[Trip Report] Cambodia Trip : 11 to 22 Jun 2009

Reach the intersection by 10pm, 1300m above sea level temperature 20 deg C. No petrol outlets and shops were opened except a chinese operated shop. Went thu his shops items to locate a pant to replace the torn without any success. The local were all small build people waist line does not exceed 32. It seems that the Kuming tourist regular visit these places in Laos. Phou Khoun is another 1000km away from Kuming only!

Tempted to stop at this town, good thing little fcuk fuel can last another 150km more , (it was 150km away when we last top up) decided to proceed in darkness.

Went thru another several thousand of twistie in darkness. Meet 2 black cobra along the way. One of them Hissed at us. 2 more cows slept on the road.

Speed Limit is 30kmh Potholes and gavels all over the turns....very scary....

Cold (highlands), we pee along the way. When we off the bike light; using only mini torchlight, we could see fireflies....They were beautiful.

Night travel. Truck were very cautious...if not they could flew off the cliff. The driver were slow that we are thankful.

Reach Phonsavan 0300hrs 18 Jun 09

Not ease to local a guest house in the midst of the night. All close up their gates. One had to beg for attention.

Managed to find a bus terminal guest house, but they are fully packed - no rooms...

we moved on further.

0900hrs move off from Guest House.

Entrance fee is 10,000kip per person, bike park is 2,000kip, Plain of Jars Site 1, it seem like for burial purpose. The land mines were not totally removed yet. Tourist are to execrise caution. Colour flag indicated the mines removed. RED Flag meant not clear yet. Before the place was turn into a tourist spot, extensive effort was put in to remove them. This place stands on a very cooling plain and the view is really worth the effort of coming. The gift shop outside only sold local product. U could not find any commerical product of Laos or Plain of Jars here.

The rest of the ride was not so fun, as we enter into the night- visibility dropped. Mainly followed behind some pick up till the driver turn to destination. The pick up helped to warn in coming vehicle. If not town vehicles rushed like nobody business. The local kids wo helmet and experiences would ride too. All vehicles had not habit to check mirrors and road before entering into the main road. Road Users are surprising very understanding.

 

There was a group of easily 15 kap night out with their friends. They never check and zoom into our path....After overtaking these kids, there was an accident involved kid kap and a 4WD.

 

When we reach the Guest House, it was already late 10pm. Check in our mud clothing for washing 10,000 kip per kg.

Noted, Laos petrol kiosk closed 2030hrs local time. Gate lock too. If still on the road, may considered rest at the petrol kiosk.

Chill out in the evening and packing up our stuffs for returning trip.

Due to the rain, our clothes cannot be dry in time. Got to wait till morning.

The air con and hot water shower really make a great different. The weather get either cool or very hot in Vientiane.

Day 9 20 Jun 09 Vientiane-Nong Khai-Bangkok

Near noon then we set off since our train fro Nong Khai to Bangkok is the evening train. We bid goodbye to the host (who is also an artist w gallery)
