i alway wonder why the headlight reflector is bowl-shape and not cyclinder/tube shape like what paiseh draw. i use to think that maybe that shape helps to "concentrate" the light from the bulb to a more accurate direction. then again, maybe the headlight manufacturer also "manufacture wrongly"... paiseh confirm have better design! more considerate, more futuristic!

i think ah... having a reflective plate on a bulb is a solid and useful idea for headlight with cyclinders/tube type of reflector lah... but i think quite useless for those "wrongly manufactured" bowl shape relector. wasted siah... if those headlight manufacturer and those overpaid, phds bulb designer never realized their mistake, this great hid bulb can oni be use as a marketing gimmick to differentiate themselve from the rest of the true hid market now.

i am very sad that such a good and futuristic design like that go wasted...

hahahahahahah u gave me a good laugh in the morning (esp your english )!

its pretty obvious im simplifying my drawings, dude. u can do your research around, all H4 HID bulbs have the metal piece beneath them called, shields.

thanks paiseh for the highly informative explaination.....

so johan.... i assuming u do not ahve a issue with toggling hi/low beams?

or is that a silly question.

wats the damage? and is the installation easily reversible......

adriel

Well, put it this way, there's a slight problem, but dun worry, the low beam is good enough. The HID one, ah, can really flood all 4 lanes of the highway

 yo paiseh, u should take ur this light to do some practical hardcore testing like i do. I dun believe wat the seller says everytime. Cos they are in sales mah. Everything also can say. Mouth is theirs. Talk is cheap.

So for me i usually test out all those HIDs colours temp for long distance ride tat i install on my scooty. To find if got any discolouration after 12hours of burn in time. And also any stability issue whether will flicker or not.

If really not up to standard or below specs like wat the seller claim to be so good, i sure will go back fook him upside down. But so far mine is ok. So he haven kena fa rk by me yet. o_O

One of these days i would go find a lux level meter to measure the lumens, if below specs, the seller sure die..... heh heh heh.....

i tried b4 liao. w/o the metal cap, the HID shines wider,(shine all the tress etc etc) very much wider.

with the metal cap, the HID dun shine very wide but it is sort of more focused, it shines forward more and hence the "forward light" is brighter, clearer.

as mentioned in the pictures, with the metal cap, u can see vividly that more light is reflected downwards, forward instead of upwards, which is your hi beam la! :hungry:

Ok, here goes. My HID bulb at work. It proves, it's brighter and wider. These was experimented from my home with the lights off and about 2 metres away.

this is how far I measured with a light meter

and

the result in lux (the unit for light measurement) from 2 metres away.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i136/gohjohan/P3290869_resize.jpg

The reading on my original bulb (Philips) with high beam.

Taken from the same distance of 2 metres away.

Conclusion: HID is a lot brighter than the original bulb. Colour temperature plays a part too 'cos the whiter (or cooler) the light, the less the reading.

cool. i have used this b4 but the lux meter i used can only measure up to 1000 lux. and this meter is only used to measure lightings in MRT station, staircase, office, lifts (to ensure there is enough lighting, safety purposes). a typical lift (up to 10 people) is around 200 lux. for office, is around 300 - 500 lux.

but using this to measure headlight.. hmm.. not really accurate (lumen machine is a better choice) but the idea is there la. upz for the effort.

No more regrets.

Clarity on the road never looks weird ;) Having not seen something on the road and running over it will make you feel weird instead  I wonder when the "cruisers" are going to be retrofitted with such safer lights
