Hi Guys! New to scramblers and would appreciate some comments on the DR200se as well as the XR200x to help me decide which bike I should go for. I ride on road mostly, but will go for trail riding once in a while, say 85% road and about 15% off road, curb mounting and trailways.

If you have experience on any of these bikes would appreciate your feedback on the below 12 points. Thanks for any feedback you can give!

1) fuel consumption and how far can it go on a full tank?

2) maintenance and known mechanical/electrical problems

3) road handling and off road handling (scale of 1 to 10)

4) Is it suitable more for road or off road? Is it a super motard?

5) starting problems in the morning?

6) dashboard display-does it show trip meters, fuel guage etc? any hazard light?

7) new machine price (not including insurance)

8) is it easy to find spare parts and are they expensive?

9) availability of parts for modding the bike

10) Top speed, cruising speed, suitability for turns and corners on road

11) What is the coolest/best feature about the bike that makes it worth getting?

12) What is the biggest complaint you have about the bike that irritates you? Any fix for that and how much will it cost? where to fix it?

xr125 is alright for starters I guess but eventually you will want more power in your machine, so I think a 200cc bike would be just nice.

Hi All,

The bike in lot 14 of the photo. ... so that's an XR?

I am thinking of getting a motocross bike but keep getting confused.

Some websites list models as 'Offroad' or 'Motocross' and some even 'Dual' and they all look the bloody same. Don't even know how to tell what's what.

if u are saying motocross, mx, u mean playing dirt tracks, doing jumps, whoops, cornering berms, clearing obstacles etc. (look at my signature pic below... tt's an motocross track) mx bikes are not road legal. e.g kawasaki kx.... honda crf..... yamaha yz.... suzuki rm... ktm sx... usually have to load it into a van and bring it to the destination.

dual - mean dual purpose, it can handle roading ride and off road but usually with dual purpose bike, it is not the best for very tough terrains.

off road leh... tt's very general i feel. i think that any bikes that is built to handle off road terrain are off road bikes but how tough is the terrain and the power needed to overcome the terrain is another issue.

e.g. xr200 and dr200... they are great bikes for road riding and off road riding. ktm 200 it is a ready to race bike though road legal, quite torquey, it not meant so much for road riding due to some reasons, one thing is high fuel consumption and need to rev it if not spark plug gets foul.

THANK YOU JUVENA!

Been looking around for a XR200 but so far nobody selling. Sigh... where do I get brand new? Boon Siew doesn't seem to list it.

I don't know much about bikes but I sure like the KTM but terrified of its kickstarter and lack of electric starter! Went to see a Derbi as well today but not too sure about 125cc although it looks cool.

hey u r welcome xxviix,

oh yeah. and not forgetting, don't expect to find speedometer, mirrors, headlights or other lights on a motocross bike... because u don't need that for riding track or what more racing. haha.

i was looking for an xr 200 too sometime last year but couldn't find any. don't think there is 1st hand ones. in the end, i got myself a ktm 200. initially regret getting it, but after getting used to the bike, i am loving its power. after i got my ktm, there were a few xr 200 for sale... lol... gotta patiently wait and search if u really want an xr200.

just tried my friend's Derbi last night, very cool bike, very light too. a bit bulky for trail but great for adventure touring.

Yeh, I don't think I'll pay much attention to anything else if I were riding on dirt, trail, off road, dual or motocross.... other than pissing in my pants not to fall!

Hmmm isn't a KTM 200 bigger than a Derbi?

Actually, I don't mind a DR200 either. But the styling is not as modern. Unless there's a kit to update its looks, I would still prefer the XR200.
