it is only normal when the bike is not maintain regularly and properly..

the sad fact is that it is made worse if the material quality is not what it should be.

i have seen very bad Modeanas....:(

so am i able to polish it back to shiny or its better to change a rusty fork?

once it starts rusting it will keep on rusting unless you remove all the rust then coat it over with paint or antirust to preventing it from rusting..Lol..it's a very very very tedious proccess.. suggestion

1: change new fork..fast and easy..but if no $$ there's always option 2

2: derust then spray..then laquer..nice and shiny!! makes you feel good too..but super tedious

it depends on which part of the fork, the stanchion ie the shiny one, is the 1st one to get rusty, if the rusty part does not travel pass the dust cover or the fork seal, then u can only do the derusting and painting method, but if the rusty portion does travel pass the dust cover and the fork seal, the only way u can do is to change a new fork or de-rust and anodize it, but its not cost effective....

the reason why u cant paint over the area that comes in contact with the fork seal and dust cover is, it'll strip off the paint, and it'll damage the fork seal and cover faster, resulting in a fast wear rate on the cover n seal, and also contaminants will enter thru the gap and contaminate the fork oil

Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you'll be able to see farther.

Hi. I am a new owner of a phantom for about a month and i like the way it is stable on straight roads. However it sucks in cornering especially when i got a big box and pillioning someone. So much so i miss my school bikes - megapro in BBDC. I felt cornering is slow and sluggish especially since it feel so heavy, i usually cut my speed to 10-20 kmh before i corner. In general, i felt the handling is really bad compared to school bikes.

How do you guys solve this problem?

ta200 has a longer wheel base as compared t school bike (street bike).

cause ta200 is more t a cruiser type..

wht you can do is, ride alone at night at some more deserted area t practice cornering..

body bank more whn negotiating a bend..

th best, simplest nd easiest way t ovr come this is t ride more..

as time pass you'd get th hold of handling th machine. (:

Haha, yes i would ride more.

Ok, bank body more, i get it. But i scared the foot pegs would scape the ground ler....

Also, as the handlebar so wide and my handling of bike not good, i scared to ride between cars even at traffic lights.... how ?

foot peg scraping is no big issue..

i always scrap my footpeg whn cornering too..

stock foot peg wld close up (due t th spring) nd giv way whn you scrap..

no worries on tht bro.. check out silent's foot peg, is scrapped like some waste metal alr..

perhaps you can try riding with some more experienced rider,

follow behind nd keep up with th speed..

esp whn approaching nd negotiating a bend..

most imptly is,

slow down, drop gear,

bank in more, throttle up once you'r at a comfortable angle..

personal experience t share:

normal cross juntion, cornering at 40+- kph.

filtering to a 2 lanes road, 50+- kph.

top speed for filter cornering i did was 70 only..

(all without stopping WITH proper checking of on coming traffic & blind spot befor turning.) (:

Wow!!! Your speed is impressive!!

How do you know the angle to throttle up? I always play safe and throttle when the bike like no power already when cornering. ( For school bikes, i got more confidence to corner at faster speed )

So you are saying it is ok for foot pegs to scape the ground when cornering ? I remember my BBDC instructor say if foot peg scape ground, bike would flip?

Mine below : roughly only

normal cross juntion, cornering at 20+- kph.

filtering to a 2 lanes road, 35+- kph.

top speed for filter cornering i did was 50 only..

no man, not impressive..

im trying t achieve 90 for filter lane.. lol.

but right now, aftr my mods, my tail is too underweight.. ):

a good guideline wld be, halfway through th corner whn you'r at th lowest point (banking)..

for myself, tht's whn i throttle up nd go..

be sure t be in th right gear nd not drag th gear too much.

school bike is cause those are catogarise under streetbike / roadbike.

th wheelbase is shorter, th seat&footrest is higher.. easier t corner..

its definitely ok t scrap..

thy say tht in a general term..

if you'r using a stock footpeg, NO WORRIES MAN!

unless you'r doing knee out on a TA if not you stand minimum chance of flipping whn a TA's footpeg scrap th road..

im uing a different kinda footpeg, i scrap it too. its alr rough..

alil more info,

stock TA's footpeg has a spring like thing attached t it,

this wld close up th footpeg whn it touches th floor..

you can try playing with it whn your bike is parked..

try pushing th footpeg backwards (like closing th pillion's footpeg whn not using)

you'd see th footpeg springing out back t th original position..

