Bro sorry may I ask how do you find the bike coming from a kawa? Yours is PML bike?

 

Prior to the RT was riding a gtr1400, powerwise no comparison to the kawa. Comfort and electronics, the RT wins hands-down. Still at 400 plus mileage only the RT. Still restricted to less than 5000 rpm. Mine is a PI from Speedway.

I help or advise from you, My 2010 BMW F650GS lately everytime i switch off the ignition, the clock will tends to stay at the time when i off the ignition which i need to keep setting the clock again & again. I have tried the following,

1) Replacement new battery

2) Addition earthing connected to battery.

 

Till now still no idea what i can do??

You mentioned 'lately' in your post. Do you recall any of the following just before you started experiencing this?

1) washing the bike or riding in the rain?

2) any non oem accessories installed?

3) does the engine crank strongly at start?

 

This can help you in identifying the cause of your problem.

It seems your battery is fine from your answer.

 

1. First, I would go through all the fuses and relays to check if there is water ingress, common for F650. Dry everything with a towel and don't use an airgun.

2. Also have a good look at your accessories and perhaps there is a tap on wires that it shouldn't. You mentioned that you have removed it. Does the problem still persist?

3. I would also check your ignition switch wiring harness as it can fray which happens when we take off the panels for added installation and on reinstalling, the wires tend to be a little shorter. Thus, when we turn the steering, the wires are under pressure and can fray.

 

 

 

Clock draws a small 2 milliamp from the battery even when ignition is off. Funny, but if the current is interupted, I would think that it will reset itself to 0:00 instead of stay at the time that you last turned off the ignition.

So this has me confused.

If you have an accessory attached, say a Garmin GPS, to a wrong wire, the Can Bus (is your bike equipped with CanBus?) will not turn off and allow current to flow through the accessory even though the ignition is off. This will drain your battery and though you can start your bike, the voltage will drop and cause your clock to reset, your ABS to fail start up test and wreak havoc on the magnets in your starter coil.

 

Hope you can find a solution from this. Please let us know how you are doing.

The answer is to use a GS 9-11.

I have disabled the RDC feature in my oil cool 1200gsa 2011 at PML. PML Cannot replace battery in the sensor. The new sensor cost $200 a piece and pairing the sensor to the instrument cluster is $125. Total front and back sensor plus pairing is $525. PML say the new sensor battery only can last about 1.5-2 years.

I opt to disable it. Another cost for disable it. Have to buy a resistor at $9.90+ at PML and service to remove a module at the back of the seat and put the resistor at $141. Return the removed module to you.

Now no more warning light and no more RDC feature. cannot find the RDC in the cluster anymore.

Can revert back to normal if you want it back.

Just my opinion,

if your bike is registered with PML, then do it there as they will guarantee the parts and labour and keep records of your bike.

However, it will cost perhaps some 15 to 30% more than an outside mechanic.

 

Some mechanics outside will not possess special tools required for certain jobs such as a GS-911 or the later computer diagnostic tools to reset your bikes CPU.

 

Depending on the job, I buy parts from recognised BMW OEM suppliers, such as Motorworks or Motobins. Then get a mechanic to install with some supervision.

Sometimes I will go to PML for the work and then after have to eat instant noodles for the rest of the month or two.

 

Perfection Motors or M Technik will do the work. There are others but I am not familiar.

I use mtechnic at ubi. Not bad.

Combine motors at sin ming also work on BMW bikes.

Had an incident with 2 BMW riders so I want to caution fello riders to stay on the road.

 

Sunday nite ~10pm i was driving out of compass pt towards SLE. While coming to the traffic light for final right turn into SLE, I was on lane 2, signaled right, checked blind spot, check mirror & i realise 2 bikes a distance behind on lane 1. As i start to switch into lane 1, ~100m from the junction I check my mirror again & realised that 2 bike was closing in @Very high speed! I then decided to switch back to lane 2 to avoid any possible 'contact'. While part of my car was still on lane 1 that 2 bikes zooooom pass me, braked hard, right turn @the junction & disappeared into the nite SLE...

 

From the rear i figure it out to be 2 × BMW GS. Fello riders, while ur bike may be big, ur skills mayb good but any contact with a car @high speed may become ur last ride. Ride safe.
