interesting qn... haha

but true ah... never ride bike b4? then straightaway buy 400CC bike?

u say u beginner so i presume this will be ur 1st bike... honestly speaking, i tink u might be in for a big shock when it comes to the maintenance, fuel consumption, insurance & road tax, not to mention the bike price and COE... its not exactly cheap as compared to a cub or sumting...

hi my friend, sounds like u are in quite similar situation to me....anyway, i have got my class 2a for yrs and only ridden 1 yr back as well on a shadow 400....feels good, just have to be careful and sportbike, maintenance is higher....that's what i feel comparing to my old cruiser....but nevertheless, it's fun...just got to be careful...that's all....

Hi oreo, me also the same - got my class 2a le and now waiting to take class 2 and never owned a bike until 2 weeks ago I just bought a rx-k....

erm.. ok maybe not so much the same cos mine is 135cc but anyway always place safety first.

My personal preference is rvf, however due to financial reasons I thought I'd stick to a smaller class for the moment. Just like what syaiguy mentioned, I have also calculated the expensese and it gave me a shocked too haha that's why I decided to get a small one..

After being with my rx-k for 2weeks... I tell you something - don't buy a bike that's too old unless it's been well-maintained, or you might end up spending much more than what you've budgeted on restoring and repairing it.

That being said, I think you can find newer versions of 2nd hand cbr easier. What's more, rvf's got a v-engine in a position which I heard can get pretty hot down 'there' when riding; and also not as many people can do a good job of repairs for v-engine as compared to inline engines.

Another thing is I dunno whether the cost of replacement parts for v-engine would be greater but one thing I'm sure is that cost of replacements for bigger cc bikes definately MUCH MORE than my 135 rx-k.

Good luck in your bike hunt :thumb:

thx for ur opinions guys

ive narrowed down my choices to

zx7r and cbr 400cc

eventho d 400cc is more suitable to a beginner but

d zx7r is cheaper

but i heard dat a kawa cost more to maintain..

is it true??

thx

and wat did yall get as a first sbk??

kawasaki zx4r ? the kwacker offers better performance and a higher sitting position but the honda is a cheaper alternative with less grunt and slightly lesser power. kawasaki parts are more difficult to obtain compared to honda parts but some are interchangeable with other bike brands. imho, the zx4r and the rvf are not worth it unless you're planning to ride it for more than 2 years. if you're planning to upgrade soon, get a cheap cbr and don't overdo your mods (steel braided brake hose/ aftermarket air filter) so you would have enough moolah for your class 2 bike.

Yeah, the ZX7 is cheaper, but Kawa parts are usually harder to find, and are expensive. That aside, the ZX7 is not exactly light weight, and is much more powerful than the CBR400. Are you ready for this?

Apart from insurance and road tax, I would say maintenance costs are similar between the two.

Also bear in mind that low buy price also equates to low selling price later on. There is no such thing as a cheap bike with good resale value.
