Hi All

pardon for asking stupid question, but i'm in the search of looking to buy new bikes, but i'm in a delimma in choosing between Phantom and CBF150. I know these are bikes of completely 2 different category, but my original plan of getting a phantom was shaken on 2 factor the shop told me :

1. Phantom is going to stop prouction

2. CBF150 is much cheaper and it fuel consumption is low

I am still very interested in Phantom but i'm really considering CBF 150

any advice anyone?

thank you

my advise is get a 2nd hand phantom and ride it for a while..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

buying a new phantom or a cbf150... neither is a sound choice for non-dispatch riders...

it is only advisable to buy a new bike if you intend to keep it for some time... so that its value can break even with its cost... so you are probably better off looking at 2nd hand ones...

2nd hand phantoms are fairly easy to find, be it 150cc two stroke or 200cc four stroke phantoms. cbf150 is a more recent bike... so 2nd hand ones might not be as common... however, cbf150 is favoured by dispatch riders, so do check its mileage... it might be only one year old but its odometer might have gone one round... (reset to 00000)

Personally both bike are gd n easy to maintain. But if u looking at upgrading in 1-2 yrs time, as a ex phantom owner i believe a 2nd hand Phantom TA200 will b resonable to have  2ndly a TA200 FC is low too cause it can easy hit 34-40km/L but den it still depend on the rider/owner way of riding :cheeky: (Pls do not flame mi if im wrong) Last but not least i would advise u go to the motorshop n try sitting on both bikes so that u will know which bike suit u most cause end of the day its u who going to ride daily. Gd luck to ur hunt :thumb:

hI all

thank you all for your valuable feedback. Currently I am riding a phantom but m COE is up so I am thinking of changing one. Initially i wanted to get a TA200(phantom) coz i like cruiser but it seems like most shop i ask is not really favourable with phantom, they will likely to recommend other bike, one even tell me phantom is going to be out of production.

CBF 150 was offered to me (new) at a very attractive price (almost 2k lesser than a new phantom, with free gift like box and helmet) which I am quite attracted to it, thats why i am in a delimma on which one to choose.

i was thinking of buying cbf150 at first but the bike shop recommend me another bike... although made in china, it seems it's not that bad, if not y so many on the road?

Hi Step

so you're riding a CBF 150 now? ok or not? I mean compare to TA200, it has a fuel gage and a gear indicator, but only 5 gear...

Hey hi... Firstly, as I've mentioned, I wanted a cbf150 at first, but the bike shop recommended me fz150i, so I got the later instead...

I've rode a ta200 before, strangely I get backache from the riding position... But that's just me... Indeed the phantom has the coverted 6th gear...

Wow FZ150i looks quite cool... but can anyone give a little feedback if Phantom is going to be stop producing? or if it's gonna have a better model?

well ta200 and cbf150 riding posture diff... so u need to decide which kind u wan, then go for the bikes with the chosen posture...

actually i agree with you, Phantom does gives you a backache after a long ride... but design is good, big rims, rear disc break, low seat...(coz i'm short...)

so really having a hard time deciding on which to take...

@psx2sg: since you already rode a phantom, you already know what that is like. if you want the same thing, go get a phantom. if you want something different, go try cbf (and ybr since they are so similar), or fz150i. then decide. more people answer means more conflicting opinions which will make your decision harder. simplify it by going to check out the bikes yourself. not very different from a maintenance point of view anyway.

imo

phantom vs cbf150

loud, bad ass grunt. vs "is the engine switch on?"

i ride a ta200 and it has been serving me very well since day 1.

i get back ache too if i ride for more than 30mins, but i guess if u stay in a certain position for too long u'll get all sorts of ache anyway, so it's not a main issue for me, ill just adjust my position and stretch abit.

but one thing i do want to point out for ta200 is, the very pathetic pillion seat, it's way too small, i rode as a pillion on a phantom and my butt will get numb and it's very uncomfortable.

so do consider about the pillion seat too if u're going to use it to pillion someone

i had a ta200 before too, and from feedback, it was the most comfortable to pillion on a phantom!

relaxed sitting posture, big flat footrest (the eagle one), maybe even a cushioned box to rest ur back on.