*picture it scraping, it'd be closed up. once its off th road, it'd automatically come back out.

so yea, no worries on footpeg scrapping on a TA man.. cheers.

Thanks bro, so which gear would you drop to when doing a normal right and left turn?

Posted

if its a left turn normally i drop t 4th gear, cornering at about 40 - 50kph..

right turn (with clear traffic) wld be 5th gear cornering 50 nd above kph..

easy way t judge your gear,

personally this is my way of judging.

0 - 20kph gear 1

20 - 30 gear 2

30 - 40 gear 3

40 - 55+- gear 4

55+- - 70 gear 5

70 & above gear 6

from here you judge your gear with your speed.

this speed & gear cordination for me is through all riding, straight / cornering.

except slope, i change gear by th feel of th power instead of judging by speed.

I got a 2B license and looking get a bike.

Cheap, easy to maintain

Mainly for transport.

Any advice?

I'm a big guy so was thinking of phantom but open to others too...

How much will it cost?

As cheap as possible is best...

THanks in advance.

Posted (edited)

The cheapest I ever saw was $300 for a TA150 last year in garage sale  (But COE Ending this year)

Nowadays most 2nd hand TA200 are about $1200-$1400 newer ones will of course cost abit more, depending on mileage, age and condition. So quite affordable. My first bike is a Phantom TA200 too. :)

But check the mileage, no point getting a 1 year old bike with 99,999 km traveled, when I can get a 3 year old bike with only 50,000 km traveled at the same price.

When you buy a bike, you also must consider your budget for maintainence and your needs.

No point buying a sports bike like RS125 if you are doing dispatch right? No box and high maintainence.

Phantom TA200 is quite cheap to maintain.

Engine oil is 1 litre only. :)

1 Spark plug to change only.

Fuel consumption is around 35km/L (+/- 5km)

Road tax less then $100

Insurance depends on age and road experience, but definately cheaper than sports bikes.

There are some bikes in our forum going for $3000 or more. http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169038&page=31

No offense to anyone, but personally, I don't find them value for money, because for $3000, I could get one that is in a reasonable condition for $1500 or less and built up from there. With $1500 to spare, I can get an overhaul, a new paint job, new tires and new brake pads and an oil change.

But if money is no problem, the $3000 will get you a relatively new bike with no problem, but I remembered seeing you ask for as cheap as possible! :D

For the 2 stroke TA150, you got to ask the bros riding them.

Another bike type of bike you can consider is a Scrambler, like DR200, WR200, XR125, XLR200 since you are so tall dark and handsome.

agreed..some are ridiculously overpriced..

ah ha..ta150 is gooood..pretty darn fast for a 2b, engine identical to a SP but sadly fuel consumption just as bad as a SP..

as a big guy..you need something big and A power packed bike..

if u get a small bike...you will end up looking like a clown on a bicycle,,

a low horse power bike ...u will definitely BE frustrated..

a scrambler is a good choice but expensive...so is x9 scooter.

a cheap one..i would prefer to use low price..ta 150 is agood choice

good power..(remember 2 stroker power..150cc= 300 cc in 4 stroker theorectically)..hence the fuel consumption at around 22km/L +-5L.

for older bikes 2 stroker is the choice maintenance wise..less complicated engines=less breakdowns ,less parts maintenance and in the long run less $$$..but u spend more on fuel..

There are many choices..ta150 is the one to go..for a low price and relatively high powered machine..

aNY WAY..2 stroker will be slowly be a thing of the past...grab one now before it becomes extinct.

those who have not ridden on a ta 150..should try its ability...(i am not surprised)

they will be surprised that the bike behave like a wild bronco compared to its pony ride cousin..

IMHO.:cheeky:

Wish to ask that my phantom at 80kmh engine sound is still ok. At 90kmh starts to get louder and at 110kmh the engine like screaming already. Is this normal?

sounds normal...

Its norm for phantom to scream at 110km, ideally for a TA200 Phantom cruising speed is about 80-100 so anything above that is Screaming Time lolz

Haha!! I wish phantom can have a little more power. Would like the engine to maintain normal sound at 90kmh. 80kmh feel like a little slow on expressways.

change ur sprocket to 13T 39T

Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you'll be able to see farther.
