In fact the S10 isn't slow per se. The pick up can be quite scary in the S mode. The top speed is 'slow' at around 220-230km/h largely becos the focus on this bike isn't for end speed which is clearly shown in the bike design and aerodynamics.

Offroad an cross country is where the S10 would be at home and one of the best in its class.

New TDM might not come since I see Yamaha seems to be concentrating on it's Fazer range and the new Diverson.

See from youtube, the angmos' thrash the S10 on the off ride like riding a 125cc, power slide somemore... I don't think its slow either...

It's high time for TDM 900 to retire, its almost unchanged for the past decade... except bits of here and there...

This shows how good it is since they launch... Most of other bikes, will be already in their many versionssssss....

Hey everyone,

New TDM 900 owner here. Love the ride so far and FC is amazing for it's engine size. Just want to ask all the old experienced birds on a few matter regarding TDM 900 so I can know more so hope someone could help me :)

1.) I have been riding for a about 3 weeks now and I notice that when I go into low speed control (half clutch during jam for example), my RPM will drop very fast to around 1K rpm. Sometimes, it will drop so fast, my engine just died after I clutch in. Wonder if it's an issue or it's like that for TDM 900.

2.) so when my engine died, I realize that I cannot just start the engine if though I clutch in. I have to kick back to neutral and then I can start. Is this normal too?

3.) Just wondering what are the best mileages you all have while riding this great ride? My first top up brings me around 21km/l (I normally ride to work on small roads back forth for about 14km both ways)

Thanks for the attention and help rendered! :D

Hey bro . . .

Congrats on e purchase of ur Tdm !! Whose Tdm did u bought ? Most of e owners are known to each other here . 

Hi Lonespy, when I first got my tdm (9years old now) it suffered from this engine cut off problem. I went to HKL, Unique, Eqp Extreme to try to solve the problem but to no avail. Finally based on a another tdm reference, I brought the bike to combine motors, they opened up the ignition assembly where the key goes in, and tidied up the internals, also did throttle sync and cleaned the throttle position sensor. Its been 8months now, never had the engine die on me again. Disclaimer, Combine price slightly higher than normal but I rather pay better for quality than to stinch and try other shops that cannot do it and can only give you a temporary respite from the problem. If you want I can bring you down to their place one of these days; I need to service soon also.

my fc about 19 bcoz i have x2 pelicans and givi topbox plus i get stuck in jams often.

3 weeks? So it shouldn't be mine or Kmax's... hahaha :cheeky: ChameloenRat's whitie perhaps?

Engine cease at halfclutch should be looked at. Could be a case of idling rpm too low. U can adjust using the knob located at the right side just under the edge of the side fairing. Increase the idling so it wont drop too much. And for those with aftermarket exos should turn it up slightly as the backpressure is lesser as compared to stock.

I think most if not all TDM can only be re-ignited when in neutral. While I think this is supposed to be a 'safety' feature, i too found it more dangerous than intended. But once u get the hang of it, it should come naturally to shift to neutral. Or if you are at a relatively higher speed when engine cease (say around 40km/h onwards), you can simply throttle abit with the clutch released to restart the engine.

Don't be too bothered about the FC. TDM is one of the best in its class and age. Thomas bike can hit 400+++km before the low fuel indicator comes on whereas my ex-TDM usually flashes at 330-350km depending on right wrist twisting.

hi guys, i've just taken over RidesAddon's 2004 TDM.

i've got a Givi box atm, may i ask if anyone is using the rack(SW-MOTECH) like below?

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/241/213/

or do you guys have any suggestions what kind of racks are available locally that is able to fit Givi E450 Simply?

RidesAddon suggested me to Seng Kwang and customised a rack bracket.

Please let me know what are the choices available.

Thanks alot!

kifakw

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car

and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,

torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Haha.... Many new 'faces' in the TDM scene. Welcome to the club although I also sold mine 2weeks ago.

Don't bother getting the SW Motech rack since u will still have to get the Givi baseplate. U can just mount the Givi plate directly onto the rear rails & if u want it to be super secured, either go Seng kwang or Bike Fabricator (Ah An) to fab a bracket for it.

Which vendor will you recommend?

Is An An workmanship and quality as good as seng kwang? i know seng kwang prices are at quite a premium.

So that means the bracket will be mounted onto the rear rails, and this bracket will mount the plastics original givi base plate to mount my box?

Yes i know you sold off recently and got yourself a S10 :D

Welcome to e Tdm thread . . . . 

If u remember , when u buy any givi or kappa base plate , it comes wif 4 bolts n 4 metal brackets .

