wheres your 'dun think, just do it' mentality?

i always think first, hardly just do it.....

anyway i went for a H. Upmann No. 2 instead

a little dry on the wrapper presentation but the construction was fantastic lasting a 2 inch ash which was greyish black. a medium strong smoke which started very nutty and got richer and stronger down the middle. taste is not complex as with most H Upmann No. 2s. the spiciness kicked in only after midway as it lost it nuttiness replaced with dark chocolate overtones. burn was quite consistent to the last inch. very enjoyable though predictable.

the H Upmann No. 2 ranks side by side the Diplomaticos No. 2 on my personal list.

a splendid piramides size cigar!:thumb:

Happened to take a look at this thread and from the 1st page i was hooked..... kept reading on...... Was very impressed i must say....

Got a question abt smoking cigars thou.... when smoking the cigar, are we supposed to suck the cigar(sounds crude but couldn't think of another more descriptive word) or are we supposed to just place the cigar at our lips and just let the smoke diffuse into our mouth? Cos i know we are not supposed to inhale the smoke but do we purposely suck the smoke into our mouth or like asked above, allow the smoke to diffuse into our mouth?

Sorry for the long winded question.....heee

the smoke cannot diffuse into the mouth forever and the cigar will die if you dont "suck" it every 2 mins or so.

so yes you have to suck...

but the correct word is "draw"....

wooohoooo.....

tasting notes:-

light colored wrapper belies its strong character. a smooth even draw and burn which is accentuated by fine scents of cedar and cocoa beans. spicy at the start the Ex No. 4 slowly but surely mellows into its leathery fragrant slightly roasted caramel sweetness. evident of beautiful construction, the greyish ash stays a good 2 inches. the end was strong and powerful being an aged cigar, yet fulfilling such that a beginner smoker can appreciate.

Ok, heres the answer.

a premium cigar uses long filler leaves. these leaves run through the whole length of the cigar. genereally speaking good cigars have ash that holds longer. an experienced cigar smoker can maintain the ash up to 2 inches quite easily.

the RYJ ex No. 4 are very well constructed robusto size cigars.

My personal record for holding ash was done with an RYJ Exhibicion No. 4.

I almost smoked the whole cigar with the ash holding on.

The ash was more than 3 inches long....

and also, when smoking a cigar, one is not meant to tap the ash like a cigarette.

so next time try not to tap the ash every few puffs. with the ash on the cigar burns well and less hot, so it seems.

ash color is also a tell tale sign of the burn quality. teach you some other time.. heh heh

Hoho glad to hear that.

trinidad is expensive stuff, but the fundadores is an enjoyable smoke although the ring guage is small. I find the robusto extras tasting young. maybe in another 2 years time the Trinidad Robusto extras will be the top pick...

However, I do have some 1998 cigars and 2001 series Edicion Liitadas and 2003 Edicion Limitadas

maybe i should stock up one box every month ....evil grin...

cigars need to be stored in a humidor with the right temp and humidity.

it can be kept for many many many years.

pre revolution / pre embargo cuban cigars sell for a bomb. they are 40 - 50 yrs old

storing the cigars in the right condition ensures that they breathe and stay alive. the wrapper will secrete oils which give it a sheen and the aroma will greatly be enhanced, naturally the tastes will be more pronounced and richer...
