Simple script is one thing. Wooden acting and cliched characters are worse. The ABC leading man's character is so cliched that I cringed just to see his wooden acting and one dimensional 'upright' persona.

Well, it tickles me every time I hear the character Phor speaks. There has to be English subtitles each time he speaks, even though he is speaking English! Guess his accent makes his English hard to fathom.

 

CSI Miami is one of my favourite TV show. Horatio is kinda cool to me with his relaxed way of speaking and his assured composure. I have the whole season one episodes of Lie To Me. Great storyline and intriguing ways of deciphering body language by the lead character. Criminal Minds & The Mentalist are also TV shows that are just shiok to watch...

Currently, there is a 18 part mini series on National Geographic called "EVERY SINGAPOREAN SON". It follows the lives of 14 young men from different backgrounds, coming together for the rite of passage that every Singaporean son must experience – Basic Military Training.

Personally, I feel that's an outstanding production, and Mediacorpse is not part of this, and best of all, no funding from collection of the Radio & TV license.

But on a whole, MediaC0ck are better off doing comedy because of their brainless nature. And slapstick only pls. They can't do intelligent Brit styled comedy because of the tightassed censorship laws here.

 

'Serious' dramas here look bad because of the lousy script and wooden acting. Maybe if they didn't try to stereotype their leading actors n protaganist as whitewashed perfect politically correct goons with exemplary moral values, then they'll be more realistic instead of looking like a Govt campaign.

Basically the Noose is controlled media, sensitive issues are totally avoided, Like ERP, COE, fines etc. But how cum never talk about diplomat crashing 3 pedestrians, huge FTs influx affecting high unemployment among Singaporeans? These seems to be sidetracked yeah?

 

What is really funny is those political comic strips found at the back of newspapers 20 years ago, which now has been banned. Remember comic drawings of Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, i believe during the cold war, how the world held in fear of it. But now Cold War issue is over, no more political cartoons? After 40years is there nothing to write about? 40years of black-out media? Is this gona continue indefinitely?

 

Which is no wonder TR, online citizen, wikileaks all these are so popular, people evolved, fed the same formula over and over again, also sian. Real solid material then can capture the audience. Our local media is really lame, no progress, too pragmatic stifle creativity. Even China media industry will definitely catch up and overtake Sg for sure, Sg will always be average player in this competitive industry. Always.

chio bu at 1:42 the whole army series like too ah gua already.. to much sugar coating to make it look presentable. last time when the media came to film my platoon in bmt (1999), the videos were more strict and can never see any of us smiling, all look like either damned garang or damned pissed off (with NS) LOL
