How has riding increased or decreased your monthly costs of commuting?

What's the difference between the amounts you spent on transport before and after you started riding, assuming riding is now your primary form of transport?

 

(My public transport costs hover around $100 assuming I rely exclusively on buses and the MRT all month. Throw in the occasional unavoidable taxi ride and my monthly expenditure rises to around $150.)

In terms of hard cash expenditure, taking in insurance, running costs, servicing, probably much more than taking MRT.

But in terms of the time saved, the freedom to go about anywhere, and the smiles the bike gave, its more than worth every single cent.

Riding Ta200 has save me alot of $$$ + time for the past 1.5years.... i top up my $20 ezlink card lasted me less then a week..

 

Petrol full tank $16 can last me 1 week 4 days

actually the exp thing is the insurance + road tax but then overall it really saves time travelling around. If you don't really wack a lot, for me I don't really wack a lot so petrol wise is ok.

Assuming you settle payment of the bike, insurance and road tax early on, it seems like riding won't cost significantly more than public transport right?

 

I just can't stand paying for public transport when it's not only slow and uncomfortable but also not all that cheap in the first place. Nearly fainted once when the taxi driver asked me for $30.

If my bike gets stolen, this is a loss of several hundred euro, so using the public transport is definitely cheaper. But I save money for the gym, so it is a bit neutralized ;-).

It depends on the bike. Phantom being a workhorse is a definite money saver provided you can nab one in good condition.

 

I hate squeezing in the MRT (yes there is a facebook group for that) and the way people have no respect for modesty. Being a road warrior has made my life much better

 

I even like to purposely go very slow in heavy traffic (the cars got used to me already. It's nice!) so my fuel consumption is like... super low. If I can get 45km/l doing time attacks in the dead of night, lord knows what this engine of mine is getting at 50kph and 1,500rpm

 

Why should I pay $4 a day to squeeze in sardine can, huh!?
