No prob. Just sharing experiences, that's all.

After checking ard etc, I finally decided to play by the book, but relocated the IU from being a parrot on my left mirror to a customised holder on the handlebar mount. I'd say it came with a price, but I guess it is worth it since the bike now looks more compact without any alien component sticking out like a sore thumb.

Better to err on the side of caution rather than to risk failing any inspection and picking up a fine as a result. In any case, I had received a LTA letter the other day telling me that while passing through ERP gantry, it had been detected that either my IU or my cashcard was faulty, and that I was to bring my bike for IU inspection. Moral of the story, better dun play play with these items which are tagged to your vehicle and name, or the law might eventually catch up with you.

BTW, I was driving last evening and saw this joker on a scooter passing through a ERP gantry; one hand was handling the vehicle while the other was holding out, as in almost like a Nazi salute, his IU which connected via wire to his scooter. I'd say CHAMPION! What a silly sight.

thanks fatboypin for the info, therefore there is no way we can detach the IU. *Sigh*

Even with this mod, I have no problem claiming warranty for my IU. Now I have the slim IU, and also with similar mod

Hi Demon, may I know whether the battery lasts long if constantly connected or do you need to disconnect soon after use?

If it is really possible/legal to detach a bike's IU for use, what can and will prevent motorists from disconnecting/removing their car's IU but bring along a bike's each time they pass under a gantry?

Update:

I have checked around. Looks like there is this practice of having detachable IUs in the sense that they are mounted on quick release holders, and the wire connection is via a waterproofed connecter. Therefore, if the rider knows he is not passing through any ERP or carpark gantry, he can choose to detach the IU, leaving a loose wire exposed, thats all. Original bike profile is maintained.

BUT... I am not sure how this will fare at any LTA inspection...

Pls do your own homework... For info, pls.

Never a problem.

I don't even bring my IU for inspection.

Great! Thanks for the confirmation.

Hi All,

I'm looking for an IU bracket that attaches to a standard camera/tripod mount, I purchased a handlebar clamp for a video camera and I want to use it for my IU so I can quickly remove it.

Any ideas where I can get one?

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!

You may have to customise one at those metalworks places.

I am pretty bad with wiring, I tried it once and failed badly hah. Ended up bringing to the mechanic, I believe they should be quite familiar with the procedures if you intend to do a plug-and-play

Just curious, those connectors for detachable IUs... are they waterproof? First case is when the IU is detached, the open end of the connector is exposed. Second case is when the IU is attached, are both ends of the connector insulated from the rain?

Thanks.
