Hello!

Has anyone devised a way to cover up the exhaust area near your calves? Custom made carbon fibre heat shields can work, albiet very expensive?

The Pyramid fender extenders for Fazer1000 can fit on the TDM900?

Thank you for your time!

Regards,

kyquek

Welcome to one of the most stagnant threads on bikes....

I was burnt about 6-8 times on the calves in one night and I learnt not to wear bermudas when going to JB from the first link... All that pushing caused the burns....

I know the fender for FJR is the same as TDM. Not sure abt the FZ ones... I am interested to get one as well... Pls let me know where and how much..

Cheers!

Hi yappiez!

yeah, I read about your multiple calf burns in one night in this thread. :thumb: Your pain threshold really high.

About the fender extender, I saw it posted in Classifieds. Only three left, 1x BMW 1150S, 1x BMW 1100GS and 1x Yamaha Fazer 1000.

Tried to call them but the number is always off.

I have seen the ones used on the TDM but it didnt look similar to the FZ1000 one. I think the best bet will be physically testing it on site.

Post a pic of your bike. Let us give you more ideas on how to mod it.

At least it will keep the thread alive.....

Though it looks the similar, its not the same. Unless you are willing to put up with slight misalignment of the 'curves' of the fender. My friend and I fitted his FJR and my TDM together..and they are different alright. Those guys can bring in the exact model you want. Just got to wait for shipment.

Regarding the heat from the pipes. Spreading 'eagle' is the best and cheapest way. It happens only to us asians coz we are the only ones that wear shorts/berms when riding bikes. Non-issue at all if you wear proper attire. Tell that to those angmos and you'll be the laughing stock.

Thanks barracuda, I'll learn to use the spread-eagle method to save my calves.

More questions...

The rear view mirrors seem to be at an awkward angle, how do you adjust them? Looking under the rubber housing shows up a nut that does not seem to be adjustable (I did not have tools with me, so I was just looking). The mirrors can swivel around but they don't give a very good view behind.

Also, how to take up the slack in the throttle cable.

If you notice, there are 2 nuts on the stem of your mirror assembly. You got to loosen both and get the correct position (forwards or backwards). Then secure the bottom nut followed by the top one to lock the whole stem. Then fine adjustment is on the upper part of the mirror (ball & socket joint). The TDM mirrors are one of the best stock mirrors you can find on a motorbike. Even divvy owners are using them. I like them coz its wide and sleek.

Throttle cable too tight or loose? or is it stiff??? Oil it if its sticking. Y do you need to loosen/tighten it? Or is it when you turn handlebar, the bike revs? Some slack is normal (about 3mm-5mm movement without anything happening) Pull the sleeve on the throttle cable near the brakes to expose the adjustment nut (If I did not remember wrongly) Or else the bigger adjustments can be done on the throttle body end under the fuel tank.

hello, guys!may i know wats setting u all set for the C1/C2?

USUALI,WHEN THE BIKE GOT INTO RESERVE TANK,THE FUEL GAUGE WILL BLINK FOR A WHILE THEN THE FUEL GAUGE WILL RESET ITS COUNTER.BUT MINE SUDDENLY DUN RESET AT ALL,IT CONTINUE TO RUN THE COUNTER WITHOUT RESETING THE COUNTER.WAT HAPPENED?

AND HOWS THE (THING) FOR THE TDM T-SHIRT LIAO?SUDDEN DEATH?

Posted

Hi Chris,

What did you mean by dun reset at all? Continue to run without resetting?

My experiences are that sometimes when fuel is almost at reserve and parked with side stand, it will start to blink. After moving off for a while, as the bike straightens up, it will switch back to normal fuel readings. i.e. not in reserve anymore.

If I still carry on travelling, and it will eventually switch to reserve mode again, starting the reserve meter at 0. This time round, it will be more accurate as reserve was detected while the bike is straighten.

Is yours different from the above?

Also about the t-shirt, I have the logo posted in a few pages back. Edward asked for a different font but I didnt have time to do it.. Might not even have the knowledge to do it as the previous effort was cut and paste.

quek,

be careful when adjusting the nut for the mirror. I was dumb enough to scatch my tank with the spanner while trying to lossen it.

was told by the mech. that Yamaha mirror turns the other way to lossen. unlike normal bolts and nuts. (if i remember correctly)

Good morning!

Thank you yappiez for the tip. Luckily, she is wearing a bra, with a little padding too. :-D

Does anyone have a service manual I can borrow to copy?

What brand and type of engine oil do you use?

I am thinking of sending the bike to Yamaha Service Centre to do a once over check for things like check bearings, electrics, cable/controls freeplay, proper torque of bolts and nuts. Do they do such service? Also, what engine oil do they use?

How do you start the bike when cold? I have to press the ignition button for almost 2 seconds before she comes alive. Then the RPMs shoot up to 1.5K for about 2 mins, then slowly settles down to 1K idle. Is this normal?

Strangely, I find that I seem to carry more speed through some corners than my previous bike, a Suzuki SV400S. Maybe it's the weight of the bike adding to the momentum.

Cheers,

kyquek

kyquek, download the manuals here http://jbx9.free.fr/TDM/index.php?lang=en&...noscript&menu=3 Then print at your own free time

Most fully synthetic motorcycle oils will do. I use Castrol. HL uses Shell. As the agent, they technically should do those checks if you tell them to when you send your TDM in. The thing about HL is that they do not allow you to go into the workshop area to see them doing servicing. Hence you got to trust them to do it when you collect your bike later in the day.

The TDM has autochoke. Hence starting is just a press of the button. Mine starts easily at one press even after weeks of non-riding. RPM of course will be higher in the 1st min or so. Then it settles down to about 1k...remember the autochoke is doing its job :thumb: Very normal, dun worry about it.

Your TDM is 'telling' you to ride it harder through corners  This bike is designed to take on mountainous twisties if you read about the development of the TDM900.

Hi solo, did you get the fender extender from Motovation Accessories? If its convenient, can you let me know the price too? Thank you!

kyquek

hi kyquek,

i got it from a mass order organised by one of the members. i have forgotten the price and who i ordered it from. sorry.

btw, about the problem of having to hold the starter for 2 seconds, could it be the spark plugs needing replacement as mine starts immediately everytime unless i forgot to lift the sidestand :cheeky: .

i have a pair of spark plugs to giveaway... who wants?

I am sure they have a service like that but with your bike being so new, I doubt there should be anything wrong with it. Besides, with service manual from the link posted eariler, you have lots more excuse to DIY to know your baby inside out. I think the knowledge gain will be worth much more than $$ given to HL....

solo: But that should occur to a bike that has many miles on it, right? Mine's only at 6500km.
