Hi,

I'd like to go on touring trips with my friends but every time i raise the issue, my parents have a fit. the last time i bought this up, the fight went on for more than a day.

It's ridiculous, the only reason why i can still go on day trips is that they dont know about it.

but it kind of sucks not being able to stay overnight.

anyone has any ideas on how to convince the parents?

same situation as me...

the only way i can think of is to set up elaborate con sequences

e.g. before the tour, tell dad "hey im flying to phuket with some friends, we're gg backpacking"

then slowly smuggle all ur stuff to ur office, e.g. clothes or whatever

then on the day of the tour, u say, "dad i'm gg to leave my bike at the airport so that i can ride it home after the trip"

then ride the bike to your office, pack ur bags and meet up with your friends

but the whole idea seems a bit silly to me... would prefer that my dad knows what is gg on

not to mention that u will end up taking more risks sneaking around than if everyone knows whats happening

these kind of issue best not to sneak round bends and corners... touch wood la, if something really happened during the trip, and dad finds out im lying to him... how will he feel? trust and understanding are equally important.

1. Dont lie to your parents.

2. Because if anything bad were to happen to you during touring, the organiser will kanna big time from them.

3. One way or another, bearing the guilt for not taking good care of you during touring is heavy enough already.

4. Even though touring requires everyone to take care of each other, as an organiser and lead bike. When things go very wrong, the feeling inside the heart and mind is torturing and breaking.

5. If you are going day trips often, do buy additional travel insurance. When we are down, we dont want our parents or loved ones to go down with us either.

I was leading a group of 17 bikes with 5 pillions to Mersing Aye Papan, i was on high alert and always make sure the convoy stays intact. My wife will help to monitor the rear traffic and let me know if the convoy is intact or breaking up. The thought of having total of 22 lives entrust in my hands are scary. Give them some time, they will open when you are older. ^_^

Well its really a sh!tty situation you have i actually pity you. Well jokes aside, its really best not to lie.

I have a fren whom parents doesnt even knw he riding for the past 10 years at least and he went all the way to thai.

Suggestion for you is to talk thru your parents. Since they dun allow, tell them wat you will do. They will end up rather let you go for the trip.

Letting them knw wat you will do meaning be frank with them that you have intension to lie to them for a trip. Then ask them would you want me to lie to you or to go with your consent?

Mabbe take a day trip or 2 day trip. Tell them you try for a shorter trip. then slowly they will find nothing wrong.

Then buy them some stuff from there and pamper them.

And if this dun work, meaning that they dun consent, then there is another way.

When you are in the short day trip, buy something that you cant find in MY with MY price tag.

Then tell them you already go to MY for trip. Hahahaha.... take a trip that you are confident you will be safe and in 1 piece.

In that way you are not lying to them, you are proving to them that you can make it.

I dunno if it works on your parent. but i find the being frank part if they knw wat you mean, they will usually give in. let them knw that you love them and want them to have a blessing and consent. Just like marrying a girl. I think they will understand.

Wish you best of luck bro. It sucks to stay riding in SG.

Maybe you can try convince your dad to go on a short trip with you.

Please convince him its fun. Maybe he'll join you.

The only reason why I'm not laughing with you is that I prefer laughing at you.

Since you cannot fulfill the basic and the most important part of the deal to go touring, SAFETY. Then you cannot blame them ma. You already lose your dealing chip already. If my son/daughter go touring without my approval and got injured, I would do the same thing as what your parent has done. Trust is lost. It will take time to rebuilt.

Btw ahcai called you sis. Bernard called you bro. R u bro or sis ah?

sigh i wont go into details about the accident and who is at fault cause i suppose it does not make a difference

i would have told them tt i was gg except that they did not accept it.

so i suppose it is a gone case alr

Ohayo, why u keen to know if TS is bro or sis ?? As for TS .. nvr ever lie to parent, what u can do is buy all protective gears u can to prove to ur parent u are serious into riding and safety comes first. U have to prove to them safety and committed about riding. else maybe other got better ideas ??

Parents sometimes, never realised their children had grown up and think they are a kid despite going into 20s or even 30s. So, have to be more assetive and have a stand. It may be rough, but that may be the only way to break through their conception.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

You might try go buy the very comprehensive insurance which include private jet back if anything happens... But this insurance is just for you for your bike must tow back which may cost quite a sum...

Insurance most of the time gives people the ease of the mind..

P.S. Dont ask me how much the price but the regular travel insurance cost $300+ a yr.... (If I remember correctly)

Selling JBL amplifier

Actually it doesn't matter if you have bought all the safety gears or whatever comprehensive insurance. All this doesn't stop the accident from happening. It just makes an accident better. I think your parent is more concern on you getting into accident in the 1st place.

For my case, I heck care them. I just go as I like. After a while, they will mellow down. I'm not telling you to be a unfillial child, it just that you have to let them know you have grown up. Decision lies on you. As for your part, you just need to ride responsibily thats all.

just go. ride safe. keep them updated along the way. live with the negativity for the start.

no point arguing. parents will eventually learn to let go. its tough for parents because kids are so very precious. but at some point, we all have to let our kids grow and be independent.
