hey guys! i've got a question... how do i know if i need to replace the tensioner?

Tensioner?...since when S4 got tensioner...unless your's a dirt bike version...LOL! Anyway...you meant the rubber thingy that runs along your frontal swing arm near the front sprocket?..the cushion slippers preventing the chain from hitting the swingarm frame? If that's the case..wait till its damage lor. Want to change anytime oso can but that thing and workmanship is not cheap. If you always lube your chain well and clean that area of sand..its last you at least 10 years and above.

S4 no tensioner? Oops. Haha. anyway no i wasn't referring to the cushion slippers. i was actually thinking of the timing chain and it's tensioner if it has any. haha. when do i replace them?

You don't normally have to replace it till you hear mild "clackling" or "soft metal slapping" noise in you mid engine block..likely the slipper tensioner is out of specs alreday. As far as any so called "fixed period" (from Km usage to period in months)for anything that need replacement..take it as only a guide bekuz..most wear and tear or subjected to how the bike is used and its environment being use.

thanks ah pek for the insight. there's a very very mild clacking noise currently. would it be detrimental in any way to my engine if i don't replace it anytime soon? anyway, i saw this service package at a motodiam offering replacement of valve seals, servicing inlet valves and replacement and balancing of shims. i'm kinda baffled by these terms so may i check how do i know if i need all these servicing shims, valves, etc. thanks!

I think you are referring to the "Top Overhaul" servcing package as adverise here in the SBF..at $650 I think. :bounce: You item you listed is really incomplete..like why only inllet valves..my question is what about oulet valves? Oso..never heard of "Shim balancing":sian: ..normally we have them replace. The valves should be grind and clearance readjustable with new change of shims.

Its too much to type in writing so I have included an image of a exploded top end showing what's normally is invovle in an top overhaul. As for your timing chain tensional..you might as well have the chain replace as well as the tensioner. You love it all when its done well.:cheeky:

Thanks again ah pek. the image really gave me a clearer picture of the insides of the engine block. yup i was actually referring to their advertisement. so i was kinda just listing some of the stuff they offered under their top overhaul service. anyway, any suggestions as to which motodiam i should go for an overhaul?

bro i did a top overhaul recently. my block was leaking eo and so, after much contemplating, i took a $450 package at a nearby tiam (i stay bedok). i cant really remember what the whole package consist of ah, but got change o-ring, timing chain, re-did the gasket, coolant, blahblahblah. i dunno if i got ripped off or not coz i never really checked other shops, but the job done was pretty good. so, no complains from me. :bounce: anyway, my bike has been serviced at the shop for the past few years, so yeah. :clapping:

Likely your clutch cable is out of clutch pull due to normal wear..did you tried adjusting your clutch cable play? Fine adjustment is at clutch level and the major one is at lower right.

If so and problem still exist..could be your eo or clutch assembly getting worn soon...but do the clutch adjsutment first if there is any play left.

Anyone changed their wheel bearings at unique before? The price quoted is higher than other shops. Front ($28) Rear ($38). Is the quality better??
