Guys, what's your current practice in changing the air filter:

10k?

15k?

** I know Sensible's can last 28k... hehe. Change liao boh?

I was thinking of 10k, which means roughly 5-6 months of travel for me.

Can't imagine 5 mths change 1 air filter when I normally clean my previous X9's every month.

i got mine change at 4k to KNN(waste of money)

then i wash it around 15k.

but the original one cannot wash.

anyway original filter cost between 35-45 cannot really remember the price.

KNN is around 120

Mine filter is already at 24K ++ and still going, maybe hit 30K or if fuel consumption drop then check.

My belt is supposed to change at 24K by manual instruction, so far hanging on. Will be going towards 40K..

do you open up assembly cover to check belt condition before deciding to ride on or just wait for something to go wrong there?

will a badly worn belt cause damage to the variators?

Going by experience i should think better to open and check every 10K or so and clean the filter and covers and area around the belt casing, also replace final drive oil. You can also measure the belt width (see Tech Thread) to see if the belt within tolerances and replace if necessary.

REASONS :

1.If belt bursts the FLAYING bits can damage the casing and cover and entangle with the variator and spring causing more damage. Most likely will not Jam but engine will rev freely without load and maybe OVER REV causing valve damage etc.

2. If belt bursts whilst you are going fast overtaking etc and on outer lane you will have no means to DRIVE out of harms way to roadside and following traffic slam into your rear. This ever happen to me on PIE heading towards Changi and just as i was passing a bus after the Stevens Road exit - i had to wave to the bus driver frantically to slow down so that i could pull over to the left infront of him and come to a safe stop. Lucky for me the driver saw and understood my plight. SCARRY OK !!

Any update from ur SW?

You are clocking more than 50000Km for ur belt

I'll check again when I reached 120,000km

Dig out from past post. 2_Wheeler has pull off 50000km without changing. He did put up the picture of belt on 2007 silverwing cafe (already locked).. Some old timers might still recall it. So just left whether u choose to believe or not.

:btw: don't know how is he doing now..:cheeky:

Will be checking the belt of course after another 2 weeks. Cos I still quite confident my belt have the tolerance.

Have stuck with a "dead bike" in the middle of KJE with X9 before. Don't want the same thing to happen to me again..
