Hi all,

has anyone here tried changing the sprockets to give a higher top speed?

I was thinking either 1 less tooth at the rear or 1 more at the front?

If you have, what as the acceleration from a stationary start and also out of corners like?

Cheers,

Rich

Hey Rich, I've got mine change, 1 less tooth from the rear. It gives a better top speed at top end. but pick up is bad. previously my stock sprocket could only clock me 134km/h but now i could clock 150km/h on TA200 meter on expressway.

Bros and sis out there... my phantom though after a proper warm up with choke on, still dies off at traffic junction....today while i was riding back...on AYE, i had to kick first gear as it was a bad jam....and guess what...my engine died....while rolling i pushed the start button but it wont start...but eventually it did and i went off...why does this frequent dieing of engine occurs? anyone?

Posted

chances are, low idling.

you pulled the choke to increase idling just to get it started & running.

turn off the choke & it goes tup tup - - - tup tup - - - tup tup -*dies* insteads of tup tup tup tup tup tup tup tup tup.

if this occurs, the problem lies with your idling. turn it up perhaps a quarter round or slightly more, it shd be just fine.

while rolling, start button dont work.

some bikes can only be started (electric start) whn its in neutral, clutching in in gear doesnt help too.

that could be the reason why it didin fire up.

frequent dying of engine is either, low idling / close throttle too fast at high speed.

thanks for the fast reply bro... but i am able to start while rolling when clutched in with first gear engaged...even when stationary...i increased the idling, but its no more..tup tup tup tup tup...its..like....faster...and when i ride...the engine brake dosnt kick in fast....when i change gear...the idling is still very high...where else its supposed to be so called....not so reving...

mm, perhaps feeling, hearing the bike in person would be a wiser decision. mmh..

in the mean time, you might want to just turn up th idling. as to keep it running. =\

i see u stay at jurong also.... well, gonna get it checked with my mechanic tmr.... well, i'll try the idle solution...but i hope its nth to do with the firing ...i am not so good at bike, all the way cars... so gotta learn the parts...anw...engine is as smooth as ever, but every morning its freaking grumpy....and its so freaking rough....

jyea, beside jurong point.

check it out wit yer mech or perhaps we can meet up in e evening or smthg. (:

Guys, if i am leaving bike in HDB open air carpark for 4 days, but got bike cover, is it necessary to empty the oil tank or better to fill it up to the brim before i leave sg?

cause read before that near empty fuel tank can cause the water vapour inside to evaporate and deposit at the top of tank and rust there...but dunno 4 days will kanna like that anot...

sandpaper.

start with the finer grade. and rub gently. it worked on my rusty exhaust, wah, after sanding bloody different. so much cleaner.

4 days is not a problem. I have left bikes laying around for weeks before. No problems, still startable, even. Singapore climate is not that harsh.

Now, 4 months is a different issue. That one, follow "winterization" procedure from American websites.

Used 38 tooth rear sprocket since last July and liking it. TA200 stock sprockets and close ratio gearbox has too high RPM on the highway to my liking. As for mine I had no loss of acceleration due to kopitiam engineering. Sound is also more fun at low rev all the way :3

so Pandora,

if i want more torque, i should increase teeth or decrease teeth? i also find that highway too high rpm.

and what about front sprocket?

Four days not a problem. Warming up of bike also not necessary.

He didn't change his front spocket. Just the rear, its nice. His 5th gear can go up to 90 without harsh vibrations. Love it. =) His pick up is not badly sacrificed too. As for torque, to increase it, i believe u've to increase the amount of teeth at the rear, but its not worth it. Good pick up but no speed.

Hi kitten, long time no see. =) Btw, i've just overhauled my engine, running in at the moment. Power of my engine is bad. =( unlike last time.

As for the fuel tank question, i believe its better to fill it up. I've seen the internals of the fuel tank rusting, very ugly.

*I don't entertain bullsh*t
