it might be the food that you are feeding them... some food does minimise the smell of their pee...

i only change the sand when it's dirty or when it smells...

Hmm...I'm not sure whether there will be any diff if u feed different kind of food to ur hamster. But I tink the beddin u apply for ur hamster thats important. If the bedding is enuff, and is absorbent enuff to absorb the waste fr ur hamsters, then I tink the smell wont be that great ba...

but i been thinking, even if the beddding absorb the waste, it's still in the bedding rite? Would it be still smelly then? Unless the bedding got some form of waste purifying function...

But would still try anyways, will update on the outcome... :bounce:

yup.. it's stated on the packaging.. i usually buy marukan mix food (orange packaging) for my hamsters... there's this symbol thingy on the right hand corner of packaging that indicates reduces odour.. if i feed them the cheap food, they do stink... :cheeky: can get it cheaper at a petshop near bedok 85...

Hmm..actually,fr my observations, the faeces isnt wat that stinks.I tink its the urine that stinks. I hav a frend who practiced this when she were stil rearing hamster. If u all notice, normally ur hamster will only urinate at a certain corner of their cage/container.And my frend will change that small amount of sawdust everyday..she said it worked.

I didnt try,cox I laxy abit, and I dun really mind that little smell that comes out of the cage...

Mayb u all could try and c the outcome...

Hi peepz,

I have got some queries... Hoping someone here can help answer them...

I have a hammy just given birth to 2 males and 2 females not too long ago. Now I put daddy and 2 males babies in a cage and mummy with the 2 female babies in another. After 2 weeks or so, mummy start bullying the female babies. Both female babies dont seemed to be able to grow big. They are still tiny and thin. The male babies, on the other hand, are growing tremendously fast. Now the male babies are about the same size as daddy. I suspect mummy had been bullying the babies lately and kept babies from eating the food in the bowl which they shared. Sometimes, I see the wounds on the babies, it makes me feel heart pain. Sometimes, feel like crying when I see the blood oozing from the wound... Dont know what I can do to help the babies ease the pain.

I understand that if they lived together for a long period of time or since young, they wont be fighting frequently. How come my hammy mummy who went through the stage of giving birth, feeding them and up to now, staying together with the babies, can bite and scare her own babies? Is there any thing or any way which I can do to prevent such thing to happen? Separation is quite impossible as I already have 6 cages/containers stacking on top of one another. Dont think I can get another cage and stacked it even higher.

Thanks for reading my message and providing advice to me...

loranto: ur hamhams are SO CUTE!!! its really a pity to put up for adoption..im sure u dun bear to leave them at all.. Would really luv to adopt them if possible..gotta talk to my sis first..

hamster_babies: suntec is selling this spray medicine thing that is really good for wounds which the shop also use..we use it for my hamham eyes.. but its quite costly $38.

I also heard there is this powder thing that can prevent hamham from biting each other.. hope this helps..
