It's the same for all bikes. Even in neutral, your bike will have a slight difference in tone when clutched in, and clutched out.

Unless you're hearing slight tapping noises, or a bit or rattling when you throttle and release. That tapping noise you hear means you might need to do a valve clearance soon. Done by adding shims, as Tyrael has said, to ensure that your valves are all aligned. For the "chain inside the engine", that would be the timing chain. The timing chain is basically the chain connects your cams to the crank. After a period of time, all chains will lengthen. The engine has a chain tensioner there to compensate for the slack, but even then, the chain will eventually deteriorate to the point that it will still slap along its route. That's when a replacement is necessary.

But since you're gonna pop open your top-end to do a valve clearance, you might as well go for the full monty and have the timing chain replaced too. The chain is not expensive. The workmanship is. So do all together will save you moolah in the long run.

Ahhhh Thanks, just got a touch of enlightenment. Fully understand what he is talking about now. Then like that more or less confirm gotta push bike into hospital liao.

Not sure whether it's normal for 01' R1s, there is, for my case, some rattling noise when the engine is idling. Will listen closer when I throttle and release.

Thanks again!

Some people measure their adventures in miles or days. I prefer "lamp posts".

I think a slight rattling is normal for Yamahas after a little while. U should hear the FJR1300. Rattles too. But if the rattling gets too loud, then go check it out.

300... whole set ar? Front and rear? Still a lil steep.

Hahaha... LV. What to do. Branded.

Just like comparing an X-Strom or GPR suit for $600-$700 and a Dainese suit for $4000. How?

300-400 for valve clearance and changing the timing chain sound alright. Make sure they get all the right stuff in. Ensure they change the gasket too. Some shops actually try to replace back the bloody old gasket....

Since we are on the topic of brake hose prices, any recommandations?

Was looking at hel and venhill.

I mean all steel braided, any BIG diff in performance/durablity? If no big diff will just get the one with the most bang for bucks.

240 material price 2*front, 1*rear

Checked HKL's webby, 200 for a pair + installation, so most prob front only, not sure if they have the rear, maybe send a rfq to ah bee later for front rear material price only.
