i finally bought a big can of castrol chain wax from LAB to test. Cost only $9. For about the same size can, maxima chain wax cost $20.

When i do spray test on a piece of cardboard, it dries up and become smooth like candle wax, which means it will not fling. But how well it lubricates i dunno.

So how the castrol chain wax?

So how is the castrol chain wax ??? important thing is does it Fling ???

Hey my s4 chain looks brownish bronze in colur. And has lots of sand and old thick black grease on it.. How do i get rid of the grease on the chain? Heard people say use kerosene but very uncomfortable with the chain guard over it and stuff.. Do i take out the chain guard and femove the chain and sproket myself to clean it.. or is there other ways to clean the grease on the chain?

crud. the thing is to NOT let crud have the chance to form.

i would saturate the chain with wd40 and let it set for one ciggy length, and then spray another thick layer of wd40. use a brush to brush wherever you can, and when you are done wipe off the wd40 and spray a generous amount of chain lube to drive away any leftover wd40.

i've used Mr. McKenic contact cleaner before. good stuff, but costs more than WD40 and some elbow grease.

is it possible to use thinner and soak brush in it and brush the chain? i see the bikeshops do is they use old oil and just brush it on the bike parts and blow air at it..if i do the same with thinner and wipe it off before applying chain wax will it damage the chain?

For goodness sake, YES!!! :giddy: Using thinner on your chain will damage the rubber components inside the O-rings of your chains. Please do not do that. Keroscene will also harm the chain. Washing with soap is ok. But why do you need such shiny chains for? Its the one thing on your bike that needs to be adequately dirty with lubricants and oils!

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Dat i tink onli applies to bikes movin at 20km/h :dozed: ... If chain lube keeps flingin off, might as well juz use EO/4t to lube our chain... Much more cost saving sumore :p ... Much more easier to wipe off ur rim sumore,no need to scrub all dat...

Just pop doqn to any decent bike shop and you will be able to buy a can of Chainlube. Most are suitable for X-riing or O-ring chains.

The best lube in my 15 yr experience are those that are non-foamy.

PJ chain lube has a good formula which runs throough the links well and gives good coverage.

Before application of chain lube , it is wise to remove the goo and road grime on your chain and sprocket using WD40.

WD40 is NOT to be used as a chainlube.

It evaporates quickly and totally does not fulfil any function of a chain lube.

Never use WD40 or similar type liquids as a chain lube.

I wash with kerosene, then use soapy water to rinse it. Ride the bike for 5 to 10 mins & apply Maxima Chain lube.

Not onli i follow the correct way to lube and correct amount, i even wipe the chain for any excessive lubrication. But still it fling aiyo....... the onli diffreance using non fling lube and 4t/ normal chain lube is,it fling "bit" lesser and it onli fling for few ride after application. Den it wont fling anymore untill u re-lube it...but still need to clean the rim after re-lube lol :giddy:

I think the fling part is when u apply you straightaway ride then will fling.. normally leave it over the night, the fling process won't happen.

Owh. No matter how i told u, wont believe me. Wut i mean by " spraying the correct way" of course i follow all the correct step to lube the chain including leaving the lube to dry overnight. Still it fling lerr... and it cant lie... since my sportrim is white in colour...

JUST to let you all know, buy a chain brush which looks like a tooth brush but with additional 2 sides, it nearly looks like a square but not a complete square. i will try to upload the pic next time. buy it from a bicycle shop, it is cheaper. its very useful in brushing.
