Hi guys,

first and foremost I'm new in this forum and just recently came over to Singapore from Australia.

I got a question that's been bothering me quiet a lot,

Is it save to park outside behind the HDB buiding I stayed at (the parking area)?

I just put a down payment for a Ducati 848 just wanna make sure it is save or is there

anyway I can do to keep it saver at least :)

cause back in Sydney I parked my bike inside a private garage so I'm a bit worried

your input will be most welcome :D

regards.

to be honest, no where is safer than a locked private garage. since you are staying at hdb here, you probably want cover your bike with a bike cover and lock the cover to your bike. try not to leave the bike at the same spot not riding for prolong period of time, certain people will notice and start to wonder if the owner is around. that's when things might 'disappear' or get vandalised.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

hi there well in singapore you have quite a number of mischievous punks.. attracted to all things shiny. haha.

Anyways such a question is a worry to all riders. and the best way to protect the integrity of your Ducati would be to place a bike cover over it and have a small lock to lock it at the holes located at the bottom of the cover. :)

Not a fool proof method but it helps make the punk think about the steps he will need to take if he wants to carry out some mischievous deeds.

Open space carpark is more safer than multi storey carpark IMO. But when rain comes no shelter for the bike. Well there's always pros and cons. Anyway install alarm and bike cover it. And make friends with ur neighbours so they can always make a look out for yr bike!

i think i'm in love with a Bol'dor.

Is this parking area a multi-floor parking space, or an open-space one?

The open-space parking lots benefit from the fact that all the houses in the apartment blocks directly face the parking lots. This is true for apartments situated in older neighbourhoods. Newer ones are built with at least a multi-floor covered parking space.

It is true that Singapore aims for a no-crime target, but as with what dragonforce mentioned, low crime means no crime.

I have a friend that owns a Duke as well. And his parking lot (the multi-floor type) has a number of exotic sport bikes too. And yet another sport bike friend of mine tells me that he ever has greeted the owners of those bikes before - a large circle of acquaintance bikers is good in that everybody keeps a lookout for each other's bikes.

A bike canvas should do a best effort job to deter any would-be thieves, and those who can't keep their hands to their own bikes. If you have more, go for an alarm add-on just like some has suggested. The police in our country knows about bike thefts and does occasional night patrolling around parking lots.

Hope you enjoy your stay here. The biking community would like to hear more from you if you are interested in rides up north and such ;)

Thanks again guys for the tips, nothing much you can do other then buying a cover and alarm system.

about the rain since it's outdoor, lets just hope the canvas cover will do the trick :p

I tried my best with the neighbours by always smiling and saying "good morning" if I happen to pass by them in the morning :)

@ redbeacon

it's an open space area parking and my neighbourhood are quiet crowded so I guess that's a plus??

to tell you honestly from what I see, Singapore is actually pretty save and clean, what surprise me is that that are no beggars on the streets o_O

I would love to do group rides, will inform the forum once I get my hands on the bike. :)

Save or safe? I'm assuming it's the latter.

If you're looking at safety and convenience, park in the HDB carpark, cover the bike and install an alarm for maximum assurance.

If you're just looking primarily at safety and don't ride your bike often and cost is not an issue, store your bike in Lock + Store. There are 2 locations. One in Tanjong Pagar and another in Chai Chee.
