  1. 1. What do you and ur pillion do when it rains heavily?

    • You wear the rain gear, your pillion can get wet
    • Your pillion wears the rain gear, you get wet
    • Wait for the rain to stop
    • Take public transport home

yesterday was d heaviest downpour i ever rode in on PIE ard bt. timah area.. traffic was at max 40km/h and visibility was so bad, i didn't even dare to stop at the shoulder, fearing someone riding on it..

so carried on and making sure im always in front of a vehicle wif hazard lights on.. cux our phantoms don hv it.. but im planning to fix them up soon! makes a lot of difference in riding in low visibility conditions!

Yea all riders please ride safe, remember to double your stopping distance and that your brakes are half as effective..

Brake (ideally) gradually and intermittently, refrain from jamming the rear bike as there is high chance of fish tailing, not only for cruisers, every body else too.

If visibility and road conditions are too poor, please stop at bike stops, do avoid shoulders if possible as heavy vehicles do stop there at times.

Ride safe

CHoose to public transport when rain..Fallen once during wet road, nv dare to ride fast ( below 80km/h, also making wide turn =.=)

i fell a few times on my phantom, most less than 50km/h. maybe 1 or 2 almost come to a complete stop already then fall. when i got up i was checking what went wrong with my bike, not checking if i had any bad injuries on myself, cos the fall was like my last bicycle fall. -.-'

so ride safe people. ride more, get more experience on the road, be it dry or wet road. if you dont intend to gain experience on wet road at all, then be prepared to take public transport whenever it rains even if you are riding halfway to your journey. at the same time, dont get complacent just cause you have more experience.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Practical Test Checklist:

√ Sudden and late braking

√ Faulty signal lights

√ Superb use of horn

√ Assume road belongs to father

√ Never at fault no matter what happens

√ Tailgating confidence

I dont why everyone says phantom skids when it rains. I never had any problem. May be because my rear brakes are not that powerful, it actually feels like drum brakes and not disk brakes haha. So Its my front brakes that are always used.

While making turn I make sure I am dead slow before the turn so that I dont ahve to jam brakes while turning. That would kill you. Also while turning dont lean down try to be as vertical as possible.

You follow these steps and you can ride the phantom rain or shine :thumb:

yup.. check ur rear brakes guys.. wif a good tyre and a serviced rear brake, i nv had a locked rear wheel.. even under hard braking.. good pads allows u to maximize, yet control d braking much better.. but pls pls, use more of ur front brakes.. i recently upgraded my front brake pump to a old model cb400 one i ordered from ebay.. much much stronger n responsive braking..

do fix up hazard lights! damn useful! be it in break down or rain. cheap too!

already did, and THANKFULLY, not have to used it much, other than stopping at d side of d road to drop off or fetch someone... i even upgraded my rear signals to larger n brighter super 4 ones.. definitely better in d low visibility conditions..

DIY bro.. bought them off ebay... since i had to relocate my signals wen i fix my sideboxes, i figured i might as well go for sumting brighter and not the typical round signals...

Hmmm have been riding phantom for about 1.5mths now. Been thru rain and shine, heavy rain, traffic jam etc. So far have only wheel locked once, but that was on a hot weather with dry road. I locked my tire because i over estimated my speed and the car infront of me had already stopped and i was coming down from a slope of a small hill. I used my rear brakes quite alot and lesser of my front brake. I realise its just a short distance before i hit the car infront and i stepped the rear brake harder, end up locking the tire. From this i learnt that phantom is quite a heavy bike for 2B. IMO it requires quite abit of braking distance. If your hard on the brakes you can lock up your rear even on dry grounds. Wet weather havent experience any tire locking.

Bro, phantom does require more braking seriously. Have to use engine braking often.:))

Cheers.

Always practice quick downshifting. This is opposite of what they taught u in driving school. I agree wif them that wen u panic n brake n downshifting, they afraid u end up clutching in all the way and totally no engine brake.

However, I always practice downshifts to the extent that wen i e-brake, i naturally downshift quickly and it becomes part of my reflex when i panic e-brake. Saved myself a couple of times dat way. If 100% just on brakes, kiss bumper liao. :(

would u mean that u let go the clutch faster when u try to down shift faster? or a clutchless downshift? (not that it sounds appealing)

I meant downshift, let go clutch, downshift, let go clutch, repeat until stop lor. So i make use of the engine braking in every gear.

Here's what i do too:

3 fingers on brake, 2 fingers on trottle, i brake and rev match at the same time to downshift. Otherwise if just downshift(braking at the same time) without rev match, if done improperly can crunch your gears, not good. A few times i did that. Thats when high speed braking.

Dats blipping d throttle wen downshifting. Used for racing. I would say it is almost impossible to do so during an e-brake. Wen u panic, doubt u hv d precision to do dat. To slow down, actually downshifting as per normal is better in terms of cutting down speed.

Actly u wont rly crunch gears. Wen engine speed doesnt match, probably ur rear wheel just spins faster and u lose rear stability. Dats y racers dont use this technique. :) but well to each his own.

i do that also for engine braking but usually i dont really apply much brake so it takes a bit of time to slow down unless im in a hurry to meet the stopping target. probably must make some changes to make the engine brake down shifting more faster.

usually i try 2 get the engine revs down enough so that is a comfortable shift instead.. of cos that one is leisurely slowing down..

usually if i rev match during kick down is for power chionging out of !@#$ situations..

if high speed braking if rev match i got phobia of over running my target distance leh! lol

like that if u got only a short distance to brake, got enough time to go thru the gears if your 2 seconds to impact? (assuming following distance rule already failed)

When i rains I just ride!

If really have to stop in a life and death situation, I just E-Brake with front and back brakes. If got time, kick down without clutching in.

Better to wear the clutch out then to die right? :giddy:

true! technical question though.. why ppl say kick down without clutching in kills the clutch? i thought if u dont disengage the clutch how come will have wear leh? i always thought that it was the transmission that will get the shock instead..
