I personally used them a lot.. Especially Search Engines..

With yahoo, google searches in my search with bike related issues, most results came back positive with SBF on the results..

Easy searches like "where to do powdercoating", "how does a sparkplug works", "how to do a specific mod to a bike" can be easily googled or yahooed..

so why are we seeing so many ppl opening up new threads??

Are the internet in this era provided us with all the answers we needed??

I think it does..

what's your say?

I think I OT, so i better forget it.

Are we sticking to bike related, or is it whether if the internet is providing us all the answers we should need?

Well, becos the SBF search engine is not really that good.

For example, u try to search for something, the search result will give u the thread instead of the post.

So, if the thread is like 1000 pages, then good luck...

For old birds, we have seen alot of threads, so if we see a similar one, we would know.

But for new birds, they will not know.

Of course, we should at least do a search before opening a new thread, especially if the thread is a common question.

I use the SBF search function but it's damn lousy.

LIke what Construction said above, you get results as threads. And some threads are like 10-20 pages long. Usually I have to search for posts instead.

Before I ask a question, I would do a search for an answer first. Of course, not knowing what exactly to ask, I may have searched the forum in a wrong way. So I may still end up asking very common questions.

I use Google to search SBF, much better than the forum search function. Just append site:singaporebikes.com to the end of your query, e.g. "official parking guide site:singaporebikes.com"

I do use the search engine when I feel that there is another thread of the same nature to the thread that is newly opened. Purpose is to merge the threads. However, you have to be very specific with the title thread. Otherwise, it will open up a lot of unrelated threads as well...:sian:

use the SBF search engine

search by THREAD, not POST!!

you will get more positive answers.

what i feel that needs improvement.

1) increase minimum search criteria. type in "R1" in the garage sales section and u will not succeed.

how to buy r1? yammie owners will get less potential buyers

what i don't understand is some older members starting new threads in irrelevant sections asking noob questions and expecting to be spoonfed.

for eg. user name: ah_beng

riding: x-bike

ah_beng starts a new thread in any other Section other than the relevant section xxxxx bikes (where the x-bike thread is) and it goes like this:

Hi, i want to ask where to buy x-bike which shop is cheap and good with lowest downpayment and i like to know where i can find gurantor and sub rider. which insurance is cheapest and where i can find the shop with cheapest parts in singapore? can call or p.m me.

anything wrong with this thread? well not really, it's just in the wrong section right? WRONG. i run a search on this user's previous posts and he has been talking c0ck in the x-bike thread for years but did not ask this question inside, wtf ?!

i close his thread and tells him to use the search function; continue all discussion within the x-bike thread and 2 days later, i get a new thread that goes like this:

ah_beng: hi i am going to bike shop to by my x-bike later, can anyone tell me what to look for when buying this bike? can call me at 912345678.

i close this thread and give him the same reply, a few days later i get another new thread that says:

ah_beng: my bike got some funny noise from the side, what sound is it?

someone asks him what bike is he riding and he replies: x-bike

i don't understand, is this forum THAT difficult to navigate/ search? i expect some people who like to be spoonfed but asking people to call them and provide them with answers? starting new threads again and again when they could ask in their x-bike thread where they have been happily chatting in? what's with that?

i do remember posting the address/phone number of a certain shop quite a few times, in IT'S OWN THREAD... no less

and wondering if the search function is disabled at the enquirer end, probably somewhere between the chair and the computer perhaps...
