i tho our version S can hit 30 kms/litre cause i see the thread on the fuel consumption under "Chit Chatting".

i wonder how the guys do it.

the high idling rpm drinks more fuel but the good point is, at first crank the bike always starts up without stalling :D

tuning is the percentage of air/fuel ratio that goes into the carb for each combustion, more fuel % = more backfire = more sound.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car

and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,

torque is how far you take the wall with you.

If it leaks..it keeps leaking when your bike starts but in your case, look like it just an overflow issue as you mentioned its right under your bike. This is quite normal.

Actually it leaks when i am warming up the bike (ie, engine running) in the morning and/or after I have parked my bike for maybe half and hour. What I am worried about is the possibility of the cooling system losing a significant amount of coolent through slowly leaking, while the reservoir tank still indicating there is suffient.

I believe we can only check whether there is sufficient coolent by checking the reservoir level right?

Thanks!!

wah fuel consumption 30km/l...thats really powderfull...

mine currently only ard 21-23km/l....and thats when i gear change at 4-5 rpm..travelling speed ard 100-120 at e'way....travelling patern ard 60-40 highway/urban...

donch know how come those riders can reach 30km/l....

my idling is set low at less then 1 when start up...thats why everytime i stop at traffic light i kancheong scared engine die...haha

but so far only happens once lah so should be ok.....

It aint me officer...The bike is POSSESSED!!

Posted

Average is 20-25km/l. Even if 30km/l can be achieved, but at what cost? Change gears at 2k rpm? Max speed 60kmh?

Might as well we ride according to traffic flow and speed rather than be tailgated by a lorry just to save a few dollars.

Do you know where exactly the leak is coming from and is it every now and then?

My best guess is the water pump cover.

Maybe i should bring my bike to your place for you to examine and i can explain why i strongly suspect its that particular part.

Ah pek, need ur expert advice:cheeky:lol yesthday i check my reserve coolant level seem to drop by half, after that time u top it up for me. i dont have the tools to open my tank and check the radiator. if the reserve coolant level drop the radiator oso need to top up right?

i viewed a ver s yesterday & noticed 2 things:

1. the bottom of the bike where the 4 pipes join to the exhaust seemed rusty - this seems like a common trait among other s4 i see ard @ car parks too.

2. when i test rode the bike, i found that power seemed to be sluggish below 3000rpm (even though i twisted the throttle quite a lot) after which it seemingly surged forward a bit. not drastically but it was noticeable. i only managed to try this out in 1st & 2nd gear as i was riding in the car park. when revved at neutral the engine sounded really good though.

is this normal?

Checking should be done on a cold engine (eg in the morning before starting the engine). If the engine is hot, then the coolant level on the reservoir may not be a good indicator as the coolent is flowing around the system.

And I dont think it its a good idea to top up via the radiator cap. Cos you dont know how much coolent is left inside the system this way.

1. Some rust is normal, unless they are stainless steel. Ver S 'headers' are not stainless steel. They undergo so much heat fluctuations and are also exposed to moisture. But if the rust is so bad that you can poke a hole through, then its definitely no good lah.

stRobe has answered ur questions withr regards to topping up.

As for your low level, your engine block leakage may be the cause still but I do not rule out riding style like lots of start stop riding in heavy traffics..etc. Most coolant easily evaporate too in this situation. You may want to add coolant with concentrated ones at 70% and distilled water at 30%..evapouration rate is slower. Engine ice quality helps with it extra 50% cooler but come at a cost. But please note that its not actually cooler by 50%, just that it can take 50% more overheating of your engine before evapouration starts and its a premix coolant (no distilled water needed). If your block is still leaking, then topping up is a must regardless of whatever coolant you used.

yes super 4 got choke. left hand side near the signal there.

oil LED is on before u ignite. after ignite will go off, normal. side stand down, light on, side stand up, light off.

If temperature LED got on before, think the engine is too hot, seek yr mech to check yr coolant.

thank you tangmulong bro!! yea, finally i manage to locate the choke.. :D

" i've seen my temperature LED turn ON before leii.. even when i'm riding.. this is making me a little 'paranoid' actually..)"

"If temperature LED got on before, think the engine is too hot, seek yr mech to check yr coolant."

tangmulong4488 is right about the temp in a NORMAL condition S4. But if your coolant is not overheating etc..its likely your wiring problem, either its aged thru time and have carnonised or the sensor connection is 'faulty'. Best way to check is to have your bike stationary, on your engine and just turn your handle bar left and right in various speed. If the temp lights comes on at random or intermittently..its wiring problem (partially broken..etc) near the fron't, just behind the handlebar and begining of the tank.

ah pek bro & tangmulong bro, so it is safe to say that its a "good" thing that i have never seen my temp LED light up before? juz to confirm again bros, the temp LED will ONLY on if the bike over-heating rite? not any other time hor? (like when turn key on or ignite engine..)

and also bros wat's the correct tyre pressure to pump for the tyres ar? cuz last night go out with my friend.. aft he try my bike, he say i need to go pump air ler.. but he wasn't too sure about the spec so we pump abit only.. he said it would be best if i check with u guys first before pumping in more air..

THANKS TO ah pek bro, tangmulong bro & all super4 bros IN ADVANCE FOR TAKING YR TIME TO ANSWERS MY QUESTIONS.. THANK YOU!! :D

Depend on your size and weight. Is your friend much heavier then you? If you weight around 60-80kg and height about 1.7m, suggest you put around 240 for front and back 280 for Singapore road. If up North long trip, front 220 and back 260..pillion or not. Have to try and see how it fare as different tyre (compound - low profile, or non compound - Sports Touring) oso give different results. Most ppl put 250 front and 290 back..and if you feel that there is lots of 'thumbling' rattle and noise, its too hard for your weight..just off by 10-20 till you find it suitable for comfort.
