IHey AJ.. I removed my bafflers for 1 day and it wasn't really a good thing..

My mom could tell when I was along the road, turning into e carpark and while riding in the carpark, I have set off at least 3 car alarms..

 

I have since replaced em.. Buay tahan...

 

kekekke..... bro, tat the way!!! I rode my VTR..... alarm when off, I rode my XR4 (sold liao)..... alarm also when off, nw rode my....... seem like i rode wat, car alarm alway when off...kekekeke.....

Hi all bros, Wow!!! AJ so fast change ur ride colour liao.

I only got 19km per litre, at one time able to pumped in 21litre!!! Of cos i never max out the reserve.

I juz calculated my mileage.. I am getting approximately 23km/litres leh..

 

6000 does seem quite high for our red line is only 8000 but I feel our power band comes in at 5000++ and it is then I feel the pull of the bike...

Yamaha out liao. Ducati all the way...damn! Be warned ya. There will be alot of bikes and cars on the race day. More bikes = More business = More Thieves = More stolen bikes and parts = More Headache. Just my 2cents. Even a Malaysian friend of mine dont encourage me to ride there for the event.

read this review of a fellow UK TDMer on a BMW Test ride F800

hi again,

 

i did not want to hijack your thread, but if i'm invited in tihs friendly way (no irony here!) i'll write. just don't be angry if my experience is not compatible with the magazine tests, i come from an enduro-background....

 

ok, so i'll tell you about the f800s experience, and an experience it was indeed.

i was riding home from my usual 250km round in my playground and made a stop at the "bigge grill" near olpe in the sauerland. i had to top up my coffee, fuel was still plenty in my dicke. while i was enjoying the hot beverage i consider my own fule my eyes fell on a group of young and beautiful people all dressed alike in bmw riding gear. (2 guys, 2 girls) i then saw a range of brand new beemers on the parking ground and one of the girls approached me, and asked me if i wanted to tet ride a beemer.

first i finished my coffee and then i tried to sit on an 1200 sport boxer. too bad, my legs were too long and the knee protectors too volumious to fit into the grooves in the tank.

then i tried to sit on the f800s, i hardly managed to fold my 192cm into place and my size 46 steeel toed firefighter boots were barely fitting under the gear lever.

then the hostess talked me through the instruments, i saw the bike do its boot routine just like my pc and was told, that if i stalled the engine, i'd have to remove the key and put it back, so the immobilizer would recognize it as a legitimate starting attempt.

it even has a gear indicator, bit i can cope with 6 gears...the 27 gears on the MTB might justify one, but 6 gears..dunno...

my asking for the abs to be switched off was met with beautiful but unbelieving eyes.

ok, then i'll have to make do with abs.

with a loud clunk that would be appropriate for heavy agricultural machinery i finally managed to put it into 1st gear and left the parking space for a 30 minutes ride.

i did not know this bike, so i took it easy, did not exceed 100mph/160kph and chose a road with good asphalt and curves i know by heart.

remember, i'm on a bike that costs about 10k€ in germany...

now brace for impact....

the fork was so soft, that when i braked before curves it dived onto the blocks, thus the frontwheel was jumping on the small bumos and the abs was cutting in, where my tdm suspension just irons out these small waves in the asphalt. riding there with the tdm or the xt i never noticed the surface was that bad. the fork suspension is not adjustable, only preload and damping on the rear)

the bike handled like a 250kg whale, possibly due to the wide 120/180 tyres. conti sport attack, good grip though

oherwise the brakes were ok, no significant difference to my tdm.

the footpegs were placed so unergonomically that an average grown central european like me was not able to put the tips of the boots on them.. i left a few grams of heat resistant rubber sole on this ride....

the engine was powerful above 5000rpm, under 4000rpm it delivered the mighty torque of an electric toothbrush. but it has a lot of character....shakes more than "ye olde xt" despite its "counterweight piston"

the gearbox and the beltdrive....well, how can i put it in "safe for work" words..... if you think the tdm gearbox is bad, try the f800...it makes noises like a tractor gearbox and has an incredible amount of play in the whole transmission section. there was a lot of hesitation to translate my throttle commands into movement and every time i closed and opened the throttle the f800s acompanied this action with metallic clunking noises...

the overall impression of build-qualitiy corresponded the driving experience, cheap plastics that did not fit well and startet vibrating noisily. the "tank" is just a mockup of plastic panels (not a bad thing in itself, keeps the COG down) but it creaked like an old pirate barge around cape hoorn.

when i returned to the "grill" and returned the bike, the pretty hostess asked me how i liked the bike.

she was a little disturbed by my answer: "would you like a friendly or an honest statement?"

i stated my subjective criticism and was interrupted ba one of the male bmw riding gear models: "who returned this bike?"

i looked a little confused.."i did, why? something wrong?"

he pointed to the little crumbs of rubber that were coming off the rear tyre, no chicken strips visible: "this - on a test ride...holy sh**. what did you do?" (well losing the chicken strips on an 180 can be done commuting in the city)

"just tried to ride it like i ride my dicke, as a contemplative touring rider."

one last observation that kind of fits in the while concept of this bike: the bikes were traileded there, reasonable idea if someone crashes them, how could you get home...but the "models" were in riding gear and wearing flip flops, because it was warm. but why FFS wear riding gear, if you come by car?!? a normal bmw logo t-shirt would have looked less stupid.

 

that kind of sums it up: an underpowered, overpriced bike with crappy suspension and bad ergonomics but loads of image. good for the ice-cafe, bad for serious riding.

it is a good ride, with nice guys.

the best was morning time around 7:00 with snowy haze, along trunk roads.. on the way back was raining so heavily and traffic was heavier on the roads.

 

my first trip with kruzers so i dont know who's Atwin, my bad.

there were BMW, FJR, STX, ST11, Vara, TDM, VTX, Valk, Harleys, Magna, Ninja, K7, dragstar and at last my 2B bike.. hehe.

1st day we went to the water fall trek. It took 1.5hr to reached the foot of the jungle by using a big lorry. 3hr to get in & out. The best thing was, the leeches is everywhere. I got 4 big & juicy leeches on my both legs.

 

2nd day is the relaxing boat ride. That's the best.

 

After this trip, K-max might wanna give up his TA200 already.
