Hi guys, thanks for all your input. It's good to know that the Wave can do well on the highway. I've got suggestions for Varadero and Africa Twin but I think those are mucho $$$ and a few years away (cl 2).

Thai_R - there should be an Iron Butt category for Wave riders too! For offroad.. I was thinking of Golden Triangle but still have to pass thru Malaysia N/S higway. I'm thinking that the "commonness" of the bike is a good thing because parts should be easily available even in small towns if there's a need for repairs.

Are there FantaPower or Johnny Walker gas stations in Thailand?

http://www.cambodiaroadtrip.com/gallery/cambodia/big/fantapower.JPG

Yeah the best thing about the Wave/Cubs is the availibity of parts throughout this region.

No fanta/johhy walker kiosk....but barrel stations are plenty in the kampong side..

Iron Butt ??

I thought of it....for the lowest cat....it's 24hr and 1600km....

That means we have to cover from Sg to Hua Hin in under 24hr on our cub....

Not impossible but.....very tense...On a Super 4 i could easily do it....But Wave....

Maybe someday.....

Cheers !

I always told this to my friends who ask this type of questions about Scooter reliablilty and suitability!

Just look at those cub-kias from Malaysia.

Everyday without fail, the bikes are ridden at high speed from Malaysia to Singapore and back. Some are so lok-kok and yet you can see them 'flying' off the red-light like no tomorrow.

If you got the time, talk to some malaysian riders. Get their feedbacks.

I am sure you will be SURPRISED how reliable a Honda Wave/Scooter can be!!!

don worry dude, u can trust this honda cub !

Every month I make a trip from SG back to segamat with my 8 months old Wave-i. Sport rim with tubeless tyre is important. Travellar in mud -no problem, back to Segamat I will use this bike traveller in/out rubber plantation. To and fro ~450km per trip. But my bike speed is low only can go ~95km/h max. FZ plate.. FC ~57km/L.

Start from 2nd link make 1 stop at Machap after that direct to home. Not much worry Honda cup can do well on highway and lasting.

Been riding up thailand many times. Personally find tat day ride is safer (especially w/ cubs) as there'r lots of Schumacher 2-be during nite.. :giddy:

:cheeky: Sorry,my apology. What i meant is that honda cub is a very long lasting cub even after so many years.

I presume that the indian newspaper honda cub milage is more than travelling to thailand.

All bikes can be highway worthy and can last a long time if properly maintained, regularly serviced and ridden within it's capacity.

9. Sadao Border ETA 2030H ETD 2100H

10. Check in hotel ETA 2230H

This is what i gathered n modified from e info from other Hatyai threads. Just do for a rough idea first.

We will stop more often n rest abit longer during e hot afternoon period (Stops 4 and 5).

Total time take from white house to hotel is 16 hrs. Is it realistic? Or too long?

There's like alot of stops but dont think our X1 can travel above 200km on a full tank. Will bring along a 4L metal can of petrol just in case.

Will there be jams like Singapore at the thai border?

Erm everything can? Or start earlier? Or later?

Shall do the south bound one next time if e north bound one is alright.

Q. What are the things & documents i have to prepared..?

A. Bring only what you need & money. A copy of vehicle registration card is require to declare ownership of your bike before entering the kingdom of Thailand. The carbon copy of the vehicle import chit is to be well kept & must return before leaving Sadao, a penalty fee would be required if it's misplaced or failure to returned during your stay from your visit to Thai again before entry. A small endorse fee of rm1 or 20baht is payable for each passport. To avoid unneccessary delays at custom, prepared with all the above.
