hiya folks. after waiting for so many weeks, my gear has finally arrived. sometime ago, i was looking around for the right jacket, pants and gloves. eventually, i decided to go with the motoport/cycleport stuff. i ordered the air mesh kevlar jacket, air mesh kevlar pants, kevlar racing gloves.

i ordered them via the phone with Wayne (who runs the business). he took me through all my measurements. i ordered some of the options as well. i am so excited now that the gear is here.

so here are some pictures. first off...the jacket. i ordered the air mesh kevlar jacket in black/black. i originally wanted to have black/yellow because i wanted to have the visibility to motorists from the back. but it would be a real bugger to match everything else to it. so i decided to go for black/black and just have that hi-viz strip do the work from behind. the first colour is the main one of the jacket and it is mesh kevlar. the second colour is for the connection points and its stretch kevlar.

the view from the front. i ordered the waist cut jacket which should be worn zipped to the pants. there are four big pockets in front, big sturdy YKK zip, velcro to hold it in place up at the neck. 2 velcro straps at the waist, 2 on each sleeve. you can also order a 3/4 cut jacket which can be worn without the pants because it won't ride up your torso in a crash but i didn't like the look.

i also ordered the emergency information pocket where i intend to put a card with some vital information in case of an emergency.

since i intend to travel into malaysia and beyond in the future, i also ordered a sleeve pocket (which they normally put on the right sleeve). but i ordered it on the left sleeve because we ride on the different side of the road and i only intend to put things like TaG card, some change and other small stuff there that i'll use when the bike is stationary.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590578937_w95ss-M.jpg

here you can see the jacket from the back. that is the hi-viz strip that i was talking about that runs all the way from the end of one sleeve, up to the shoulders and down to the end of the other sleeve. this picture is taken without flash.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579180_8ibsw-M.jpg

this picture is taken with the puny flash of the nokia e71 and you can immediately see the difference!

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579504_XAY7j-M.jpg

this is the inside of the jacket with the rain liner in but not zipped up yet. you can see that there is a pocket on the left breast (right side of the picture) which obscured part of the chest armour there. the rain liner has a super secure double flap enclosure with a solid full length velcro. also notice the very secure closure around the neck.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579368_tjWAT-M.jpg

here's a picture of the left breast area and you can more clearly see the pocket there that has a zippered enclosure. you can also see how the rain liner zips up to the jacket.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579273_qcx9m-M.jpg

this is the right breast area and you can see the chest armour there. there is a similar zip to attach the rain liner as well.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579908_ZuUwd-M.jpg

that's the entire back of the jacket with the rain liner lifted up. you clearly see the back protector there.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579680_Lk4Pb-M.jpg

the material is very airy. holding it up to the light you can clearly see it lets a lot of light through (and air too).

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590579799_oe43S-M.jpg

i can even take a picture through it!

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580170_aBNAG-M.jpg

i ordered the air mesh kevlar pants. it has a pocket on each side and a cargo pocket on each leg. these pants are meant to be worn OVER your normal pants. there are velcro flaps at the bottom of each leg for you to adjust the opening there.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580416_oXLP7-M.jpg

there is a snap buckle for closure up top and a softer non-abrasive flap that snaps on over the buckle so you don't scratch your tank. notice the zip on the top left of the picture? that's used to attach to the bottom of the waist-cut jacket.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580592_bV8LC-M.jpg

its quite easy to wear. the entire right leg of the pants (and the liner as seen here) can be zipped open. the left leg also has a zip that goes from the crotch all the way down to the bottom. you can also see the hip, knee and shin armour here.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580730_ikzDv-M.jpg

reflective strips down the sides provide excellent visibility as shown by using the puny flash of the e71 again. note its the flash with a puny LED in bright daylight here!

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580869_W4yje-M.jpg

after splashing for the jacket and the pants, i thought i'd go for a pair of kevlar racing gloves as well. don't really want my precious hands to get road rash right? this is a full gauntlet type of glove. when worn with the jacket, i can zip the sleeve close over the gauntlet part of the gloves.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590580995_cYWNJ-M.jpg

the palm side of the gloves has this thicker material which i think is the kevlar for resistance to abrasian.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590581133_U266V-M.jpg

and the knuckle armour looks serious enough to do a more than adequate job of protecting the digits.

so what EXACTLY did i order and how much did it all cost? well...the easiest way is to show a sample of the invoice.

http://simonnunis.smugmug.com/photos/590744324_ATEuS-M.jpg

you can obviously save quite a lot by opting to go without the rain liners and use a standard over-rain jacket/pants combo...nothing much can be done about the shipping/insurance line though. do note that you'll have to pay GST when the shipment arrives. mine came up to slightly under S$129. i paid 50% when i ordered and the rest when they shipped. waiting time was 6 weeks (i ordered 2 june, they shipped 3 july. i collected 10 july after paying GST.

as i haven't gotten my license yet, i cannot tell you how this feels when riding. but i can tell you that putting it on the very first time took quite a lot of effort. but the 2nd time was much easier and the 3rd time was a non-issue. i could not tuck the pants into my B2 boots but they fit very well over the boots. probably better this way for water protection too.

as for waterproofing capabilities, i have to say that my simple tests by pouring water over it shows that water simply slides away upon contact. the instructions that came with it says that water should not be absorbed by the outer cover. and if it does get absorbed, means its time to re-coat with fabric guard (which you can purchase from motoport directly.

thats all for now!

Apologise to TS(scubasimon).

This is a wrongly Moved post.

As it has somehow became the 1st post, I cant delete it as it'll delete the whole thread itself.

Thousand apologies.

waiting for your pics.. is your mesh jacket fully mesh? i am still keeping a lookout for a real cooling jacket (doesnt necessarily need to be armoured) i can wear daily to work..

P.S: NPNT = No Picture No Talk. lol..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

yes, its air mesh, i can actually see through it if i hold it at some angles. anyway, the light is starting to come into my place stronger. another hour would be perfect!

How's the water-proofing of the gear?

i haven't tried it out in rain or riding yet as i am still waiting for my test. but pouring water over it shows that the water just beads and slides away upon contact.

i've included the pricing information in the post now. it all depends on what options you decide to put in. see details in the post.

Looks good!

One advice I read somewhere is that you should put the suit through one cycle in a dryer. Helps to break-in the armour and makes it more comfortable for wear.

i read this too! it actually feels pretty good already since i've worn it a few times just to get used to the feeling. will wash it and see if it gets even better.

:faint: dats rather expensive imho....

but looks good :thumb:

yes, it is really quite expensive. but seriously though, i'd much rather pay this price now than pay later to doctors and hospitals if anything should happen while i ride. it must have something to do with me getting old to be thinking so much about safety first :-)

You haven't got your licence and you are splashing your cash on riding gear? U must be loaded, man!

Most of us will use that cash to pay for bike first. But i like the made-to-measure and the reflective strips:thumb:. Most of the other brands only have a bit of reflective here and there which i think is not adequate.

This is a very big mistake. Your budget should include bike, necessary part changes as well as basic safety gear (helmet, gloves, jacket, shoes). $2K for a properly outfitted safety gear is nothing compared to the grief I save myself from without them.

For custom made gear the price is actually very reasonable.
