Does anyone else think the 50 post required for Garage sale posting as excessive?

The SBF management has also frantically awarded one infraction warning to Angel Rider for clocking posts.

You know it aren't worth much. People can open multiple accounts and log in from multiple places. SBF should rethink their policy rather than penalize TS who has little better alternatives. No need so frantic

I think you have to know, we are not enforcing these rules because "we like it" or "because it's fun", in fact it gives us a lot of work. These very rules serve to help protect our members from scammers and spammers. You might want to check out some other less moderated forums and look at the number of scammers / spammers in there. The objective of the rules are to help ensure safe buying and selling in SBF.

As for clones, we have our methods to find out, is it really worth the trouble of logging in from different places, opening multiple accounts, changing mobile and contact numbers frequently for other than malicious reasons?

Yes, we do understand that there are GENUINE new members who require to post. For that, please refer to this thread.

You guys got to see the bigger peekture. You guys are thinking of yourself only. Think about the job of the moderators and how much crap they have to do.

Same thing as, lets say, the police force. Aunty call, need police assistance instantly because her neighbour noisy, police come 30 mins, scold them cause too late, then make complaint.

But aunty don't see that maybe got more important cases like some crazy ***** wanna "skydive", road jam like siao or some idiot whacking a guy on the ground with his helmet.

You come this forum, follow and play by the rules. You live in Singapore, government tell you need licence to drive on the road, you got to follow. If not, you can always do it somewhere else. Same concept here. Govt wants you to be fully trained before you go on the road. Same here, admins needs to protect the rest of us against spammers, cheaters, botters, scammers and not to mention the extra resources wasted such as bandwidth, storage space etc.

Moral of the story? Look at the bigger picture and stop thinking only about yourself. This is a community and we do what we can together to protect one another within this glorious community which we call Singapore Bike Forums.

hm but i think by getting friends with accounts to post the sale threads, the accountability issue will be even worse

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

Some of us join this forum to look at other people's posts and sales, and to better understand the current market prices of certain bikes and items... Although we don't post much, we have been around for a long time. (and learnt a lot from fellow forumites too!) So I don't see why we still need the 50-post requirement to post new threads.

In fact, as someone had mentioned, this restriction may even backfire when genuine users wanting to sell their bikes use their friend's account to post.

I think it would be better to change the restriction to EITHER 1) at least 1 month + 50 posts OR 2) 6 months/1 year. I am sure those that have joined for more than 6 months and still have not clocked 50 posts would not anyhow spam threads. (OP is perfect example.)

i agree but it is possible that some people create clone accounts, leave them idle for months and/ or post clock before using them to scam our members and create a lot of unhappiness ; inconvenience. if our forum members could come up with better ideas to help us mods manage this problem, please do so, it would be very much appreciated.

Hmmm. Then maybe it's possible to check the "Last Login Date" to make sure the accounts are not idle for months?

Or maybe, if a user with

I thought of that and other ideas but all of them require manual validation on the moderator end as aforesaid.

If the current system works leave it be; once you start gossiping on SBF, you can't stop - 10 posts a day and you're done in a week :D
