Yo seniors, just got my IU replaced this morning as it was faulty. Do I need to update the new IU unit number in any government system, e.g. One Motoring, etc...?

no need... provided that you gotten a new IU from an authorised IU dealer... so where did you get yours replaced...?

Thanks bro, it's from Vicom & it's FOC. But I went into One Motoring and saw from my info page that it still bares the old IU # leh.

yo~ got another question here.

So how do we clean the bike parts huh?

I went to clean today, but got a few parts couldnt get the stain/dirt/rust off.

It's the fork, exhaust and the highway bar and the gear box thingy xD

(picture below)

http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/827/bikejf.jpg

(Second circle from the left) This part, for mine, there's some patches of it shiny and some patches matt. Is it supposed to be a plastic chrome or something?

I've seen others being matt, so does that mean that for mine, the paint is coming off?

As for the exhaust, there's this part where the frame is holding the exhaust near the suspension. Mine is rusty inside. how do I remove the rust there?

Highway bar also rusty.

I'm using turtle wax and turtle chrome polish.

Do I need oil to melt the rust? (or if that's the procedure to remove rust? )

Thanks so much ^^ ..

it won't be easy... but you can use autosol to derust the rusty parts... if the rust is very bad you probably need to use sandpaper as well...

as for the crankcase cover, you can use a toothbrush and some chrome polish and brush it all day long...

remember, this isn't an easy task

thanks for the reply ^^

So for the crankcase box (and proabably the fork), we just use the chrome polish and scrub right? need to like wait for it to haze, clean and reapply again and again? or just scrub all the way till satisfactory then clean off?

What kind of sandpaper do we use? Wouldnt it scratch the chrome?

thanks, sorry for the nooblet questions o_O

please don't sandpaper the chrome... sandpaper is only for serious rust...

yea just brush them until there is some improvement...

as for the lower part of the fork, you might even want to remove them and spray them black :cheeky:

Hi guys. Wish to ask you opinion on how to solve my problem:

I have having some storage problem. I have one 42 L top box which is just enough for my jacket , rain gear and my FF. My wife open helmet would have a problem - nowhere to put.

Hence i am thinking of getting side panniers as well.

Q1) Would the side panniers be able to store my jacket or my wife open face helmet ? What can fit into the side panniers?

Q2) Would installing the side panniers cause me to have problem lane-splitting?

Q3) Would installing the side panniers cause my wife to have much problem to dismount or mount the bike? ( My wife is only 1.48m )

Q4) Should i just get a scooter instead so i can put 1 helmet under the seat and one in the box ?

Hmmm , the open face helmet can just use a lock and secure to the metal parts of the bike like mirrors, IU etc? Cheapest way to solve the problem lol.

I am using Givi 21L sideboxes. Right side for armoured jacket/insurance notes etc, left side for rain gear + slippers and bike cover. Rear box 32L for FF helmet and bag. No problems with weaving through traffic.

To avoid having pillion mounting problems , just shift your signal lights to license plate and you can move the sideboxes back easily. Refer to post #86.

u could actually just hang open face helmets on the left side of ur phantom, there is this lock for helmet.

wad kind of side panniers are u referring to? u will need a pretty big one to fit a helmet.

the width of ur rear after installing this side panniers will be about the length of ur handle bar depending on which side box u get

I am thinking that a normal side pannier would not be able to fit a whole helmet even if its open face so asking around here.

My wife is afraid it would be stolen if its lock on the outside. Someone can just cut the strip. Her helmet is not expensive but she take very good care of it so I dun think she would agree to locking her helmet on the outside. As for mine, my is FF so out of qn that I would lock it outside for fear of losing it.

So what is the total cost for installing 2 Givi 21L sideboxes and changing location of the signal lights ?

does anybody know how to change brake pads?

well... just unlock the bolts holding the calipers...

slide the calipers off

remove the old brake pads

compress the brake pot if necessary

put in the new brake pads

slide the caliper back onto the brake rotor disc

tighten the bolts holding the calipers

pump the brake pumps until the brakes are ready to be used

you are good to go, but please note that the biting power of brand new pads are very weak and need running in... so please ride mildly...

im not sure about bikes, but i used to be a car mechanic and when we change new brake pads, we scrape the surface of the new pads on the floor a few round to make it rougher abit before placing it in. i dun understand the logics but its the way taught.(monkey told monkey do)

Bro, the petrol kiosk sells tins for petrol for cases like this! So no need to look for bottle lah! But my advise is to buy a funnel together with the tin just in case! My car previously ran out of petrol on the way to the kiosk and I dun have a funnel! Most of the petrol wasted and only manage to get like 30-40%into my tank. Cheers!
