hi guys...have been riding this bike for 2 years...juz now noticed oil leaking out at the top n middle section of the block. anione encounter this before? can advise on the pricing?

so is this problem solved? loose screw or broken gasket? remember to check the oil level from time to time to prevent running the bike at low oil level.

- advisable to do servicing at yamaha service centre at hong leong, as they provide affordable package (engine oil, tyre pressure, lube/adjust chain, check brake / clutch, wash bike etc). But sometimes i change engine oil, oil filter at bike shop to save cost.

- whenever available, try to park in multi story parking to protect from heavy rain, hot sun etc.

...

Safe riding.

Recently my bike of 3yrs, start "coughing" during ilding... loss of power n fuel milage.

Sent for yamaha servicing($59) basic package.

upon dianogse, water has slip in the tank. due to rain n JB bike washing. haha

carburetor is dirty. Require servicing, additional labour costs.

my bike now feel like brand new, as all cable/fuel setting adjust back to factory.

Like yours, mine is a 3 year old stock bike already fitted with Yoshi exhaust when I first got it.

After getting into 2nd gear, engine 'cough' while trying to deliver power. Kicked another gear up and the machine responded back to usual.

Not too sure what happened or if this is normal but it occured occasionally. Other than this, no other problems for me to be concerned with.

The pricing for Hong Leong basic package looks good. Perhaps it's time for check up.

The problem seems similar to mine. I went to ask the guy from Yamaha during servicing on 5th June. The problem seems to be carburetor. They need to do carburetor servicing n may cost 100+$. But i may do it at As Phoon, as my regular mechanic will charge me much reasonable price for same servicing. Hope this issue will solve asap.

Did carburetor servicing today, now feel great.

*double thumbs up!

What about air filter? What should its "scheduled" maintenance be like?

I might as well get the filters clean/change since the carb is going to be serviced.

--> On a side note, anyone installed KNN cone type filters? Or if KNN also has the "original flat type" filters for FZ16?

He did mentioned about Air Filter, but he wanted to check if it's carburetor giving such problem. Ture enough, he cleaned the carburetor only, then now the engine sounds like "brum brum brum", like sports bike lor. Quite nice la.

Sorry, i do not quite familiar about KNN cone........,

I just changed to pirelli sports dragon tyre from unique motorsport, quite decent set of tyre. Able to corner without worries and I read online this is consider good for FZ16 riders.

Anyway you might want to check with them if the promo is still going on :)

wat the fuel milage for ur bike bro?¿

Air filter, service once a year can already. As K&N is washable, just wash it yourself, dry it under the sun and apply back air filter oil on it.

Cone = open pod filter. I'm using the K&N 'original flat type' filter which is for our bike.

Owwh.. There is a 'flat type' air filter designed for this bike?! That's nice.

I have been looking for airfilter options. Contemplated between a new original stock or an open pod KnN.

Thanks for sharing luminicious.

May i ask wad tyre brand and model u all using ? changing mine but not sure wad tyres recommended for fz16.

my 2cent advice,

keep the tyre size same or smaller as the stock.

i was using prielli sport dragon(110/80, 140/70), is too heavy for fz16.

Hi, just bought a 2nd hand FZ16 with full Yoshi exhaust system. I realised previous owner remove the airbox after I took off the seat. Asked the mechanic, he say it's ok because of the exhaust system. Is it true? And also my engine oil light will light up after riding even though after I do a engine oil change. And according to that mechanic, its because the previous change the carb for the exhaust and its natural for the light to lit up. I think this mechanic where I bought my bike is trying to bullshit me or lazy to do my bike Any advice?

I think, that's the hassle of owning modified bike. The best is to go for servicing at yamaha, just for the purpose of getting right information. Then once u know the exact problem, sure they will offer the solution but costly, then visit any trusted repair shop to solve the same problem.

there is no stock sized tyres. michelin, pirelli, heidenau, all r bigger size tyres. been using the pilot street, pretty satisfied with the performance.

Your mechanic he is not bullshit anything.

Lights on due to change of carb. Because original carb there's a throttle sensor.

After change aftermarket carb the sensor can't fit in and it sense notting that's why the check light is on.

Cheers.

Hi all, i recently just gotten myself a 2nd hand FZ16. I had my 2b license back in 2012 but have been putting off the purchase of a bike till now; so technically I am still a amateur rider and very new to this forum. I was wondering if any of you could share the common problems, know-hows, basic maintenance/checks of a F16 or maybe share some links where i can read up more?

My bike is still under the 'warranty' given by the bike shop, however i somehow feel that the mechanic is doing a sub standard job ( e.g., he left the chains too loose after changing the rear tyres, causing a ticking sound when i rode back from the workshop. Also the the previous rear tyre given during the taking over of the bike had a crack, something i didn't realise till i got back home) There might be other problems, just that I'm inexperience to actually detect it. Is there any recommended mechanics or workshop i could go to somewhere in the north area? (e.g., AMK ?) I really want a peace of mind when i am riding on the road, knowing that my bike is in satisfactory condition or have been checked properly by the mechanic.

Really appreciate any help given ! Cheers!

Hi guys, I'm thinking of installing kawahara racing block ( Big bore) for fz16. It said to change our 150cc to 200cc. Any reviews on this?

1.Starting bike in the morning can be hard at times especially during monsoon season.

Ans: If there is difficulty in starting the bike, use kick start if you have, if not, let your bike rest for a few seconds, turn on the ignition and try again, worse case scenario, use push start, engage 1st gear, maintain quarter to 1/3 clutch and push, once engine start, clutch in. (Push start applicable if your fz16 is gen 1, without kick start)

2. Idle rpm low after starting the bike and die off easily.

Ans: Adjust your idle screw located right below your fuel tank on the left side. Let it sit there to idle for a while to heat up the engine, once the engine has heated up, your idle rpm will increase, turn your idle screw again to lower the rpm.

3. Front brake calliper semi-seized state. (Happened to me)

Ans: If you do not mind tinkling your bike, you can remove the front brake and brake pads to check if the brake piston are dirty or worse case rusting. You can use a G-clamp to push the piston back but not before you get sprays specially made for brake piston calliper servicing. I used mineral EO on mine haha. If not, send it to a workshop to have them checked.

4. Brake pump rusted internally, causing the brakes to be applied constantly. (Happened to me)

Ans: I replaced the brake pump from Unique motor at $160, if you can find cheaper ones, just go ahead.

5. Rear brake lever rust (lever is towards the drum side, not your foot). Happened to another fz16 parking in the same area as where I live at.

Ans: Buy a bike cover to cover your bike as she left her fz16 in shine and rain which cause a lot of her bike metal parts to rust.

I went to this shop in Ubi, which is called KT & T accessory if I rmb correctly that did quite an impressive servicing to my bike after I gotten it. Change your tyres as well as it is one of the most crucial part of your bike that keeps you on the ground. Hope my above comments help.
