Hi TsuchimiRin,

Thanks for the reply, it was certainly helpful. I just want to check; is there common parts of the FZ16 that requires regular changing (eg. bike chains) and how long (or if we include the mileage factor) does it usually last before you are required to change again? Thank you!

1.Starting bike in the morning can be hard at times especially during monsoon season.

Ans: If there is difficulty in starting the bike, use kick start if you have, if not, let your bike rest for a few seconds, turn on the ignition and try again, worse case scenario, use push start, engage 1st gear, maintain quarter to 1/3 clutch and push, once engine start, clutch in. (Push start applicable if your fz16 is gen 1, without kick start)

2. Idle rpm low after starting the bike and die off easily.

Ans: Adjust your idle screw located right below your fuel tank on the left side. Let it sit there to idle for a while to heat up the engine, once the engine has heated up, your idle rpm will increase, turn your idle screw again to lower the rpm.

3. Front brake calliper semi-seized state. (Happened to me)

Ans: If you do not mind tinkling your bike, you can remove the front brake and brake pads to check if the brake piston are dirty or worse case rusting. You can use a G-clamp to push the piston back but not before you get sprays specially made for brake piston calliper servicing. I used mineral EO on mine haha. If not, send it to a workshop to have them checked.

4. Brake pump rusted internally, causing the brakes to be applied constantly. (Happened to me)

Ans: I replaced the brake pump from Unique motor at $160, if you can find cheaper ones, just go ahead.

5. Rear brake lever rust (lever is towards the drum side, not your foot). Happened to another fz16 parking in the same area as where I live at.

Ans: Buy a bike cover to cover your bike as she left her fz16 in shine and rain which cause a lot of her bike metal parts to rust.

I went to this shop in Ubi, which is called KT & T accessory if I rmb correctly that did quite an impressive servicing to my bike after I gotten it. Change your tyres as well as it is one of the most crucial part of your bike that keeps you on the ground. Hope my above comments help.

number 2, should use the choke lever on the left of the handle bar instead. idling screw can only be adjusted when engine is full warm up . if not, the idling will be messed up and you will need to wait till fully warm b4 u can adjust it. this is applicable to bikes of all sizes.

number 3, as and when, blow the brakes with compressed air. my mech used a wrench to knock the calliper and the semi seize is gone. if every now and then need to clean the callipers, its very troublesome too.

number 4, care to explain more details?

number 5, spray anti rust spray as part of the maintenance! :D

this is a very low maintenance bike. the normal maintenance is engine oil and filter, air filter. chain and tyres can last me 35k km before my first change. next will likely be brake pad for front and rear and change of brake fluid. others like front fork servicing, carb servicing, do it at your own timing.

Battery - a fairly good one should last for 1-2yrs. If ur fz16 with kickstart, when u need to kick start it, it time to change a new battery.

Spark plug - Iridium spark plug should last 30 000km, but they claim it last 50 000km.

Front brake pad - dpds on brands n quality, weekly inspection on the brake pad. You can see how much is left.

Rear brake shoe - Use till you have tighten/adjust the nut at halfway point. then is time to change new.

or

it makes screeching or squealing noises when you brake, then that’s a clear indication you have to replace brake shoes.

Tyres - there are tread wear indicators or bars. These indicators are bridges that run perpendicular to the tread and are formed between the treads which sit at least 1.6mm above the bottom of the grooves.

Or

Uneven tire wear.

not so common thing i have change on my bike.

35 000km, changed my starter motor relay

(failed to electric start, battery still good)

40 000km, changed speed sensor.

(fail to display speed)

'Thanks for the tips guys! Now I have a better idea. But where do you get those anti rust spray? Lastly, before my so call 'warranty' at the bike shop ends, is there anything you guys would do to make full use of this warranty period? (eg, change parts etc)

anti rust spray like WD40 u can get at any DIY store. using oil or grease oso can. no special oil that is best. warranty, not that i know of. if the bike got nothing, they will not do anything for u unless its major issue.

washing fz16 u need to be careful of fuel cap... is not water proof/splash proof. water will slip in from the key hole.

you might nt feel any impact at first.. little by little it can build a bukit...

Wax/Oil your chain after normal bike wash..

Hi guys, just wanna know what wear and tear parts you all change and service after owning the bike for 2-3 years? And roughly how much would it cost to do such a servicing?

It really depends on how you maintain and service your bike.

I've owned the bike for 2 years already, the only 'major' thing i did was replacing the clutch plates at 47000km and steering cone at 35000km.

Normally a 'full servicing' consists of fully synthetic EO, oil filter and spark plug costs around $30. Of course, different EOs and spark plugs may impact the price.

Hi Guys,

Newbie here, got a quick question. I was on a overseas deployment and didn't start the bike for 3 weeks. Ever since i came back I can't start the bike. My uncle told me a trick to start off with gear 1. According him after riding for a while the battery should be recharge and every thing should fine. Unfortunately been riding for 2 days but still no luck with the battery.

So my question is can the battery be recharge or I have change a brand new one? and what are the cost like for charging and changing.

Many thanks in advance.

Ken

Charging a battery would cost around $10. Purchasing a battery will cost $45.

I'd go for purchasing a new one.

how old is the battery? if about 1 year, can consider changing a new battery rather than recharge.

Hi, I was thinking of changing the handlebar and some accessories ( clutch/brake lever, side mirrors and throttle grip). Would Wing yap be a wise choice ? I'm thinking of changing to a renthal bar, but the guys at wing Yap were saying that they are only left with this brand known as ' Wealth '. It looks the same as Renthal but is it legit?
