ya lor...the coolant just always overflow.....even on expressway.... best is when engine shutdown, the coolant rush out alot from the overflow tube...

suspect the raditor cap faulty... but have to wait until 2molo send in to workshop to do diagnostic than know the result... hai.. :weep:

Anyone found a good way to bring the bike's temperature down? BTW I'm riding a 2002 VFR800VTEC......Seems now it's getting hard to bring the temperature below 100 Degree C these days....unless i just really keep travelling on xpressway all the way...hmmmm...

can try to install manual switch for the fan. I did it and it really helps a lot. The moment i get into heavy traffic and the temp rises to 93 to 95 I switch on and the temp drops to around 85. Does not feel so hot. The auto start of the fan still works at 105degree.

Another thing I do is switch off engine when waiting for traffic lights provided you know when it turns green and ur temp is not too high yet (

rstopel, meaning you bypass the themostat control of the stock fan?

Or u added another extra fan.

Thinking of adding a spare fan... think got other forumer got do also.

So did the workshop got to the root of the problem? I suspect its the thermostat

oh, just a simple bypass switch i guess (mechanic did it :thumb: ) No extra fan installed. One fan should be enough unless it is really hot and you get stuck in heavy trafffic after a long ride.

ya... after all is the raditor cap tat cause the problem.... the cap spring found faulty so when it reaches high temp. the cap cannot hold the pressure and cause all the coolant to return to the coolant tank.... so after tat change a high rate pressure cap became good liao.

Hey rick, where u install the switch? How much?

Go SLT get a DIY switch and some electrical cables.

Cut cable into 2 pieces:

1 piece connect to fan thermostat connector.

1 piece ground it.

Connect the 2 pieces to your DIY switch.

There you go, less than $5 and 15mins of your time

For those who ride the pre-Vtec VFRs, do u setup side pods?

Jus wondering you guys using OEM panniers, Givi (which model), H&B (which model)...

Thinking of getting side pods for my viffer.

Posted

Along the same line..... i'm considering letting go of my Honda-OEM side panniers.

Metallic-Digital Silver - same as '04 model

bought in August '05 (Yes, less than 1 year) @ S$1,900

Condition - exterior: some minor scratches due to gravels hitting it while Touring

Condition - interior: Perfect 9.5/10!

Comes together with an additional pair of Honda-OEM soft panniers. These panniers fits the same shape of the hard-panniers, are meant as a luggage bag to put inside the hard-panniers. Specially ordered in from Europe, bought in Dec '05 @ S$240 for a pair.

All the above goes at S$1,100 Firm. Anyone interested pls contact me. TKS

It happen to me too. Find a small magnet and pull out the small bulb. Use the magnet to drag the screw to the front from the opening you can reach for the screw. Good luck.

I had a similiar problem too. Mine's a 2002 model so I can switch off the lights. When i turn on my small or main light....after travelling for awhile...the engine will suddenly go dead together with all the lights. Than when i try to start the bike can only hear the cranking sound...i also thought my batteries or recitifier went dead....but when i switch off my lights...my engine can start again......Next morning..when I start my bike...i turn on the headlights it works normally....the engine can start ..the bike can move....but after travelling for 20 mins...the same thing happened again....After i sent my bike to the bikeshop for a check up....the mechanics discovered a bunch of wires leading to my headlights got burnt thus causing ocassional short circuit when i turn on the headlights.....that whole bunch of wires cause $200 over bucks...gee......they have no idea what caused the burn..but oh well.....now its fine...hope it doesn't happen again

hi motobiker,

i normally dun on my headlights at all even at nite, i use the small positional light which i suppose is sufficient for SG road lamps condition, i guess our headlight is 2 bright n glaring 4 others road users..... u may need it if go M'sia

sent my bike to L**i's n the mechanic told me there is a VFR exact same problem as mine.... his bike was sent to Boon Siew twice 4 the troubleshooting but 2 no avail.... end up at L**i's..... it was believed that VFR/RVF have these electrical battery/Rectifier/Regulator long fault histories.....

even my previous RVF also made me change a few batteries n R/R within 2 years

they said my coil needs to b change n could only give me the quotation on Monday.... dunno how much damage its going cost this time round.....

really hope that Honda could improve on their Electrical part.....

Hi TourXcrosS,

Your bike could have the same problem as mine. Maybe you can try switching on your headlights(I had problems too when i on the small positional light but it took longer for the problem to appear) and see if you have the same symptoms as mine. I did thought that initially that my rectifier is down(as you mentioned, its kind of a common problem). I was so confident that I went down to the motorshop and told them to change to a new battery and rectifier(hahaha on my part). Than after their further diagnosis, than they told me its the wiring kenna burnt problem.

But well, since you are waiting for their reply..than I guess...hmmm let's wait for the outcome...hope you ain't gonna spend too much $$$ on it. Electrical problems are always the most headache ones....i understand how you feel......

Maxima Cool-aide. being a better heat conductor, it helps well. Temp might be still hot... but what tells the diff is when your are in "steady state" condition. The equilibrium state temp is much cooler., Worked for my VFR n the super egg frying R6 also...

wao... easy to get fine! by the way if the lights are adjusted to the correct height.. it wunt be blinding leh... the beam line should be just at the car boot lip when riding behind...

might be the batt... I had a similar prob, except bike does not die off when riding...coz even if resting voltage is healthy (12.3~12.9V) the cranking current might not be sustained anymore. The VFR somehow "eats" alotta current on cranking. the same batt cranks perfectly on the an R6!!

Ride hard & safe...
