Hi to all,

 

I just collected my ST1100Y.

 

Morning i ride my bike, when i move the bike off there is a metal rubbing metal sound.

The bike Temp is also high as near to the RED zone...

My bike shop told me it normal. But i dont believe them..

Can anyone advise...

Can I know where can i go for good ST1100 bike shop to check?

Hi...

 

1) Where is the metal rubbing sound coming from? From the front wheel?

 

2) The temp shouldnt be so high.It should be somewhere constant in the middle. Could be your EO/ coolant or jammed thermostat not functioning. For coolant if you have enough cash to spare change all the hoses and coolant cap too at one go.

There are some post in this thread regarding overheating and thermostat. Try do a search on it.

must wait 4 simon to reply u liao. too technical for my knowledge. but general rule is still the same, try to ask a few more shops for opinions & costs. main thing is to really confirm the prob. some shops might be able to solve ur prob without high cost, some shops might be able to get parts easily. if cant find the perfect shop then mix n match.

- can try findin out 2nd hand parts from the mech @ amk autopoint(i'm not his supporter but its true he got loads of spare parts). but he 4ever busy so if u can afford to wait its ok. if not then get him to source 2nd hand parts n go other place u feel comfortable to fix.

- if price compared to brand new isnt too big diff then get brand new instead. peace of mind for many yrs. opposite regina got quite a few shops sellin original honda parts.

- dun always depend on same shop/mech. sooner or later might become a permanent carrot unknowingly.

 

st1100 isnt a problematic bike. buy 2nd hand already then do it once n nice should be a fantastic ride for a long time

 

 

 

stop idlin at home... time to go malacca/kl/genting for some touch n go trips to "exercise" urself n bike.

 

Hi. Agree with botakmonk. Check with few shops first. Popular shop doesnt mean good. Change the parts once new and the ST1100 should last you for a longer time.

Bro,

 

Check the brake pads or it could be warp brake disc. Better make sure.

 

Also, the temp meter should be around the middle. Unless you are caught in a jam, then will be near red / in the red. Check items in cbkooky reply. Also, please check whether your radiator fan is activating when the temperature is high. If not, check the temperature sensor or do a by pass switch.

1st thing. dun ever go back to the crappy shop again.

 

since its 2nd hand, might as well for the peace of mind go do a servicing 1st. dun trust the shop if they say everything done 4 u. change oil, plugs, oil filter, air filter, coolant flush, fuel cork check, side stand sensor check etc. pain in pocket once is better than everytime headache about wat is the prob here n there.

 

otherwise, ownself dismantle n check thru radiator cap if its filled up. if coolant lvl isnt above the temp sensor then fan will nvr on. temp sensor is the little wired thingy in front of ur left knee on the radiator. if coolant not enough or temp sensor spoil then easy n cheap solution. if not then might be wat the others said, choked pipes or worst case faulty coolant pump.

 

if top up coolant to full liao still will leak a lot then might be gasket prob too. small part but expensive workmanship liao. a lot of possibilities so better to start with the cheaper scenarios 1st. best is still pain once in the pocket n smile for a long time.

 

Thermostat should cost around $35 range. Part no 13.

honda parts can find or order from jalan besar area. got everfit, eversuccess, fjt, boon siew not too far as well. normally i buy from the desker road shop. if u dunno part name/no. doesnt matter cos they got the whole manual with every single parts for u to flip thru. from the brand new prices u decide what would the 2nd hand prices be like loh cos 2nd hand prices varies a lot btwn shops.

 

i got honda service manual . if anybody needs then pm to arrange.

The metal rubbing sound is not the brake side I check... It from the Gear side... Only when i move off from stop. and only 1st gear.. But when Slow move off the sound is not there...

 

For coolant I have change to good coolant. But still not low at all..

Did a flush. still the same. I think might be the themostate. or i might do a bypass switch for the fan.. Foe the hoses. I am thinking also to change. Any one Know how much to change all the water hose?

 

Can i ask another Q. From the clutch is it fat away?

They told me is using clutch pump that why is far away.. I dont believe them. Any way to make it nearer?

 

The bike shop??? best is not to say the name... All i can say is that is in Eunos and the name of the shop after i check is not very good. Paya laber turn in go straight and you will see a lot of bike park there. They will be moving to 51 Paya Ubi. Saleman who serve me and it the worst saleman i ever meet. Promise you heaven but cannot deliver.

 

For the bike I ask them to spray white.. Ok with the paint job.

Give me a givi box and ask them to spary white I top up some money.

Ask for steel brake hose and ask me to pay for them too

Ask for BT020 front and back new as the old ones cannot use liao. Tell me will change.. then later call me tell me very XXX and ask me to top up again.

Ask for grounding also ask me to pay.

Even I got to make my own Number Plate.. Worst is that NEVER ASK ME WHERE I WANT TO PASTE THE FRONT NUMBER PLATE THEN JUST ANYHOW PASTE. TO THE VISOR. WHICH I WANNA CHANGE. wASTE MY MONEY AGAIN.

I got to go to the shop every now and then to check the bike. The Mechanic is ok and nice to help me. He work till very late to make sure I can collect my bike on time this time. But the saleman say that he ask the guy to work late so as i can collect the bike.. BU YAO LIAN... Now he know i dont want to talk to him and dare to ask me why am i angry with him...

Told them I want to collect the bike on the 02June then he say he took over the case from another saleman and was not known to it.

You ever heard of you sign the deal in Late april and told them you wan to collect in early june. By Early june they can tell you bike not ready. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???

 

On the 10June collect bike. then on the 08June then come tell you that you need a Gurantor and tell you to find before they can relseas the bike... WTF the contract date was like in April and they got the whole may to tell you and NEVER... What kind of SALEMAN.

 

On the day of my collection of bike. Another older 'saleman' told me he will give me a cover. I thank him for that. Also i forgot my helmet when i took a cab down to collect the bike... He give me a helmet too...

 

Ask for more discount and can tell you very low price liao... If ever i got friend who looking for Bike I will Never tell them to go there. I will also tell them what i been through.

I DIY most of the time.

 

the metal rubbing sound comes out from which side..?

 

as how u describe I think should be; 1) lack of coolant, 2) jammed thermostat valve & 3) radiator cap lost of bar pressure(causing coolant overflow).

 

as per;

1) check reservoir container for coolant to be at its correct 'H' level, & open radiator cap to check for coolant, top up when needed. IF radiator dont have sufficient coolant then very high chance is the radiator cap faulty, u need to replace a new one, it should solve the plm by not overflowing coolant to reservoir container leaving a gap-lack of coolant inside radiator.

 

2) IF everything of the above (1) is presented & still over heat, u will need to replace a new thermostat valve(installed inside a unit housing under the radiator cap). alternatively u chance choose to remove it, but if u r a frequently NSHW user I suggest u have it on to prevent improper operating temperature engine wear over a long run.

 

3) as per above (1) just replace it.

 

of course, to obtain a bettter result its better to properly drain out old coolant & use coolant flush to cleanse the enitre system, to better ensure the cooling system is to check the hoses for any deterioration & replace them accordingly to last u for at least another few years.
