Good evening to all fellow biker bros. I'd just like to ask what you guys think of taking a break from riding for a while. Just to share with you guys. I have been riding for 3 years now. Currently in NS. I recently met with an accident that left me with a fractured wrist. I was not able to repair my bike so I sold her away with a heavy heart. But now I'm still recovering from the fracture, I feel 'uncomfortable' using public transport. Really very sian to take bus every time.

My initial plan was to save up for a brand new middle class bike and purchase it at next year end. But now my current bike is gone to another owner, I'm bike-less. :cheeky: Another bro's have experienced similar feelings?

Were you riding a bigger bike after your accident?

well, been riding and driving since 2000 until 2005 when i met with an accident which pretty much leaving my left leg in a pretty mess, multiple fractures and suffered from PTS (Post Traumatic Stress) after 4 years later, finally I gotten myself another bigger bike and started riding again. I can live with public for the 4 years I'm car less and bike less, but the thought of riding thru wind is too tempting for me....

Wow. Yup. Riding a bike is incomparable to a four wheel. Thinking of taking public transport for a year already is killing me. Even worst is when friends start to upgrade bikes.

I was going to scrap my bike, because I felt that it's not worth it to repair my bike which is going to cost about 300 to 400. And to make it worst, I have to renew road tax and insurance which is another 500. I have to spend $900 on a rxz which has less than 1 and a half years of COE left.

In the end the scrap yard guy bought over my bike.

Agh,don't stress, let your wounds heel and prepare a comeback,be better than ever ;)

I'm a newbie on motorcycles, love was there but finances delayed it,so I'm I have yet to fall and break something (: ( ) on my RS125...however through my boyish days I have broken a lot of bones.Mostly from ridding my bicycle...so I'm just gonna say.

Get a milk habit,my collar bone was back to 100% in 2 and a half weeks, and the estimated time was 4 weeks, all because of me guzzling down milk for calcium!

No point in stressing yourself since you'll just bring yourself more harm than good.

I know you feels like screaming and shouting because you want to ride, but have no bike...but don't worry the bike will be there fast enough, and you'll just be richer for one more of life's teachings :)

All the luck in the world to you in your quest to buy another ride ;)

Thank you for the kind words. Drinking milk really helped to heal your collar bones so fast? :thumb:

I have been riding for 6 years, most recently a Harley Davidson. In September this year, I decided to take an indefinite break from riding. 2 reasons for my decision:

1) I had other financial goals to pursue & the bike expenses could be sacrificed.

2) For the family's peace of mind. Nobody ever objected to my riding, but they were not particularly supportive as well.

It has been 3 months, & oddly enough, I have not missed riding as much as I thought I would.

The difference I guess, is that I have lived my dream & now I have other aspirations.

Do I still have the passion for riding? Somewhat, but it has mellowed. Guess I'm getting old.

Would I buy another bike? Possibly. When I do, it'll probably be on a whim, so I'm avoiding any visits to any bike shops. I don't want to make another hasty decision on a bike.

I can only hope my next business trip to US will be in the summer, so that I can rent a RoadKing for the weekend & truly experience of a road trip in the Land of the Free.

I guess the passion burns ragingly when you dun have the bike, and are yearning for one. But after you got it, then the passion sometimes just die slowly. Lol.

Once a biker, always a biker.

Recover from your injury and be back on bike after you are financially and mentally ready.

Have a speedy recovery. In the mean time, browse thru those mei meis when you are taking public transport. Cheers!

I've got to agree with that, haha. It's a very apt description and I'm experiencing it. lol

I'm in a somewhat similar predicament.

I got into 2 accidents recently, in a span of 12 hours! Juz b4 CNY some more, some lousy omen for the new yr, huh? Anyway I sprained both my kneecaps and left foot, and got a host of cuts n scraps on my arms, legs, chest, etc. I even ground a tooth against the road, lol.. had to spit tarmac out after the accident.

The bike is not totally chui - sustained medium damage but I decided to scrap it coz it's an old bike le, and as if by fate e bike's COE is coming up as well. Parents super against me riding now also, lol. The decision to take a break from riding is not an easy one to make, but well, considering the pros and cons of continued biking.. financial, safety, wrath of parents, etc, I tink its better not to ride for awhile first.

I think I will return to the roads again in future. But right now my riding life is over, and my cycling life begins anew! Look on the bright side, no more road tax, inspections, season parking, maintenance, parking fines, accidents, someone knock your mirror off and run away, bike wun start up in some ulu ulu place, and countless other trials and tribulations that only comes with owning a bike.

N ya, I totally agree, taking public is super xianz! Esp after the unparalleled freedom of personal transport. Stupid Easi-link cards.. gotta top up again..
