Ah Tiong knows u by Friday13? hahaha... interesting name!

Mettzler 3? That's ok?

I'm on the stock Mettzler 4 now... not very good reviews on it, though it seems ok. But after reading the reviews, I dun try to be fancy on them.

Yes that's the place. Yes tell him Friday13 and he will know. :cheeky: Almost all my biker friends known me as friday13 due to my no plate. If you meet me and my darling, you will know why. :cheeky:

Back to tyres, I really dun recommend PP for the road. Pilot sport is ok. That's why my next will be M3 to try. 014 is ok too but I cannot get the confidence to go aggressive when I feel like it.

Thanks man.

My tyres just touching 10k, but look pretty new still with treads still pretty much there. Just haven't done anything with my bike for a while, so itching to change something.

PC and exhaust a bit beyond me right now... haha

Actually, I am also itching to do up my babe. Maybe let us discuss what is a good mod. :cheeky:

I'm kinda unhappy with the low end power zone (2000 to 4500 rpm) and find that the factory ECU map is rather rich. So now is thinking of a PC III to change it to my liking. Any comments guys?

yeah... that rpm range is quite a "discomfort" zone to ride within. PC-ing up should smoothen out the jerkiness. Try to do it together with your other mods (the slip on alone changed it to slightly lean, A/F of prob below 14.7).

depends on whether yours a pre 06.

honda supposedly change the setting from the 06 onwards such that it is less discomforting.

but a pciii is always a good solution :cheeky:

ehh.. Sorry.... but may I know more about what did Honda improved on the 06 model onwards? From what I read, they only re-adjusted the secondary sets of valves to open and close at a wider rpm range to reduce the tendency of jerkiness. Have they re-mapped the ECU for the 2~4.5k range?

Kinda lost touch with VFR new stuffs:sweat:

Please correct me if I wrong ... or advise from what i have not been dated myself with..:cheeky: Thankz:cheeky:

PS : PC the bike vely ex... that time wanna do... but boh lui :(

frankly speaking, no one knows what honda did (and honda isn't really doing much publicity).

however, from the 06 model onwards, the part number for the ecu and the jets are different, probably to cater to the new valves opening/closing. however, the overseas riders also found that changes were made to the mapping/delivery such that the bike, generally, felt smoother. so, i guess, the logical conclusion (that they got) was that as honda decided to change the new valves opening/closing setting, they also made subtle changes to the ecu/mapping and the jetting.

Generally the transmission of my bike is smooth. But I really dislike the 'soft' feel of the 2000 to 4500 rpm zone. And always I can smell unburnt gasoline from my exhaust. That's why I am thinking a PC III for my woes...

Especially with the side panniers mount, the bike handling becomes X1.5 clumsiness so to offset this difference during corners and U-turns, I need a bit more low end power.

PC III plus mapping will cost $650... Love to get exhaust but only have 1K overall budget... Haiz... Was thinking of changing air filter also... But I think after mapping my fuel consumption will be slightly better.

It is better to keep quiet and remain a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts...

Read on the KNN site (if I remember correctly) that the air filter for VFR doesn't add to the power. Not sure if it helps make smoother delivery / other benefits etc.

I'm riding the 06, but not any models before it, so not sure about difference in low-end. However, below 4k, engine feels sluggish and jerky. Often need to slip the clutch to smoothen things out... which I never used to do on other bikes. Makes taking corners and low speed riding laborious.

Seems worse after I changed to Esso EO 10/50W recently.

Does that make a difference to the performance?

Or sometimes I wonder if my riding technique is at fault.

But even with its idiosyncracies, it's a great bike which I intend to keep for a while still... hehehe

No lah bro, I guess you are just to used to in-line 4s that this low-end trade off of a V4 is a burden to you. After riding VFR for a while, I occasionally take my bro's R6 out for a spin.

Trust me, the next time you touch a in-line will be a wonderful feeling. My bro's R6 feels like a toy to me now and I have much better confidence to handle it.

I see... will be less hard on myself then.. haha

I've had a CB400 and a Fazer before the VFR... so you're right... all in-line 4s.

Didn't know the behaviour is a V4 characteristic...

I thought maybe the EFI and the oxygen sensors n stuff are the ones causing this issue (or my riding). Nonetheless, it's got better over the almost one year Ive had it. The first time I rode up the spiralled multi-storey carpark drveway, which is quite steep, I thought the engine was going to die anytime and the bike collapse on me!! haha

But touch wood... so far so good, hasn't happened. :cheer:

My Baby just hit 100000! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Clocked 54k myself in the past 2 year. No issues to report besides normal wear and tear.

Will be sending my baby to stamford soon to do a valve clearance + rear shock overhaul and replace tensioner. Going to miss riding her for a few days i guess.

Another improvement you guys can try is replacing the ballbearing. I did it when mine was worn out and my mech installed a special type that makes turning really quick and sharp. Cost me $150 tho but I think it is worth it (original is 60 or so).

The Lights!!! So Bright,

PickUp!!! So Fast,

Sporty Look wif comfort - coz my gf will always be my pillion everytime i go work.

Top Speed -- no need so fast, coz i seldom go Touring. But occasionally, may go in Kulai have a Run wif my friends.

Currently riding a Phantom for 5 years liao. Sian...

Had my class 2 licence three years ago...

VFR will be my 1st choice

If no buget to buy, my 2nd choice will be

Maintainence wise for VFR800, will be expensive bah i think.

pick up is not fast below 4k. After that till about 11.8k it pulls well and is almost equivalent to a 05G6. Anything past abt 170kmh its no longer a catching game as it can catch up.

Top speed is abt 250~255kmh w/o panniers. Touring no need fast mah. What you need in touring is stable comfy at 140~180kmh which is most ppls touring speed, and decent torque for quick overtakes with full lugguae n pillion. On the other hand, short runs to Kulai is what you will usually find it a bit frustrating as you will never be able to keep up with them as they can do 250kmh easily.

Maintainence is not expensive. Its still gonna cost you price for 3 bottles. OEM oil filter is standard price. Apart from REPLACEMENT parts which might take time for orders to be delivered/or subjected to availability. maintainence cost is quite very much the same as any 0.6l or 1l machines.

The most expensive would prob be

1. OEM plugs close to $30 a piece (last easily 30k. I checked the gap at 24k not even 1/4 used)

2. OEM pads $65/pair (the bloody linked brakes made me change my rear even though I never used the rear brakes at all!!)

Pinpoint what kind of ride you will be looking at before you decide your bike. End of they day, it what you want the machine to provide what you love to enjoy.

Good luck in scouting! :cheer:

Yup, just been riding for 2 years. I am the third owner. Previous owner took very well care of the bike. I bought it through this site. I have tried to continue taking care although I am pretty non tech when it comes to DIY. I leave everything to my mech who is one of the best in the biz.

Maintenance is pretty basic like any other bike. For VFR at oround 70 to 80K you might need to change the ballbearings in your steering column (i dun know how they call that) and the tensioners.

But since you ride a sportbike, normally you don't stinge on wear and tear items. Only the best for my baby so I end up with some hefty bills. I got to service my Ohlins shock soon and do a complete valve clearence + tensioners so thats going to set me back close to 1K I am afraid. But then after that I should have the best running Viffer in singapore :cheeky:
