hey guys. is it all of sg roads are getting worse with the road works or is it only me?

you should go to shanghai and see... even the locals say everytime they keep digging up roads and repaving to lay various infrastructure.... power cables, Fi op cables, Underground MRT systems.... etc. Soon we will become like them.

i used to think that sometimes they put up road works to boost employment figures. but then again, most of the people working are foreigners so that didn't make sense. then i thought that maybe they are just doing this as part of some project plans - infrastructure lah, enforcement lah, improvement lah...you get the idea. then i thought how come some work is done so badly and never repaired...but eventually they do get repaired...albeit it takes a number of years. maybe the inspection window is too wide? maybe the resources available is too thin?

but i think the biggest problem is maybe they don't have a good enough method for prioritizing what kind of road works are most important and critical. after all, a badly positioned hump or hole can be dangerous to riders...and some to drivers as well. so maybe if they had a better system of prioritizing, resources can be put to use in the more critical areas first as long as key infrastructural and enforcement type things don't get too compromised.

i'm rambling...but i think it is still good to see road works happening. my biggest gripe really is that they should pick better times to work on certain roads. i always wonder why some choose to do work when traffic seems heavy...that irks me to bits especially when driving.

the solution? have great music...and leave early...then i find i enjoy my ride/drive...no matter what :p

agreed, sillypore road are better maintained... m'sia highway road condition are good too.. but road leading to small town are kind of bad.

Beside my m'sian classmate told me that it take donkey years to complete a road in their country. Certainly this something we don't get to see here.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

In this respect, from 2003 until now it has been getting steadily safer; I can ride at 70kph if I wanted to and not worry of being run off the road.

can't do that in my earlier days (more like 120 or else).

Case in point - CTE.

Now the 25c ERP for northbound highway in the evening is worth it, as there is little congestion from TPY onwards.

However the BKE-> PIE intersection is horrible. Lets see how many years needed for an improvement.

There's an interesting chicane leading to Yishun. another at Adam Road. Must try when wet :3

Comparing Bolehland and Sillypore, of course we have the better roads. I was told that a cub over there pays 2RM for roadtax a year, while a cub here pays about $64 a year. Say 10 cubs uses the same road that has uneven patchwork/pothole, that's $640 of moolah of budget to properly repair the road. That's just 10 cubs. Or what about 10 super fours? 10 R1s maybe? About what 10 Mercs/BMWs?

Also Bolehland is a huge country, unlike our "if whole of china spit, we sink" island.

actually the roads in sg are quite ok la, i would say nice, even

except for the bloody bumpy kpe and there is this part of orchard road outside cathay, the road is so uneven that once i was squeezing traffic and i stop beside a taxi, to my surprise the taxi looked very short, i looked down and omg there is a visible difference between the part of the road i was on and the part the taxi was on

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

The condition of the roads in SG is generally okay compared to the other countries i have ridden in. Have come across potholes (think the size of a kelisa) where even 18 wheeler trucks avoid like crazy.

It's our drivers that are the dangerous ones.

There are nice drivers and there are 'terrorist' ones all over. Not fair to judge by vehicle type, or etc. Although I keep a wary eye on "junkyard tuner" EK/EG series Civics, old Corollas... and new Civics with big spoilers on the back.

Big spoilers don't mean the right to terrorise other road users for amusement.
