Not that I have come across HID kit on cruiser. I guess the nakedness of our cruiser is pretty difficult to store the HID kit. Areas I could think of are under the seat, side panel and headlamp provided there is amble spacing in the mentioned areas. Another concern would be the size of the ballast, which cruiser model are you riding by the way?

U can install the ballast under the seat ! Btw wat kind of bulbs do u guys use ?

:cheeky:

I am using 3 piece projector and 2 piece halogen bulbs.

For Shadow Ace, it should be running on H4 halogen bulb thus, you could just change to white bulb. However, please double check with mechanic on the exact size since it has been a while since I last own the Shadow Ace.

Cheers!

Done! But space constraints make the bike a bit more bulkier.

Brand unknown. Results? So far so good. A lot wider and even the signboard from a far is litted up. I forgot to take note of the road markers if it can be seen, but then again, I can see the lanes of the roads a lot more clearly.

Johan, your bike uses a H4 bulb type. and so the H4 HID bulb type also rite? make sure there is a metal plate at the bottom of the HID bulb to prevent the HID from acting as a hi beam always.

the metal plate at the bottom prevents light from shining onto the bottom of the headlamp casing which will den reflect upwards.

HID is good, but it shld be used responsibly. if u r unsure of wat im saying, i can draw out a pic for u :D

No more regrets.

**To promote responsibility for HID users. **

Let us have a look at a H4 bulb. 1st case, lo beam

http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/1876/loxn0.jpg

you shlf have noticed that there is a small metal cap under the lo beam filament. this is to avoid beams from throwing upwards. confused? read the next post :)

now the 2nd case, hi beam

http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/374/hibeamst6.jpg

u can clearly see that the naked filament (which is the hi beam filament) produces light that is reflected everywhere in the headlamp casing, causing light beams to be thrown upwards, and downwards ---> function of hi beam met.

Hence, for your H4 HID, make sure there is a metal cap that prevents the HID from being "hi beam always". else, it is going to irritate many many rd users which i dun wish to see.

a case whereby a H4 HID bulb is manufactured correctly, with a metal cap under the HID bulb.

notice that the H4 HID bulb type has a metal cap. again, this is to prevent the HID bulb from being "hi beam always"

u may den ask this question

Q: how about other HID bulb types like H7 which do not have a metal cap. wouldnt it mean that they are always on "hi beam" ?

A: other Bulb types have only 1 filament. they are either acting as lo beam or hi beam AND this depends on the design of the headlamp casing. for eg. CBR600RR 2003. the right side is H7 acting as lo beam due to headlamp casing's design. the left side however, (which ) is H7 acting as hi beam due to headlamp casing's design.

Q: Den why is there a need for H4 bulbs?

A: dun ask me, ask menufacturers :p anyway, bikes like super 4 and shadow 750, they are using single headlamp. as such, the headlamp casing is designed as hi beam. Hence, the only way to prevent hi beam and produce lo beam would be using H4 bulb (which has the small metal cap under the lo beam's filament) as explained earlier on

No more regrets.

This is the correct way of manufacturing a H4 HID hi/lo bulb

there are other H4 bulb types which are manufactured wrongly i.e w/o the metal cap. so i hope u guys can use HID responsibly.

No more regrets.

thanks paiseh for the highly informative explaination.....

so johan.... i assuming u do not ahve a issue with toggling hi/low beams?

or is that a silly question.

wats the damage? and is the installation easily reversible......

for H4 HID, when u on headlamp (which means lo beam), your HID lights up. when u hi beam, by right, the HID auto ceases and the halogen lights up.

No more regrets.

 let say if the headlens is frosted glass, then having the metal or not doesn't really matter, cos the light is diffused by the frosted glass.

:btw: Paiseh when u free to come out for friendly meetup for nasi lemak or A&W? I wana let u study my HIDs lights see need any further improvement or not

aiyah! i think some engineers in philips, hella and osram deserve to be sack! they have super-duper degrees, phd and decades of manufacturing experience also useless. simple thing like adding reflective plate at the bulb also dunno, make their company produce bulb "wrongly" and sabo millions of their customer by making them irresponsible road users.

then again, maybe they already know, but still go ahead with that "wrong design" because that will make high beam to shine "higher"? these people dunno that "High beam" is suspose to shine low lah... if not bad for other road users.

i alway wonder why the headlight reflector is bowl-shape and not cyclinder/tube shape like what paiseh draw. i use to think that maybe that shape helps to "concentrate" the light from the bulb to a more accurate direction. then again, maybe the headlight manufacturer also "manufacture wrongly"... paiseh confirm have better design! more considerate, more futuristic!

i think ah... having a reflective plate on a bulb is a solid and useful idea for headlight with cyclinders/tube type of reflector lah... but i think quite useless for those "wrongly manufactured" bowl shape relector. wasted siah... if those headlight manufacturer and those overpaid, phds bulb designer never realized their mistake, this great hid bulb can oni be use as a marketing gimmick to differentiate themselve from the rest of the true hid market now.

i am very sad that such a good and futuristic design like that go wasted...
