How to restore rainbow effect at the pipes...

Muffler can be polished, resprayed etc.....what about restoring the rainbow effect at the muffler(for pipes that have got rainbow colors initially lah)? I can't find a better way to describe it....Anybody can share advices?

Must be talking about the heat effect, like blue flame exhaust.

When metals get heated up, they change colour.

This is just an example, of a GTR exhaust...see the mid section and end can, i called that the rainbow effect.....heh heh...is there a word for that actually? I have got an after market pipe that is like that but the color is fading, can it be restore?

this is the result of overheaing...

i believe this is permenent....in another words..the pipes metellurgy properties have changed resulting in this colour...

what materials are yours made of??

 

Titanium needs constant high temps to maintain the colour..

but if in the first place curing of the metal is not done properly the exhaust would not have reach this effect nor kept this effect..

 

would be good if you can post photos of your own.. so that we can see what are the causes of it..

 

normally when endcan sleeve comes with this effect, it'll not fade..

yes ezzy, i mean i want to restore the bluish tint, blue flame, rainbow.....whatever it called. It's not disappearing lah, just that the colours not as vivid as it was initially,therefore am looking for some solutions/ advice here.

ok...the bluish tint can be obtain in steel..2 mthod..

1. You can blue steel by heat tinting(heat it to 280-300 C)

2 By use of chemicals(125 gm sodium thiosulphate/45 gm lead acetate/1 lit water,82 C temp.,5 minutes). Lead acetate is poison,avoid any contact with solution!

 

so you see this is a rather complex ...

most probably for mass production they use method 2..

heat the metal by using the heat gun and after getting blue just layer it with vernish.

IIRC that is irreversible.
