Like this, my friend just bought RS Taichi GP-WRX glove that costs him MYR500 (if I not mistaken, roughly around S$200). He bought it from an online merchant (don't wanna name names here). His excitement after receiving the parcels quickly reduced to his dismay after eyeing the word "Made in China" at the glove's plastic pack/box and the gloves' insides portion. Er...RS-Taichi is a Japanese brand, no? The labels/description at the back of the pack/box seems are all written in Japanese. There are also no manuals/booklets that came along with the gloves. Quite simple of a packaging for a pricey item.

Is my friend being ripped-off?

And my question:

Is it true that all major motorsport apparels manufacture their items in the China Mainland? Well, I personally dont have any problem with it. My Komine Protect Air Mesh jacket which costs also around MYR500 got the "Made in China" wording in it eventhough the tags are all in Japanese. Well, tipu la if I said not felt anything 'bout it...just this nasty feeling (not to mention pals' impression for your 'that-costs-half-thousand-bucks' items) that the items are, gulp, actually a top grade imitation. Yes. I've said it. Imitation. Non-ori. Ciplak. But the built and quality of the jacket is so, so nice...

So bikers in Singapore, I really wanna ask you opinion abaout this. Really cannot tahan my eyes and ears after shelling out hundreds of MYRs of riding apparels, turns out that all the items are actually imitation/knock-offs.

Very confusing. Really hope that someone can shed a light on me. My friend now staring his WRX gloves with disgusts...

My Goretex RS Taichi pants and Komine riding jacket bought here in Singapore at a reputable shop are made in China. Chinese goods these days are of high quality. Only the imitation products you need to worry especially safety stuff like helmet, boots, tyres etc. Heck even my underpants are made in Vietnam, just a few years ago it was made in Israel and both of similar quality if I may add.

Most manufactured goods come from China, regardless of where the brand is based. American, Japanese, European brands - more likely than not it's made in China.

The computer that you're using now: turn it over and look at the label of where it's made.

To quote the Russian Cosmonaut in that movie, Armageddon:

Lev Andropov: [annoyed] "Components. American components, Russian Components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!"

.... or China.

Imitation manufacturer always tag their goods made in USA, Germany, Switzerland etc to impress buyer. If you bought a branded goods and it's made in China, you are safe! I just received my Alpinestars purchase online from US. It's made in Vietnam. So I am happy.

Well sir...your response made me sleep better at night. I guess I'll persuade my friend to sell the WRX glove for 1/2 price to me...since he hate "made in China" things so much!

Yupz... Surprisingly, quality of MIC products are getting better. If want to buy original made in Japan products, best place is Daiso (kidding). Hehehe~!

They are going to open an assembly plant in India by 1st half of 2011. Maybe for India domestic market only but then, who knows what will happen next.

Well from what I understand, they have strict regulations on the branded goods. Even if MIC, these are check for quality. It will be very expensive to manufacture stuff in their own country thus the reason to manufacture in 3rd world countries where labour and stuff are cheaper.

Anyway their factory 24 hrs one....Day time make your product and nite time make the 'Original' kinds hahha. Quality wise, cannot match the Originals. Example is my North Face bag, even though I bought it for USD10 in Vietnam, Still not the same make and quality of those sold here for ranges above SGD200++ (even that the tag says Made in Vietnam). The materials used are 2 totally different kind.

If the item is bought from a reputable place, nothing to worry about. It does help to check around to see if the price is around the same.

Well...pretty pathetic huh, my life?

Anyway, now I fully understand the situation lah. I also asked directly to the seller for this issue and he told me the same thing as you guys said. This time, no more worries if my upcoming Komine Titanite got "MIC" on the tags. To heck with the nay-sayers.

Thanks guys.

well... even the ever so popular iPhone today is MIC

what isn't these days?

it's not about the country of manufacture / assembly

but more about the final QC/QA checks

does that mean you have less faith if your Japanese branded vehicle was assembled in Thailand? ;)

Grounded... :/
