No worries.... we r all newbies to the new runner.

I am doing the normal "safe" run in.... riding Max 80km/h...

my friend is doing the "Hard running in"....

From the 1st day, he got the bike, he Whack to the max....

Traffic Turns green, He whack 7000Rpm and above.

Hard Running in = making the piston less tight and when ur piston expands(when ur bike is hot), ur pistons will not jam so easily, according to his theory.

Hi, me just a newbie to the new Gilera Runner 200. Sold my prev bike and bought it 1 week ago. Few questions to ask the fellow Bros here.

1) For warm up, the temperature got to wait for how many bars? 2 or 3 bars?

2) For soft run-in, how many km u need to run-in? Cannot exceed how much RPM?

saw a 06 runner riding at my opposite direction in Tampines.

the bike is done up with checker sticker on the front...

and a leo vince pipe at the back...

Look nice! :thumb:

Dunno whether does it belong to any riders here?

for Qns (1) normally warming up is about 3 to 5 mins... roughly the time needed to finish a stick of ciggy

(2) for the 1st 1,000km, do not exceed 80% of top speed... i would think it best not to exceeed 80km/hr. after that u can gradually speed up. i do not know abt hard run-in but i rather put my faith in the old conventional way. that is no hard ramming at all times during run-in period

Hey guys..I have a question. Have you guys ever exceeded 80km/h during run-in? I've gone 84-86km/h on a few occasions (not on purpose) but I usually stick to 70-80km/h on average. I also throttled more than what I should while moving off a few times..again this is not on purpose. 90 percent of the time I'll move off slowly and gradually.

Now I'm feeling a little paranoid..scared my engine spoil already or what..

no worries.... as long u dun whack happily... it is okie...

I also exceed sometimes to 96km/h....

The thing abt the "safe" running in is..... Dun Hold ur throttle and maintain the same speed for long distance....

Advise to play with the throttle.... open and close a bit... open close a bit... at cruising speed....

Why need to open and close ? How does this help the engine? Or just to keep the rider busy and not to fall asleep?

i guess its because for auto bikes its abit difficult to maintain a speed?? and alot easier to over throttle? correct me if i'm wrg.. haha.. i new rider oso la.. so dont laugh at me ya... haha..

from what i know, each time u close & re-open the throttle, u r wearing ur clutch pad little by little

base on what some old runners told me, for example if u wanna keep at a riding speed of 80km/hr, they advised me to rev up to 100km/hr den slow down to 80km/hr... something lidat

not sure if it really helps though

Seem that there are two type of 06 runner on the roads nowaday.

Both are also called VXR200 runner, I can spot the difference because of the fuel location and the height of the middle frame.

Any major differences between the two ?

That is the 05 one....

why FBA?

Becos they registered late loh.... No more FZ... so take FBA loh

Thanks for the update, I download the picture from Gilera website as it introduce this as the Runner VXR2000 model. Though it is the new model

I also tested out the "open-close" technique you recommend, it is very jerky, may not be a good for the bike, prefer the gradual ramp up or ramp down.

there is too many ways of running in... in the end, u may wonder, Is there a need to run in?... hahaha...

As long as u r comforty in ur way, the running in process will definity go through ur mental barrier.

Hi Guys,

For running in of the runner you need not be so prudent lah cause the bike will wear and tear in due time.Just enjoy your running in as for 200cc regardless of what model you can go up to 80 km/h (give and take lah ) if you need to accelerate then just do so up to 90km/h if not you be roadhogging but try to stick to 60km/h for the first 500km.As the bike is new the fork and the rear suspensions will be a bit bumpy as it is still seasoning out the springs. If you are cruising at 50-60km/h you will get some electric buzzing below your legboard but that will dissapear when you are cruising at 70-80km/h on 5000-6000rpm.The next thing is to check your bike before you leave home as the vibrating nature of the runner sometimes will make your screw loose as when the bike came to sg shores it is in parts. The people at piaggio is the ones who assembled it and distribute it other shops.I got a screw that came off because it was not tightened from one of the block(imagine that on the 2nd day the bike was out).Servicing is always recommended at 1000km,2000km and 3000km.The best is to use castrol as recommended by the sticker under your seat LOL:thumb: but still up to individual. Also check the engine dipstick as guided in the italian manual which i know nuts but still understand by the pics LOL.As for coolant you can always wait for the 3rd servicing cause as long your temp bar do not reach 5 and above it is still ok considering our climate. And lastly when you are giving your beloved bike a shower don't forget to open those screw to see what lies underneath.....:faint: Just my 2 cents worth of opinion

Absolutely sound advice and good summary of what to look out.

Was told the servicing should 1000, 3000 and 5000km and change the belt before the warranty period.
