Info on the new 2008 TransAlp.... guess it will be expensive as it is spanish made again... sounds familiar....

Honda XL700V Transalp

2008 Honda XL700V Transalp

One of the interesting models that was shown is the XL700V Transalp, which will probably not come to the U.S., unfortunately. Although its styling is rather mundane, a 700cc V-twin motorcycle would make an interesting entry in the basically non-existent mid-range motorcycle market in the U.S. for discriminating buyers who haven't been taken in by the "more is better" approach to engine capacity, where anything under 1,000 cc's isn't even considered.

The XL700V Transalp is a dual-purpose sports model with a water-cooled, 4-stroke, 700cc V-twin engine. Engine displacement has been increased from 650cc to 700cc for this revised model, and the bike is now fitted with Programmed Fuel Injection system (PGM-FI), for improved midrange output combined with the environmental performance required to comply with Euro 3 regulations.

Other performance improvements include a new ABS system and a smaller 19-inch front tire with a wider 140mm rear tire for enhanced riding stability. New large headlight and distinctive new turn signal units replacing the built-in signals along with a newly designed chassis are included, and the bike has different styling around the front side fairing.

The XL700V Transalp will be manufactured at Montesa Honda S.A., a local manufacturing subsidiary established by Honda in Spain which began operations in 1986. The XL700V Transalp will be released successively in European markets.

For crashbar you can get either buy the sw motech one from Biketech21 or fabricate your own at 1st motor.

If you want to get the one from biketech21, maybe can drop by next week. Some of us might be going to down to check out some stuff. Anyone else intending to get anything from biketech21 also maybe can go together??

Sorry to cut the conversation but i am pretty keen in the Varadero 125 and was wondering hows the bike overall?

Handling, power (not asking for the world but just wanna know), maintenance and if there are any irritating problems on the bike.

Also, anyone selling a used piece?

A lot of pple are pretty keen in the vara (or at least they say). The best way to actually know about the bike is to join us for coffee and let the guys talk about the bike and see it for yourself or even sit on it.

Just some brief description about the bike,

if you want to compare it with a scooter, definitely the handling and power of the scooter will be much better when you first try it out.

Maintanence is about the same i guess. Parts are quite easy to get from Honda agents / distributors here. Normal oil change and periodic maintanence is not that expensive.

Vara is a more all rounder bike. Good for daily transport use, can go far, a full tank can hit at least 300km or more. On top of that, the fun part of riding vara is that it has a higher ground clearance and there is a bit of off road capability on the bike. Not much power in the vara but once you get used to it, no problem. In terms of the handling, you will get used to it for a while cos of the higher seat.

If you interested in touring, get a Vara. If you like to to get stuck in traffic everyday, get the scooter. :) It will be less hassle for you.

There were a few varas on sale at one point of time. Try to do a search on the garale sale and hopefully you'll find one still up for sale.

At the end of the day, it's u that rides the bike. Choose well :thumb:

Hi,

I would describe the bike as a very comfortable bike for not only short daily rides but for also long trips, based on the fact that some of them here have reached up to Thailand on it. If you often have a pillion with you, I'm sure they would find the bike as one of the more comfortable ones around. As for the power, yup, you shouldn't be expecting much.

Pick up is average, not one you would want to start a challenge with at traffic lights for sure, but you won't be exactly smelling the exhaust smoke from other vehicles. Top speed ranges from 110-130+km/h, depending on your bike and the weight(rider and luggage). Normal maintenance should be okay, just need to spend a bit more on the engine oil since you'll need about 1.5l each time. For stock parts, that's where your pocket could be burnt. Example, the stock handlebar will cost you $500+. But there are alternatives available, so nothing much to worry about there.

Maybe you can join us when we have a meetup or our weekly tuesday topup sessions, then you can check out the bike for yourself? As for anyone selling a used bike, I'm not very sure also. There were some selling in the garage sales recently but not sure if the bikes are already sold. :goodluck:

K anyway, since there seems to be some interest to get some items from Biketech, maybe we can just consolidate the order here. I went down before and talked to Shah, the owner, and he doesn't really need us to go down together and order the whole bulk at the same time for us to get a lower price. So we could just give him a rough estimate how many of us getting, then let him give us his best price?