Just use them to fasten on ur original Tdm tail rail . If u still confuse , I can show it to u how to mount e base plate . Used to hit ridiculous speeds on my Tdm wif dat kind of top box set up n still very secured . 

Happy riding !!

U want cheap and decent job = Ah An.

U want good at premium = SK

Actually for simple work can go Ah An. But for big items and u prefer superb finishing, it's better to go SK.

And yes... Me riding S10 now although I still maintain that it's a backside itchy and vain reason for the change and nothing 'wrong' about the TDM. :)

hahaha, yea...C. Rat's TP looking bike...

1.) Hmm okok, maybe I bring to workshop and take a look. My idling is indeed quite low (around 1k RPM) when I stop at traffic lights. My exhuast is stock so I assume shouldn't be the exhaust(although backside abit itchy to change lol).

2.) Yea, I realize that too. Fortunately, my bike only dies when at low speed so I wouldn't need to gabra at high speed to re-ignite the engine. Guess if i solve problem 1, then it shld be fine for me.

3.) Wow, 400++ that is quite awesome. I doubt i can hit that currently with the way I use the bike but still it's comparable to my previous bike (Super 4 Ver. S) TDM is damn awesome and stable when cruising at 120km/h too.

Thanks for the reply, Paikia haha. Guess the old birds are a nice bunch too. :D and I am happy to join the club too

Dude.... It's Ahhhh An. Not An An. Hahaha!!!

Even if I can afford 2 bikes, makes no sense to own 2 sports tourers although they have quite significant differences. Haha!! But I would love to get myself a naked street roadster as my 2nd bike like the MT-01, Vmax1800, StreetFighter or even the Z1000. But until such time when I can afford to wipe my ass with a $10 bill, the S10 is all I can afford. Hehehehe

Sadly , I don't have a pic of how I mount e base plate to the tail rails . I just helped my Fren to mount his last week . Currently , I'm using Hepco racks n top box .

Last time , I had a back pack consisting of my clothes n toileteries inside my 42L givi top box n some spare parts when I went touring up nth n Thailand . Sometimes I went beyond 200 kmh at short burst .

Hey guys,

I’m a New TDM 900 owner here. Bought it from the “Legendry bro Paikia”. Thanks to him for introduce me to this beast but seem like a Chihuahua if park side by side to his S10.

I view his bike after I view 2 continental made (Bmw and ducati) bike on the same day, but however upon he remove the bike cover to let me view, my eyes was gleaming with delight and I said to my wife, it’s mine. It was love at first sight for me. Then he start the engine, it’s love at first heard. Honestly, it was one of the nicest TDM seen.

Riding wise, love it and all thanks for Paikia for taking good care of while he own it. This beast was “beautiful inside out”.

So far only suffer engine off twice at a traffic light. I put it down to my unfamiliar with the bike rather than bike issue.

Welcome to the club, TDMer !

Adjust the idling to 1,100~1,200 rpm as per menu... Everything should be fine unless got some other issue...

If you set ard 800rpm and below most likely your engine will be cease when you clutch in...

Hi Lonespy, when I first got my tdm (9years old now) it suffered from this engine cut off problem. I went to HKL, Unique, Eqp Extreme to try to solve the problem but to no avail. Yup, Thomas's the camel... But his wrist is gentle and being trained by (Ah HEMMMM)...

Normally he ride alone with good cruising speed and distance...

i've got a Givi box atm, may i ask if anyone is using the rack(SW-MOTECH) like below?

or do you guys have any suggestions what kind of racks are available locally that is able to fit Givi E450 Simply?

RidesAddon suggested me to Seng Kwang and customised a rack bracket.

Please let me know what are the choices available.

Thanks alot!

Welcome mate !!! That's one of the lowest mileage bike around, superb low mileage...

Look for thomas... He got a spare one, made by Ah An... sweet and slick... Most important, cheap, cheap... Give him a tinkle, before he throw it away...

Replying to your Q2...

Mine, got a few occasions, dies off at speed ard 80~100kmh...

To counter the balls-shrinking feel, I came out with an SOP...

Step 1: Clutch-in, turn-off and on the ignition key.

Step 2: Start the engine...

Step 3: Good to go again... Vroom....

Remember all these action being done when you're still on the moves ! Sometimes when lane-splitting, yea...

The cause for this is Error Code no. 19...

Some said, side stand sensor, some said ignition switch (same as paikia problem) and many others...

After I spray lots of WD40 and contact lotion, and clean the side stand sensor, till now the issue has not reoccurs again...

But when it happens, apply the SOP...

I doubt so... Europe side still selling well with only the upgrade of ABS braking system since its launch of TDM900 back in 2002 !

Outlook and engine unchange for 10years !
