For those who have been using EO to lube their chains and find that there is a lot of fling, try using gear oil instead. EO usually comes in w40 or w50 weight for bikes, try using w90 or w140 weight gear oil. Less fling (even though still flings) and last much longer than EO.

I bought a bottle (1L) of w90 for $8.00 at autobacs bukit batok. will be trying the w140 weight after this bottle finishes.:cheeky:

Bro, have u tried maxima chain wax? Does using this eo have build up of dirt easily?

Bro,take out the chain guard, use a new paint brush dip in kerosene and brush it all around the chain, slowly you'll see all the dirt and build up grease coming off,do remember to standby lots of old newspaper to soak up the splashes. After that use paper kitchen towels or clean cloths to dry the chain, wait awhile and apply maxima chain wax. Results can be seen.

Thanks for this tip. However, I am afraid of trying this out. Scared that by doing so, the kerosene would remove or dry up the oring and not enough lubrication. I usually spray my maxima chain wax and wipe the sides of the chain with a rag. Chain not that dirty. what do u suggest?

Hi,

as the pictures belows illustrates, the correct and exact place the lube is supposed to go is onto the O-Rings itselves.

http://www.nutsaboutbikes.com/pics/garage/chain/o_rings.jpg

Crap, been wasting $$$ spraying onto the rollers all these while. :slapforehead:

The amount of lube going to the O-rings is minimal at best.

damn all these years have been spraying the rollers also. next time after washing will spray the o-rings...must check my scottoiler got position to drip @ the o-ring also:cheeky:

Have tried maxima chain wax previously, but my bike no mainstand, very troublesome.

Currently on diy chain oiler, just need to top up oil when bottle runs dry. No doubt it looks messy due to flings, but at least the chain stays clean and well lube. I can live with messy rear as long as the chain stays in good condition.

Chain wax over time tend to cause build up of wax at the front sprocket area especially when you spray too much. Since changing to gear oil, I have notice that previous build up has been slowly decreasing.

Scottoiler uses centrifugal force at the sprocket to distribute the chain oil from the sprocket to the chain, you should have no issues on that unless it was not installed properly.

Rollers need some from of lube also due to the large surface area in contact with sprocket. With scottoiler, your chain links, o-rings and rollers should all have some lube on them.

I got my big bottle of Maxima chain guard from Mustafa for $21.40. Not sure about other places but seems worth it as I am walking around and happen to saw it.

could try out penray spray. decent stuff imo, lube well doesnt fling too much, and doesnt make your chain look as if its being coated by some candle wax

guys i know this is not really the place to ask this but i hear a ticking sound coming from my chain at 8-9k rpm. is there anything that could be done? the chain i am using now has slightly bigger links than my stock chain but ive made sure that the bracket holding the front sprocket does not touch the chain by filing it down. anyone can help me with this problem?
