Another one is bike with so many gauges and when ask to interpret the readings, the rider cannot explain. I remember I was with a group of Harley riders and this guy bought the engine oil thermometer dip stick. Turns out that he doesn't know how to read the gauge (ie the operating temperature). After berating him, I explained how to read the gauge when the bike's in normal riding conditions and the operating temperature range.

When I think about it, I feel a bit bad telling him off.

i know you're a poser when your signature lists all the bikes and/or acessories you have

not sure why but does it really make you seem more "experienced?"

don't edit your signature la.. you know you're one!

actually, by listing the bikes you've rode before, people will be able to PM you questions if they wanna know more about those bikes. most ppl have no idea with regards to some bikes like my wr4. and so far, there have been a few riders enquiring on it, and a fellow wr4 new rider asking me for some info. and some people don't even know slackriders exist. lol... so, i really don't agree on this argument. as a rider, we should help out each other by not letting bikeshops cheat our hard earned money.

I wear a full leather racing suit and the boots to go to and from work.. just a few hot and sweaty miles in a slow Singapore traffic..

Does this make me a poser? :D

Maybe. But I honestly don't care: if you ever went down, you would reconsider that 'poser opinion'.. :)

Ride safe!

Active safety - wear 'interesting' fashions and decorate bike 'interestingly' so that all road users stare at you and slow down to stare more thereby making the road safer for all.

Posing ftw

Like on the attached pics? :D

Overseas, people label posers as riders who wore t-shirt, slippers, shorts and stuff.

Over in SG, posers are label the other way wrong.

Weird world isn't it?

Yeah, Singapore biking culture is rather unusual, let alone road culture in general.

Take it or leave, but in the end it is going to be the butt and the wallet of the beholder.. And hospital care ain't cheap..

So, make your bets, gentlemen. Make your bets. :)

LOL! I guess you are right.

I guess we/I take the dictionary meaning of posing very seriously, implying either of the following;

  • buying huge/powerful but locally impractical machine to show off, such as driving a Ferrari down Orchard road at 50kph
  • buying $10k worth of racing parts for your streetfighter and riding slowly for everyone to see
  • striking an interesting pose with your bike/car;

While riding in flipflops and too-casual attire is all too common even amongst the more safety-conscious of riding groups I've been with. My jaw literally dropped.

This thread is probably written by and meant for all the Harley gang riders. Not the Singapore type Harley riders... the true blue beer guzzling, gun toting, Hells Angels type who is covered with tatoos and pillions a fat sloppy tatooed woman around who loves lifting up her shirt to show off her sagging tits.

To them... if you are man enough, if a bug flies into your mouth...you EAT it.

Anyway... posers are everywhere. Phantoms want to pose as Harleys... Harleys want to pose as Hells Angels.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery... and everybody always want to be somebody else but themselves.

Nice one, Raptor.

To the point, refreshing, sensible and very funny comment! Bravo!

However, it is slightly off topic: my understanding is that this thread is not about whether there are posers or not, but whether being a poser in Singapore is OK or not OK.. In the end, there will be no answer, but still it is interesting to see what others have to say. :)

I have been posing for about many-many years myself, and maybe that is why am still around.. Some of us care what others think, some of us don't.. I personally don't, as long as my butt has adequate protection: I simply know how it feels to hop on it alongside a hopping bike..

Yet I see those smirks every now and then at the traffic lights, sort of a challenge: 'hey, you wear leathers! wow! do you wanna race or what? vroom-vroom...'.

What is funny, such crap mostly comes from those on 'done up and beautified' 2B and sometimes 2A bikes.. Yeah, right..

Also, could someone please explain to me, why those riding Sparks/Waves tend to do the most stupid things in heavy traffic, when the bikes with x10 times bigger engines stay in lane?

And, whilst we are at it, I am really curious: why some guys wear shirts or nylon jackets the other way around (with buttons/zip at the back)? Is it a trademark of some ah-peck group? This has been puzzling me for years..

Cheers!

Inferior complex

Because they can squeeze

Its the heat, exposing the back reduces heat entrapment since we are moving forward. (These ah-peks did some wind tunnel testing and came to that conclusion!)

:D Yeah, Cougar, I am.. But it was not me on a Kwak... and am not surprised the fella was/is in full gear. I guess it is a UK/European thing... It does not have to be leather all around, but a proper riding attire.. At least a jacket.

Ah.. RVF.. great bike.. :)

And thanks for answering my questions, mate! :thumb:

I used to be a cub-rider and I don't do said silly things. Actually, make that daredevil cub-street-racer with custom tuned buzz-bomb and I don't do any of those silly things.

Mid-lane antics are not entertaining nor are they very efficient; waiting for a clear overtaking opportunity to zoom past all the slow movers is ultimately more productive. While staying clear from the usual hazard-causing riders/drivers.

Phantoms want to pose as Harleys...
Nah, not for me - I like my 40km/l economy and quick acceleration. The Phantom is already overweight for its puny little mill, but is designed to be agile in traffic (Thailand style?) and fat fenders, beach bars totally ruin the riding experience. IMO of course.

More practical to strip the Phantom down, do some aero stuff and pretend to be some 1950s cafe racer. (Cafe racer posing!!)
