Hi guys,

Anyone here holding a PPL license. I am looking for buddies to fly during Saturdays or Sundays. I've got about 20 solo hrs on my license. It would be great to share our experience and flight hrs. Oh BTW, the aircraft is a Cessna 172.

I can pick you up from your home at about 0530hrs and send you back at about 1200hrs. If you are interested, Please PM me or SmS me at 98518760.

Those who's got a restricted PPL or simply wanna go for a joy flight are welcomed too.

As for pilots here...please feel free to answer any enquiries asked by "Pilot Wannabes" and help them get their wings too.

I never got a chance to fly an airplane because I'm born with partial colour blindness. This did not stop me from reading everything aviation and flying every flight simulator (combat and non combat) there existed from 1988 to 2006.

Now my interest lies in motorcycle engineering...... and basic RC helicopters.

I see you're more interested in people who actually FLY airplanes and I guess I don't fit the bill lol. But all the best to setting up an SBF Aviation Forum :D

Too bad, singapore skies are restricted with only military dropzone, plus my jump licence has expired long ago, otherwise, you take me up, i come down on my own. Perfect!

Some of you sent me SMSes regarding more details so here you are:

- Flying will be done in senai airport.

- Most likely, the departure time will be at 0700hrs.

- All you need for the day will be:

2) A Completed White Card. (Compulsory)

3) RM$380 (for 1hr of flight). (Compulsory)

4) Your motorcycle Helmet. (Optional)

5) A Jacket. (Optional)

6) Sunglasses and Cap. (Recommended)

6) Flight Log book (For pilots). (Unless you intend to give me your hrs)

7) Headsets. (optional)

- Some of the options that we have when we are up in the air:

1) Circuits.

2) Senai Area flight

3) Navigational flights to Batu Pahat, Malacca etc.

- If you want, you can use your own bike to ride up with me.

- No other expenses on your part.

That's about it... I'll update if there's anything else.

interesting. a thread for pilots.

One of my future goals is to obtain a PPL license and fly too. care to share how much it is to take the course? recommended schools/instructors and how much are you spending to upkeep this lovely hobby? thanks.

From zyrofillica.

I took this PPL course full time for about 1 month in Senai. Since there was consistency, it helped me to complete the course faster and cheaper about S$20k.

There are some schools around this region. I did some research myself before enrolling in 'FRAS flying club'. It is quite pricey compared to the other schools but I think it was worth my $ for other more important reasons (Safety, maintenance of A/C, Teaching methods).

Most of the instructors there are based in Singapore so I clicked with them from the moment we took off.

Practice and enthusiasm are the keys to flying well so I find that flying at least once a week is good. And the flying rates there..... about RM$700/hr. On top of that I've got yearly membership and medical check-ups to pay for.

I hope I answered all your queries.

I wouldn't put the word "Wannabes" in this thread's title if I think you don't fit the bill, would I?

Welcome to the family. We'll be honoured to have someone with that much of aviation knowledge.

Yes, you don't need any license. You just have to be of sound mind and have an interest in flying.

It is also an opportunity to find out if flying is really your interest or not before enrolling into a school. You will be sitting in the co-pilot's seat so you will definitely 'feel' it.

If you are interested to go up with me, just put down your names and I'll book the flight on either SAT or SUN in the weeks ahead.

I've posted more details in a posting above...check it out.

thanks for the info. one more thing, which type of aircraft are u licensed to fly and what aircraft are available in malaysia? does your license have restrictions too like motorcycle license (2b, 2a, 2?)

i'd say violord is probably licensed to fly the cessna 172 on his PPL.

as for wat aircraft available in msia, maybe he can shed more light on that.

flying licenses do have restrictions.

to summarise in layman terms..

a Private Pilot License is the basic license one can get, and thus are for single-engined planes (like the c172).

1) a PPL allows the holder to take up passengers only for recreational joyride purposes.

2) VFR vs IFR, ie: good weather vs flying in bad weather like rain and clouds.

PPL only allows one to fly in VFR conditions. thus, once there is imminent weather, get ready to return home.

3) restricted vs unrestricted PPL

basically an unrestricted PPL means the pilot can plan and fly navigation/cross-country sorties.. whereas a restricted PPL holder can only stay within the training area allocated.

4) type of aircraft.. the PPL will entitle the holder to fly any single-engined plane of a certain category (eg below 5700kg)

BUT the pilot is only allowed to fly an aircraft which he is licensed to.

IF he wants to fly another aircraft type, he will need to take a few more hrs of training, a theory exam, and a check flight in order to be endorsed.

Yeah, thks pretty mussel. I hope that cleared your doubts, zyrofilla.

To understand better...let me put it in perspective with getting a M/C license....

Class 2B being similar to PPL

Class 2A .................... CPL

Class 2..................... ATPL

Since you got your license with the driving centre's bike which is a, let's say a RXZ, then you can only ride a RXZ after you have passed your TP. To ride the RS125, you have to go through say about 10hrs of riding with a qualified instructor. After he has given you a 'Pass', you may ride the RS125 also. The theory test...it depends whether the aircraft that you are already rated to fly is not too different than the one you intend to fly.

I am now about to get a rating to fly a low wing aircraft called the AT-4LSA. It is a low-wing aircraft much like the Piper Warrior but with a Glass Cockpit. BTW the C172 is a high-wing.

As far as I know, the clubs/Schools in malaysia love to train their students in the Cessna or the Piper.

If you are interested to fly a certain aircraft... you should enquire at the club or school directly.

I've always loved flying. Used to be in YFC but cutting rates there are so high so I never made it to the PPL course.

Been thinking of getting a PPL on my own, but moolah is an issue. If I ever do, it'd definitely be in Malaysia though since I understand that there is a rating that needs to be taken in Malaysia anyway. Do you know which clubs fly the Piper? I used to fly on the Piper :D

I went up to senai earlier. Saw 2 pipers. 1 belongs to Johor Flying Club the other Elite Flying Club. JFC's piper was in the hangar...so you better call up before you go.
