Don't be too concern about power cut-off..you dont need that top speed as often. Emphasise more on Vtec or Non-Vtec.

IMHO..Vtec is more for the fc conscious. You be running on 8 valves till Vtec open and comes in after 6-6.5 rpm. Non-Vtec is all 16 valves and the power push demand from 1k rpm on to 7.5k rpm is different. However, if you are fc conscious and want a Ver S..you have to dicispline yourself when blipping the throttle..then again..power comes with high fc.

New or old..do a bit of maths and it's all the same. The $s saved for an older one can be use for makeover externally and internally. However, what matter most is the day you make your choice bike..being most important, the internal conditions. How much more you gonna spend further is all about the condition. Get an experience guy or a friend who has a godd S4 to check it out for you. I have seen too many class 2a beginner buying 2nd/3rd...hand bike that's not worth what they have pay for. Don't worry about how old the bike is..what meets and worth your budget is more practical.

Good luck on your choice bike.

wait. which means we're running on all 16 valves right? say, if a vtec version doesnt regularly open its vtec, does that mean it saves fuel too? but comparing to us, we are running on more valves than them, so why does it makes our bike more fuel economical?

I'd rather get a Leo Vince than a Louis Vuitton.

Yes.

if a vtec version doesnt regularly open its vtec, does that mean it saves fuel too?

Yes and no...very subjective. Many factors contribute to fc.

As far as Vtec is concern, its not that it's really running only on 8 valves..but from what I read and understand, its's one intake valve remains closed until a threshold of 6k or 6.5k rpm is reached, then the second valve is opened by an oil-pressure actuated pin. The dwell of the valves remains unchanged, and little extra power is produced but with a smoothing-out of the torque curve.

but comparing to us, we are running on more valves than them, so why does it makes our bike more fuel economical?

This is not the case as with what a 16 valves and a 8 valves is.."economical" and I did not stipulate that.

You have to understand the mechanic of design of a 16 valves and that of a 8 valves and how it works first. Fc itself here is very subjective as I mentioned earlier.

16 valves engine DOHC provide high-rev capability over an 8 valves push-rod engine...in short, level of performance for its fuel efficiency.

Comparing the two, you would not be able to get the same performance level for the same level of fuel efficiency.

You did not mentioned what S4 you riding..at any rate, spray some silicon on the cables like brake hoses or speedometer cable as it may be touching your fender..whatever.

Yeah! A had that squeaky sound too. Thought it was my right fork. But I placed some grease on both my brake-hoses and the sound is gone. The brake-hose was rubbing against the metal clip holder each time the bike goes over a hump, causing that "squeak". :bounce:

hi need some help here, some people say spec 1 fuel comsumtion is better then spec 2 is it true?

not true la. vtec in spec1 open later then spec2. partially depend on ridding style. and btw, newer bike might mean better FC as well..

thumbs up fr Ah Pek!

we all learn a whole lot from him from time to time.. LOL..

Hey guys...thanks for the kind words..but really..its all boils now to interest and being an enthusiast in motorcycle. You guys sooner or later will understand why certain things are engineered such and when things goes wrong...you would likely know why when the basic of mechanics in it is with you...regardless of what bike and models...much like swimming..once you can swim, you always can..just how you handle the water behaviour, condition and situation to reach the other end.

In short..Ah Pek is no big deal la...just 'handy'...LOL! :D
