sidetrack a bit from the high performance tires, i'm using a 180\55 rear tire on my R6 now, brand is Shinko, recommended by my mechanic, actually feels rather good to me (i dun really play corners) about the same as my previous M1, wonder if u guys tried it as well. done at most 4k on it only, will update again how long it can last. it cost me 210 but i'm sure can get a better deal elsewhere cuz my mechanic always get lousy prices on tires. :cheeky: :cheeky:

A little info I found on tires from another forum..

Q: Hot street tires have less grip than hot race slicks. Cold street tires have more grip than cold race slicks. All the flavors of sport tires are somewhere in between. What I was wondering is this... is it an even compromise, or are there particular compounds which are a sweet spot, only sacrificing a little for hot grip or cold grip comparatively? As I see it, there are certain classes of tires:

1. Full on touring/street compound. Great for cold and wet, not much grippier in the heat. Very long-lasting.

2. Generic sport tires for street. (BT-010, Dunlop 207.) Pretty good in cold and wet, pretty grippy in hot and cold. Less mileage than #1.

3. More aggressive sport tires. Less good in cold and wet, but a little grippier in the heat. Slightly less mileage then #2.

4. Even more aggressive sport tires. (same as #3 but even more that way)

5. DOT track tires. (somewhere between #5 and #6)

6. Race slicks. (Only good when warmed up hot on a track, but then they're the most grip of all. Not long lasting at all.)

So I know all these types of tires are out there, and I know what you're gaining and sacrificing. I just don't know where you start sacrificing more than what you are getting back, in practical terms. Is there a sweet spot, a tire that has almost as good the benefits of #1 and #6 with the least amount of sacrifice? What particular brands and models of tires do you recommend as "sweet", if any?

Shinko uses old mold from other makes...I would the tires was good if the price were a little bit more competitive..Like one set for $260-300..(120/180)

Above this price range I would take a conti sport attack anytime...

Can any1 tell me if BT021 or Continental is betta 4 blackbird 1100xx ? Heard dat de Continental is more lasting. I m usin BT020 now cos de last time i wanted 2 change to 021 it was out of stock. BT020 does not give good grip wen i m cornering even on normal days.

Conti sport lasted about 10000km for front and 7000km for rear mixed touring and 3 track sessions for my F4i. BB would kill it in maybe 5000km if you are into spirited riding.

I would suggest 021 for SG uses....

i was using M3 for front & back. But my back finished after 20,000km. Front still got 50% to go. So i changed my back to BT21. After 25,000 km, it still got 50%. Grip wise i hv no problem in spore wet weather or in sandy, muddy tracks when i go exploration in forest trails.

If i compare it to M3 which is a dual compound tire - better grip during cornering; i dun really know coz i always go slower than others when cornering.

Hi. Tks all for your good feedback on DCIII.

Diablo Corsa III is not exactly the same as M3. M3 is a sport tyre just like Pilot Power. Diablo is the same range as Pilot Sport as M1. M3 or Pilot Sport is more of a sport road tyres.

2CT is in same range as DCIII. Road tyres which can use on the track. However both manufacturer use different technology. DCIII is using a new technology called Enhanced Patch Technology (EPT). This technology is developed from their latest range Diablo Supercorsa.

After reading through religiously, I'm still lost. I'm facing the same problem as clownzee.

I'm riding an 05/06 ZX6R 636. Tyres will have to be changed these two weeks before I hit Fraser's Hill in two weeks time. Here are my requirements.

1. This is my one and only utility bike.

2. To and fro from work. (Jurong - Macpherson)

3. I'm particular about wet weather, need grip during so.

4. Tour quite a fair bit. Once every 2-3 months. 60-70% highway, the rest includes trunk road and maybe abit of off road.

5. Track at most 2-4 times a year. There to enjoy and not pushing myself really hard.

6. Looking for the best optimum piece to suit my requirement with the minimal amount of money needed to spend on.

Any recommendation?

Hi bros

What's good place to get bt014?

With mounting and balancing? Think LAB cheap but DIY issit?

Thanks for your help, the OEM on my VFR balding already.

Hear of Michelin, Metz etc.... but guess the bt014 will suffice for normal road riding.

My current 021 has done 20000km. 4 track sessions, and I am sometimes throttle happy. Its about time for change.

I find its performance to be slightly lacking in wet weather, but for the milege offered and overall performace its value for money.

The pilot rd should offer more milege. But rd 2 is better in wet weather according to a FJR rider i know who swears whenever it rains while he was on the rd 1.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.
