Hey fellow riders,

 

I'm riding a spark 110 at the moment, quite new to it. (as in not much experience about the bike) Recently i cant electric start my bike anymore, everytime must kick start then can start the bike. What might be the problems with it? the spark plug? rectifier?

 

And what is the standard full service for a spark 110z? what is the period? e.g. 1 year, 6mth etc

Perhaps u will like to discrbe more on the symptoms?

 

eg. when key is turn on. press starter button, got any cranking sound or no soound?

When kickstart idling, the headlight got light flickers?

Suspect battery no power and/or starter carbon finish already liaooooo

Yamaha SparkZ 110 (2004 to 2008)

Yamaha X1-R 135 (June 2008 to Feb 2009)

Gilera ST Runner 200 (Feb 2009 to I dun knw...:confused:)

when the key is turned on, no power at all, e.g no light at the neutral and cant even press the start button. Then when i on the headlight, the light at the gear indicator become dim.

Batt dead. that is a comfirm. I hope ur rectifier and starter still ok. How long has this been going on? Not more than 1 month I hope?

 

First stage. Test batt first. see volatge. borrow charger from friend to charge up the batt. See can charge up.

 

If not, get a decent brand batt from AH boy (Made in china Yuasa is still better than Chap parang brand) and change.

 

Then get a volt meter and do the rectifier and stator test.

 

This is what u need to do:

 

MAke sure the batt is fully charge before installation.

 

Batt reading when engine is not running should be No less than 12.8Volt. this means batt is ok and charged

 

Start engine. Voltage measure should be 13v with headlight on. 13.5 with headlight off. Should not be lower than 12.8V, Lower means stator coil failing.

 

If everything is good. rev ur bike to 4000rpm and above. voltage will climb and stop at 14.5V. More than 15.5 volt mean rectifier gone.

 

A failing batt will wear out the rectifier.

 

A failing rectifer will kill ur batts , electric starter and stator coil.

 

I got 1 case of leaving the failing batt alone. end up burning my stator coil, rectifier and starter .

 

So please get ur bike fixed.

think best to go down to a bike shop ba. could be what black comet had mention or maybe your batt not charging due to coil problem

But we are in beautiful Singapore and we have one more option for TS to try, just go somewhere with a trusted mechanic and say 'AIYOH, SPOIL ALREADY AHHH!!!' Act well enough and the mechanic will even lol at you, giving you discount and free diagnosis :D

Sometimes, it's better that u are able to diagnost the problem before sending to bike shop. Cos u know already. get the mech to double comfirm. and then change.

 

If not some bike shop are famous in asking u to change stuff that are not needed.

 

There's 1 case I heard. Actually pretty similar to mine.

 

Batt dead just charge. The batt apparently can't really hold charge.

 

So the bike charging system is constantly charging the batt once it's running. The rectifier got worn out.

 

Initially, owner thou batt is dead. Just change new yuasa batt. Charge up.

 

Bike still cannot start. Being typical layman. Can crank but no engine running. so just crank longer. end up the bike emmit smokes and still no go.

 

Tow bike.

 

Bike shop comfirm stator coil and starter motor burn. change.

 

Change already still same problem. Ride a few days. cannot start and repeat cranking and got smoke again. so tow.

 

Check. again burn stator and starter. batt also up lorry half way.

 

This time round he ask me. I analyse and ask him to get the rectifier checked.

 

True enough. rectifier gone already. thats why never limit the voltage. also his continuous cranking must be like super long that he burn the starter.

 

Moral of the story. diagnost the full problem. get a second opinion and then get it fixed.

 

never leave a small problem unattended.

 

The case above. It's original problem is just a batt that cost 65.

 

But leave unattended. end up it cost 2 stator coil, 2 starter. 2 batts and 1 rectifier.
