What do you do with the monthly Pioneer magazine?

I've ORDed for abt roughly 3-4 years plus now and i have a whole stack of unopened Pioneer magazine.. For those who have yet to serve NS or havent ORD, you will 'subscribe' to Pioneer magazine by default or HomeNS magazine if you're in CD/SPF.

 

I have an idea though (before they go to the recycle bin).

 

I cut the clear plastic holder and place my work documents in them before discarding the magazine.

 

I once played a prank to my friend - wrapping the magazine up and presenting into a birthday present. But of course i had a real birthday present behind the scenes. His w.t.f + pissed off reaction was priceless, man!

I receive my HTNS mags only 4 times a year. Been receiving ever since enlisted, even after ORD still receive. Maybe SAF too much money waste their time printing for you guys every month?

u can reply them to unsubscribe. Since u are not reading it, it's better to save some papers

I tried using them as toilet paper.

But apparently the print quality was so poor that my left ass cheek got the SAF crest stuck on it. Had to wash/wipe it off.

 

So now I just trash that crap. Back to normal toilet paper. Besides, it doesn't really feel very absorbent in the first place.

The month I ORDed, I immediately called the magazine to terminate my subscription. Pioneer Mag continues to deduct money from your POSB account even after you ORD for the magazine. It is not free. The conversation went something like this.

 

Me: I want to terminate subcription

CSO: Ok. May I know why you want to terminate it?

Me: Coz I never read it.

CSO: Oh, so you seldom read it, is that it?

Me: No. I never read it at all.

CSO: Oh ok i'll process your request.

Me: (had a mental image of the Pioneer mag lining my waste paper basket for every issue)

 

This Pioneer mag sucks money from every active NSF and reservist who mostly do not opt out. They do this to stay afloat. Because if they sell it at mag stands they won't survive. No one will read the crap they write.

Quite cheap if im not wrong, few dollar per year. But still it is money.

Its pretty tricky, they auto subscribed when you enlisted. And they hid the facts that ppl continue to subscribe even after they ORD. Not many ppl know can unsubscribe, of course, most do not know their money is deducted for this auto-subscribed magazine.

I tried giving Pioneer magazines (as gift-wrapped presents) to my new colleague who is a former OC in a company and the angry expression on his face was priceless man!
