Hi fellow riders,

came across this interesting picture from a site. Not sure whether you guys seen it before. Anyways:

http://dontai.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/helmetcrashdiagram.gif

Its about the area of impact on helmets based on some motorcycle accident statistics.

Yours truly was suay enough to experience that some years back, and the full face chin area basically took the impact on behalf of the chin.

Helmet was scrapped, but that $150-$200 was minuscule peanuts compared to what might have been a bad, bad injury on the chin area.

quote

Interesting diagram shows the impact areas on crash-involved motorcycle helmets. (Source: Dietmar Otte, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Abteilung Verkehrsunfallforschung, Germany.)

Note that 35% of all crashes showed major impact on the chin-bar area. This means that if you ride with an open-face helmet, you are accepting only 65% of the protection that could be available to your head.

If people ride with a shorty or half helmet, they are accepting only 39% of the protection they could obtain. They are literally throwing away 61% of the protection they would have had had they chosen a full-face helmet.

I just wonder how many people will heed and take the necessary preventive action of getting a full face helmet to protect themselves.

Ever since the full face helmet was legalised... I have not owned an open face helmet.

I have crashed so far 25 times at the tracks... damaged the chin bar area of my helmets... but my face and all my teeth are still intact.

My fellow Bros and Sisters of the riding fraternity...please wear a full face helmet when riding... the facts are already provided by the threadstarter.

whao. i shall start wearing my full face helmets..

i got two FF at home but i only wear open face, cos firstly my bike can only hook open face helmets, i gotta carry my full face if i wear it. and secondly, singapore is hot and i dont like it when i cant air my whole face at the lights. thirdly, err maybe just me, but i think full face restricts my view..

however just one point the thread starter mentioned.. i think i'll wear full face more often. hopefully all the time. haha..

even i wear a flip face i still feel naked. Flip face is not as good as Full Face i should say. But im wearing a specs so it actually restrict me for wearing a Full Face. But some specy still wears full face. Good for them. Well at least i have minimum protection and at least more than an open face or worst when you see those with jockey's helmet as riding helmet. hmmm turban is the worst. (sorry not insulting but shouldnt they come out with something for that?)

If you are riding a GSR, you can invest in a good bicycle lock/ chain for the FF.

Basically you loop the chinbar and the handle bar together. I've never used helmet hooks on bikes. Filmsy and easy to cut/ steal.

I never carried my FFs when I go out. Been doing that lock + FF + handlebar way for years.

I have seen a Sikh rider with a visor somehow attached to his turban. :)

Spend abit more. Its your head. :)

Well, there are riders who prefer half faces helmets due to cost/ airy/ preference.

But do remember its airy for the simple reason that in a accident (statistics dont lie), the air might be replaced by tarmac coming at you at 70km/hr. :)

All said, its up to each individual to see what helmet they want.

Sh*t happens, and when that happened, I suppose you would rather be decked out in a good FF instead of that 3/4 plastic that would probably fail you.

Ride safe. (But you will never know if the car next to you got some funny ideas.) :)

as long theres PSB , it shld ok ...

What is PSB?

Is it recognised as a world wide authority for helmets? Do all the full face helmets used by the riders in the MotoGP and WSBK come with the PSB sticker?? I wonder if Valentino Rossi's helmet come with a PSB sticker? o_O

for years i thought i would never wear a FF because it would be too hot in sg weather..

but when i took the plunge n bought my 1st FF, i found that actually it is not as hot as some imagine.

(if the weather is hot, u'll be hot even in a open face)

just a little not as well ventilated as an open face, but once u get moving its ok.

somehow i feel safer in a FF as well.

never gonna wear another open face again.

not gonna be a gear-nazi, cos there are a few occassions i ride around in slippers for short trips..

but well at the end of the day its ur choice.

Well...they can choose which they want to throw away.

The skin and flesh from their jaw and chin area or their nice set of front teeth.

Its only either these or the open face helmet.

A friend of mine lost all his front teeth and split open his chin in a 40 kmh lowside because of diesel on the road while turning left at a junction.

I believe some of the electric bicycles go as fast as 40 kmh. :faint:

this is good to convince newbies to get ff.

anyway, is it harder for people to steal your helmets if you use the handle bar lock method?

i scared people go sabo, throw cigarette, spit inside. it happened to my friends. low lifes.

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Well, the lock is a preventive measure, as with all security means.

If you invest in a good lock, it should deter the casual lame f8ck, though not 100% lah. :)

Been locking helmets to my bikes for years w/o any incident.

Its a balance between convenience and a pinch of risk.

Just lock it, and arm the bike alarm. Then go shopping, walking around, movie without that cumbersome 1.5Kg helmet on the back/ hand.

:)
