Hi all. I just passed my 2b and i am a noob in bikes so do bear with me if i asked some stupid qns.

Q1) For bikes with no fuel gauge, how to know if its low on fuel? Is it an inconvenience with no fuel gauge?

Q2) I dun want my parents to know i am riding a bike and they sometimes open my letters. How to prevent them to discover i riding a bike from letters from HDB, LTA, insurance company etc?

Q3) For direct buying from seller ; for transfer of ownership, does the buyer need to come with me to LTA ?

Q4) Which bike shop is the biggest in Singapore offering the most choice if i wanna to buy new bike?

1) Pump your petrol to full tank. Reset Mileage. Ride for a few days. Top up to full tank again. Obtain your bike's full tank.

Hence,

Approximate fuel consumption == (Second top up in litres / mileage)

Approximate maximum distance you can travel == (Full tank * Approximate fuel consumption)

Example on my YBR:

Approximate fuel consumption == (Second top up in litres / mileage)

40KM/L == (6/240)

Approximate maximum distance you can travel == (Full tank * Approximate fuel consumption)

480KM == (12*40)

2) I will not tell you because firstly i am not sure and secondly, i strongly feel that you should tell your parents. :)

3) Yes, if i am not wrong the buyer must come to LTA as well to avoid any confusion. Othes, please correct me if i am wrong. :p

4) Go any shop. Seriously. Go survey. Slowly find. Bring biker friend who siao about bikes. That's what i did. Hang around riders. Talk to them. Speak their language. Smoke with them. Be them. Find out as much as your know from them. Don't listen to one person. Listen to many and draw your own conclusions.

Having said all these, good luck bro! :)

Bro, i would help you but i am afraid you might be a rapist or a robber or something.

Then again, i'm only joking. Haha.

I'll point to you to a few places.

Upper Changi Road --> My usual haunt.

UBI/Eunos --> Loads of bike shops there. Loads.

Jalan Besar area there --> I've never been there before because got ERP. Ah Boy there, along that side got alot.

For me i went to the first 2 because near my house. If you tell us where you live, perhaps other bikes in SBF can point you in the right direction. :)

Oh yeah, and congrats on passing your 2B!

Haha!! Crazy DJ, you very helpful. I staying in Jurong ler. Which shop would you recommend?

Wah paing! So far! For bike shops in the west, i really wouldnt know. I heard there are quite a few but i'm not too sure about their credibility.

Let me give you my scenario.

19yrs. Insurance $971. 3rd party

Bike machine price. 1.8k, 7 years of COE left.

If you are below 21, its gonna be really expensive.

I made some research and know there are HME, AS Phoon and CKA motordiams at Toh Guan there. How are their bike prices and if their servicing is good?

Also, is it worth the extra money to buy from them instead of direct buying for a piece of mind ( I suppose they give at least 3 mths warrantly ? )

1) just need to monitor how much you have travelled.. normally there's a reserve switch for you.. so when you switch to that you need you have to pump petrol in. i think newer bikes all have fuel gauges.

2) wouldnt encourage this a single bit. so i wouldnt suggest a solution.

3) yes, both buyer and seller need to be present.

4) just to name a few, you can go as phoon, mah, loois to look at new bikes.

my 2 cents worth.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

hi darkhorse, i strongly recommend you to head down yourself to the shops and ask for quotations instead. warranty only applies to agent bikes which means that certain problems with a new bike can be rectified free/ for a small fee at the authorised distributor such as Hong Leong Yamaha or Boon Siew Honda. warranties offered by bike shops for parallel import or used bikes are through a verbal agreement that can be denied should problems do arise although some shops do honour their word to a certain extent.
